I want to hear from anyone on Mylot whoe have eaten ever eaten an Abalone. I saw the guy on the tv show Dirty Jobs eating one and he said it was delicious, and I have wanted one ever since. I love all seafood. I have never eaten anyone from the ocean that I didn't like.....well except for some raw seaweed, but I was young and curious....it wasn't really food. Anyway if you have eaten an Abalone before please tell me about it, what does it taste like? Compare the texture and flavor to some other type of seafood or meat or something. Thanks in advace for any infor anyone can give me. I can't find it in the grocery stores here, or i would just buy it and eat it myself.

Love abalone....but it has a flavour and texture all of it's own. Haven't had it for years, but do remember that it has to be carefully prepared, like pounding for tenderizing, or it can be quite chewy. It does not taste fishy, and is a really (almost white) meat. If you do find it, consult a good cook pound on the tenderizing process, and cooking, because if I remember right it is a short, hot cooking procedure, too!

Hi, Nykkee. I have never tried this before. I am not a seafood lover like that. I could not eat anything that looked like this. I am so sorry. This is not my type of dish that I normally would eat or try.

I have, too. It's interesting. Firm and chewy, and kind of sweet. I would try it again, but it wasn't one I persued afterwards.
