I remember as I child I used to love them, the scarier the better.
But one time when I was 22 I went down the magic carpet ride, by this time fear of flying down that big ride had already set in and I clung tightly to the carpet. There was just me, the carpet and the open air.
The trip to the bottom was a long way off.
I must have clung too tightly because when I hit the first bump on the way down, instead of riding over the bump I hit it and sailed in mid air high above everyone else and I was not in a plane, or any kind of flying machine but I was flying on that carpet.
I was so scared I could see the look in my families faces below me they were scared too.
I thought I was going to crash and die, but something told me to lean back and so I did,
that broke my momentum and I fall back onto the ride, I slide down scraping all my arms but other than that I arrived safely at the bottom.
that experience was enough for me,
I never went back to an amusement park,
and I don\t think my heart could take the roller coaster ride or any of those scary rides again.
how about you did you ever love amusement park rides,
do you still love them,
or as you got older are you now afraid of the rides you once loved,
do you have any stories to tell about these rides?

I have always enjoyed the simple thrill and joy...The speed of a great rollercoster feels like you are free flying...Since I have got a little older I believe in and want the thrill even more...Life is so short so why not live while you have life left to live...I know that experience must have been scary...I have been scared a few times but I just get a ticket and ride again..;)

No.
In fact, I never really love it.
I have been to Disneyland and all but the rides just don't excite me - even when I was young.
The most I enjoyed was those water rides. Gentle ups and downs with some water splashing.

I agree those water rides are so much fun! And they rarely have accidents too.

I used to love all of the rides too but not anymore. they make me get sick and take the breath out of me.
I bet you were scared when that happened to you. Some young girl lost both of her feet recently on a ride around here when a cable snapped.
I think in this day and age people do not take the time to really make sure to check the rides out daily to make sure they are safe enough to run.
I know the thing that happened to you isn't funny at all, but sitting here thinking about it, made me laugh for some reason. I guess just thinking about it and picturing it, not that it was happening to you. It is just the way you told it LOL.
I am afraid of all rides now other than the ones where you can just glide in a boat on a little bit of water or drive the old time cars or take the train rides around the park.
I don't too much care for the others now.
Please don't take offenese to the laugh... That is the first time I laughed that hard in a very long time. Thanks for that!

I used to LOVE
roller coaster rides. But now with all of my health issues and my weight, I can't get onto them any more. I do miss the speed and the air time that you get from them.
There is one ride that I will NEVER
get onto again. It was called the Demon Drop and I always said that if felt like jumping off of a building, go on this ride. They actually have oxygen down at the bottom of the ride. When I got off, I was whiter than a bleached white sheet!
I love the smell of the food, but it all cost too much to buy. I really, really miss going and riding rides. I can't even walk the parks any more.
My son was SO scared of the rides and then one day he went with a bunch of friends and he called me when he got off and was SO excited and he loved it SO much he was in line again to go. I wish I could have been there to see his face and excitment from the pure joy of fun.

I use to love the amusement rides, the scarier the better. Until about 35 years of age, when I went to a small county fair, road the little Teacups. They spin in circles as the ride goes around in circles, well I tell you What! I almost lost my cookies,
I was so sick when I got off that ride.Since then I am very careful and for sure do not go on the spinning rides
But I will still do the Roller Coaster and Ferriss Wheel.
Truthfuly it has never been as much fun since then.

For as long as I live, I don't think I will get tired or even be afraid of riding. The higher the better. For now, I stick to riding those kiddie ones for the sake of my girls, lol.
I knew of one friend who have this great fear of riding anything. Once our group dared her to try the anchor. It looks like a big ship that swing from left to ride and going up higher and higher.
My friend took the challenge and rode beside me and another friend. Once the anchor started swinging, my friend began to panic and screaming hysterically. Her nails was digging on my forearm painfully. It was fortunate that the staff heard her and immediately put the ride on halt. You can see the fear in my friend's eyes and the way her body shaked violently. My forearms was all bruised and blue.
Since then, our group never dared ask her to ride with us again.

amusement park rides look like so much fun. Wish I had the guts to go on rollercoasters and such- I'm so afraid of heights! The only time I was on a rollercoaster was when I went to disneyland in Paris. I screamed all the way haha!

I love roller coasters. I always have and don't think I will grow out of this.
The only thing that scares me is when I've gotten stuck on them before.
Last summer, my boyfriend and I went to an amusement park and were on a roller coaster. The chain was lifting us up and we were about to go down the hill in a moment, but the coaster got stuck. It stopped and fell backwards a few notches. We sat there patiently as the workers told us there was nothing to fear and the ride would be resuming momentarily.
We waited a few minutes and a few more... Still nothing happened. Then we moved BACKwards again a few notches. After over a half hour they decided we should evacuate, and had to climb down a steep wooden plank-like thing after we exited our car.
That was really the only time I was very scared. Other than the chance of someone getting hurt or the ride breaking down, which is unlikely, I don't get scared.

heyyy that carpet ride thingy happens to me too, I ended up scrapping my arms, and it takes ages to heal, but that doesnt prevent me from going back again :P I learn that I need to relax and lean back a bit for the carpet to go safely :) but nowadays when im on the carpet, I wear long sleeve jackets to cover my arms :)
I still do love amusement parks, love the rides, the thrill and the fun :) Though I gotta admit the older I became, the more I got scared easily... but I still do love go on the rides :)

Hi, I still do love amusement park. In fact, we just went there twice last year (December 2007) with my boyfriend and friends. I don't like the roller coaster though (I only ride them once or if I feel like it) but I like the other rides like the ranger on where it will flip you out, bumpcars, anchor's away etc... There are also the horror booths there that are really cool. It is really a good experience!

Same here. As a kid I used to love those giantwheels, the bigger, the faster the better for me. And specially when it used to come down, OMG, it felt like being thrown out of your seat, so scary. Many years down the line, I started taking my son for the same giantwheel ride. I was excited, I thought I would enjoy it better with him, but no. it was so scary that I was actually waiting for the wheel to stop. I believe I was screaming and then I closed my eyes while coming down everytime and my heartbeat almost stopped a few times. My only thought was not of me alone flying off in a tangent, but the entire cubicle being blown up under force or maybe the entire wheel would collapse or something similar. Whew! What a ride, I do not look forward to it again, but everytime there is an opportunity, my son want to go up there so now I make my hubby sit with him.

I remember my childhood when we were in school and our school took us to amusement park named " appu ghar " in new delhi. there we used to enjoy lot, rides, elephents and many more things. Recently it was in news that appu ghar is closed due to lease. It is sad for all kids and for us also as appu ghar is past.

i am 23 years old. and i still the excitement and enjoyment involved in amusement park rides. I have had one incident but that didn't stop me from enjoying the fun..
The incident was as follows:
When i was around 12 years old.. i went to the Essel World( an amusement park in Mumbai) with my cousins. We had a ride which rotates like a tip-top .. I was sitting down with my cousin.. In the middle of the ride when it was in full flow, the security lock of our seat opened.. It even horrifies me till now when that incident comes to my mind. We were like sitting there shouting for the ride to stop
holding the rod tight so that we don't just fall out .. Finally when the ride stopped we steeped down on the ground with our legs shaking..
But just because of that incident .. i didnt stop going to such parks.. Even at this age i love to have such rides.. I have been to several amusement parks and its really fun...

I love amusement parks. I dont get as excited as I did when I was a kid but I still like them. I dont like to swim as much as I used to. I think id rather much lay out and try to get a tan. lol. But it doesnt always work. I can only take so many fast rides now though. I get really sick if it gets to fast and I just cant take it like I used to.
