So HOW am I not quality?

After all of the responses, all the attempts of discussions, and all the best responses, I want an answer to this. How am I not producing quality? DEFINE quality. Now. I welcome anyone as always to just look at the discussions, responses and best responses. If you don't think I'm a quality contributer, SHOW ME someone who is (yes links to discussions are welcome). I mean, we can have strawman arguments, false statements, shaming discussions and somehow those are quality... but the items I've discussed and the responses I've given somehow aren't quality? Could someone explain this?

From your post there it looks like you are quality. People judge you on mylot alot, if they dont like what your typing they will negative you and say that your rubbish. Its when i said to people i personally believe in jesus but theres alot of questions to be answered my ratings drop so low i didnt even feel like logging on. Ignore them and move on with it and if people are continuing to give you negative jsut report them for abusing it. Thats the best way.

Its hard to report em if its anonymous, but even that is only part of the problem. I've been having other responses of mine deleted, even though they contribute and don't violate the rules.

i do not know why are you asking this? it is not at all the case that you are not quality mylotter. let me guess something. is it for your star rating is 6? or anyone has told you so. i believe there is some reason. i think you contribute with quality and rated +ve.

Its due to having recent responses (that did contribute to the discussion) removed. I noticed it multiple times last night and a few times in recent sessions. Plus I did see a nice slap in the face with some members praising the star system as an accurate item. -_- This was just a rant that came up, and there are times I do rant(get something of my chest). At least you know both reasons for this discussion. Sorry about not being as clear in the opening post (also an indicator this was more of a rant).

Someone actually praised the star rating system and said it's accurate? Huh??? Now I have to add quickly that I don't mean this as any offense to those who have a 10 or whatever rating, but there are too many very good posters who have ratings that are ridiculously and undeservedly low then there are those who have the high numbers that are often quite disrespectful and downright rude! Now, who is the person who said you don't post quality discussions?Or responses for that matter. Like I've said before...some of them fly above my head....but I never said I'm smart enough to understand everything in this world. Anyways, I know it's better than some of the mundane ones being posted here. You know what? Don't bother about the BRs and all the rest of it....just enjoy yourself and ignore the rest who don't think like you.

I'm calling to question the star system (once again) and also with that, a sudden and quite noticable rate of responses being removed. The latter is what really triggered this rant, but my comments on the star system still stand. I've got the proof and SV you are familiar with it. I'll probably take another breather from the lot, but I just felt a rant come up, hence the discussion.

That's something I'll never understand...the star system that is. I feel it tends to be more about who's here often than about the quality of the posts. Fortunately, I haven't been at the recieving end...but frankly if it was only the star system...I wouldn't really care...but if my responses and discussions were being deleted with no reason being given (it happened to another friend of mine and she is in effect banned and we have no clue why!)...I'd be mad too. I don't mind as long as the reason for the deletion is given (a valid one please). But some I can't find any reason for them being deleted(none of mine...but I've seen some).

Where is this discussion coming from? Who said you were not qualtiy? You have a unique style but it is still quality, I think. I do not answer a lot of your discussions, but I feel that they fill a niche. I would like to hear more of this.

Some of my responses to responses should help point it out. But it was due to seeing some of my responses removed in recent mylotting sessions (though they broke no rules). That and general contempt for the "not broken" star rating. I mean, "quality"? The responses and efforts I give don't even match the star I have. My irritation increased after the whole deletion crusade I witnessed last night on my responses.

Okay Programmer did you jump into my brain last night and help me figure out what it is I was trying to say so I could post this discussion today. No kidding these are my thoughts for the past two days and I thought last night I must write a discussion about this but wasn't sure how to say it. Okay this discussion isn't my exact thoughts but still so darn close. I am not so much concerned about my responses as I am about the discussions I have started. I came to the conclusion the past few days that I am not posting quality discussions and this is why people are commenting. I guess it could be they are not interested in my topic as well. So I was thinking it over just how to word my discussion. Now after reading yours I probably won't as I hope to be inspired by what readers will be saying to you. After reading this discussion and seeing how well written it is I have a hard time thinking you are not a myLotter of quality. This post is so well written I can't imagine that your previous posts are not of the same calibur.

No I did not jump into your brain Coffee *ditches the Romulan Mind Probe* This was actually a semi-rant on my part, but I'm happy that it still reflects some quality too. I'm still contemplating the whole situation too, and a few responses here really got me thinking on this again (and some of it in a different way). Coffee, you should go ahead with your discussion. There maybe something else that comes to mind and you may get significant input on it too. If not, that is your choice. I still thought it'd be something to consider even with the discussion. You could word it different or perhaps ask some focused questions. I'm just thinking a bit, but these did come to mind and I wanted to share them with you.

I've seen the name theprogramer on many of the discussions I've looked at and I believe you ARE one of the best quality writers on mylot! But that's really the problem isn't it? Mylot doesn't really promote quality, it promotes quantity. Discussions on religion, philosophy, politics, science and other important issues tend to take a backseat to "what's your favorite color" or "did you see what they said on SNL last week". You know you ARE a good writer and your opinions count and are appreciated. Don't let the opinions of idiots alter your efforts. Those of us that aren't just here to make a penny per post for one liners on nonsense topics appreciate people that think and express themselves well. :)

I know exactly how you feel gamer (and sorry for the original typo, I thought your name was theprogramer lol). I've gotten to the point where I only comment on news stories or posts I feel are worthy of discussion. I can't say I've always agreed with your posts (although most times I do) but I CAN and will say I have always respected your point of view and think you have well thought out QUALITY posts! If anyone has problems with you, that's exactly what it is, THEIR problem! Whether or not you continue on mylot or how is up to you but my advice is don't let other people's perceptions of you change the core of who you are. Your opinions count and the future belongs to you and people like you.

Thanks for the vote of confidence Firehorse. I'm probably going to take another step back and just relax a bit. I'll still come up with the responses and when I can, the discussions. But, with a rigged star system and an even more triggerhappy deletion session going on... I do have reason for disagreement and less interaction. I'm not gone just yet, but similar to several other members, its less encouraging to participate for certain reasons.

Greeting Progamer, Quality? In this regard, you are above reproach! What you have to recognize is that you are: Impatient, Blatantly honest Forthright Most often correct, and thusly ... a target! I suppose that you are alluding to the little 'piglet's' references to quality posts? Has something specific happened since the little piglet's introduction? If so, please discretely explain, or pm me with the desire to do so, outside the realm of prying eyes. I acknowledge that having the respect of those who make a point to gauge your contributions as positive may not be sufficient. I also acknowledge that there is value to the contribution. I'm not discounting your concerns. In fact, I believe them to be quite valid. Though, I would appreciate understanding your most recent alarm.

The other responses to responses highlight it. Its a combination of the star rating (and my posting/participation); also a recent string of responses being deleted, even though they were on topic and not offensive.

I can't imagine how anyone could say that you aren't producing quality here. In fact, you produce more quality posts than most of the people I can think of here, myself included. You're intelligent, you give good arguments for your positions on things, you pose important questions, and your discussions always seem to have depth to them. So why would anyone say you aren't quality?

I think I missed a lot of this stuff because I haven't been on much lately. All the stuff with Dusty has kind of had my attention elsewhere. I've always thought the star ratings going down was usually just a sign you offended people, and I can easily see you offending people just because you tell it like it is. (A good thing, in my opinion.) So I figured that was the problem with your rating. If it's actually supposed to measure quality, then something is seriously screwed up, because I honestly think you are about as quality as it gets. I'm glad you're cheering up some anyway!

Its not being said, but some of it has been implied. I mean the star rating was confirmed "not broken" right? -_- The star rating does indeed reflect a person's quality and participation...that's what was said in recent weeks. And at the same time, my star rating hasn't changed, and worse than that responses were being removed (though they were on topic). Like I've said, it can be frustrating. However, I'm cheering up a bit. Plus I'm going to focus on having a bit more fun. An idea just popped into my head Lecan. Talk to you later.

Pro, this is going to be rather short, sweet and to the point - for me anyway - YOU know your posts are quality, those who are your friends here as well as though who are not know they're quality and even whoever it is who is keeping your rating low and is responsible for having your posts deleted know they're quality, which is precisely why they're giving you such grief. I know as well as anyone that it's easier said than done to just ignore it and not let it bother you but that's about the only thing I can tell you to do because I sure don't want you to leave and we both know you won't get an answer from myLot as to why your posts have been getting deleted - or if you did I'd be shocked. Hang in the, my friend! Annie

hi programmer ! I think your a quality contributor, but your asking to define quality which is a different thing altogether.given the fact that one persons idea of quality is different depending on the context, time, place, social convention and social interaction. It sounds like your more than a little vexed ! whoever said your not a quality contributer, then they need a slap!! put another way some people like 'Hanson' and I could (if pushed) shoot them for that, because I do not consider 'hanson' to be quality.ignore the comments and keep posting :)

Heh! I liked the example! For my rant, Redyellow answered the whole thing to my satisfaction. It really does make me think. "Quality" isn't worth much on lot, but I do see your point. Perhaps quality is supposed to entail quantity like a couple of others suggested. But in that case... my claims still stand (5500+ responses as of this response, several discussions, hundreds of BRs). I've got both quality and quantity down, but you could be on to something Jimbo.

Gamer,The posts you put up are quality in my book.I think you've got a little rat that follows you around like a duckling follows it's mom and then gives a negative rating to what you write. Who did you P*ss off!?Besides, does any of those star ratings really matter? With the way the system is skewed and the little cliques that reside here on Mylot don't let one or two idiots effect your mood or confidence. You are unique...Keep on doin' what you're doin'

I've had those little followers ever since post 100 or so. Part of my rant here was a reaction to members praising the star farce, I meant system, people saying it works and its accurate. Its nonsense in my view. I serve as my own proof in this. Oh I'll still be here, but at least there is some clue to friends and other members as to why I'm not here as much. That may change though.

I am not sure why or where you are getting this. I have never thought that your discussions weren't of good quality. If you are talking about your star rating then I just have to say that this is one area that I completely disagree with Crash. There is obviously a flaw in the rating system where abusers can affect another users ratings.

Why I'm getting it... The star system, An out of place deletion of several of my responses in recent times. People still going around saying the system is accurate (its far from it) Where I'm getting it... Eh... I think I covered that, so why rehash :) Anyways, I have to say thanks for that input. I don't truly know where the flaw is in terms of the stars, but its certainly there. And it does make a poor reflection of the quality of some members.

I think as with most sites some people here like to play favorites to their friends or to people who come into their discussions and bury their heads so far up the posters butts in agreement to the opinion of the poster that they can tell what the OP had for lunch before it has passed their esophagus. I give my BR in a discussion based on the quality of the comment. And by quality I mean, if the commenter states their opinion they also posts a story or a fact or their own personal belief system backing up why they have the opinion they do then I call that quality. Even if I don't particularly agree with the message the commenter is sending if their comment is well thought out and dignified it is possible they could find themselves getting a BR out of me. I believe you have earned yourself one or two from me. I think that is because I just now corrected my egregious oversight of not including someone of your intellect to my sparse list of friends I follow around. I hope to see much much more of you and your discussions in the future :)

*courtesy* That lifted me up a bit Cyni. I too have given a few BRs to people I didn't exactly agree with, but they either made a great effort in the discussion, or did something to make me think/reconsider, or some other very remarkable item. My continued mylotting may waver a bit, but I don't think I'll completely withdraw. There are plenty of people I like here and others; and I'm glad to help out or have fun with with both groups of people.

*blush* You're playing with heart Ambie. =3 Like I said for other response Ambie, it wasn't who, it was more of a what -_-. I've been seeing recent responses of mine disappearing even though they contribute to the discussion. This discussion occured just as a rant in response to that. Plus my complaints at the non-broken star rating are in there too (remember its quality Mylot says it wants in the FAQs and the stars reflect it, but looking at my responses compared to rating... -_-)

Are you talking quality as in having many responses to the discussion? If so, I find that many people like to talk about what they like and dislike and if you look at mine that how many replies, they are about food.. How you prefer a certain food or a recipe for this or that..Yeah, you can start a discussion on computers or the news or even something controversial like religion or politics and get many responses, but not everyone is interested in that subject or even knows that much about it.. But everyone eats, and so I may not get record breaking responses, but I don't do too bad.. Here are some examples I have: On spaghetti with 45 responses http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/1360629.aspx on cream of wheat or oatmeal with 21 responses http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/1409864.aspx my newest one on grilled cheese with 6 responses and not even a day old yet http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/1424461.aspx I even started one on unique places to eat http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/1424655.aspx I think the idea for a good discussion is something people like to talk about or even feel they know about and food is a good subject because there is not right or wrong answer, which is why I struggle with BR on these, there is no BR on them because it is option, not fact..:)

Actually I was talking about the quality in terms of what the discussions and responses are. I was talking about my response quality and less than that discussion quality. My response have a good amount of "quality" (but again, that's still left to interpretation), however I still point to a low star, and even more recently, vanishing/deleted responses. Redyellow's response what more along the lines of what I was asking, and other responders touched upon issues too. Your response brings up a good point too. Quality might be reflected in response amounts to discussions (but I've seen more of an inverse, the serious receiving less, the shorter and easier discussions receiving more).

From my point of view, I have read your posts and almost all are quality. You have responded to my discussions and have seen them to be quality. Now the person who is saying that you are not quality should seek medical help. There are this rating in every interests, how do you find them? Do you believe when they say that you are number 450 out of 14760? Is that what quality means? I am not sure about that. The only thing I know is that you always do quality stuff. All the best.

I have never read anything less than a quality discussion or response from you, so I don't know where this comes from. I know a lot of people will rate - if you say things they disagree with. I noticed it a while back. I had a 4 in my star once, and I think it was because I offended some people by speaking my mind. I don't set out to be rude, but I give my honest opinion when asked. I don't pay any attention to star ratings. To me, all it means is that you are honest and give your opinion and tell things as you see them rather than telling people what they want to hear. I prefer that over a person who is just going to be fake nice or agreeable. You get a + from me every time!

Actually Silly I do remember that and I thought "What happened?" I did see you rise dramatically though and now you have your 10 star. I like how you word it too. In the other star rating discussions, things like that have been said too. But now, I'm dealing with random and frequent response removal. The other part of my discussion/rant stemmed from some others still claiming the star-scam isn't broken and that it does reflect quality & participation. There are times the frustration can get to me, but its never too bad. I still want to continue too.
