I have just had my pregnant friend on the phone to me asking my advice, she is pregnant and due any day. She is fed up now and the babys head has dropped right into her pelvis and is rather uncomfortable. Anyway she said to me that someone had told her to take castor oil to bring on labour and she asked me if this was true and safe. I said well my sister in law used castor oil in her third pregnancy and she went into labour a couple of days after taking it, but then with her fourth baby that she had in January she took loads and nothing happened. I think apparently it makes you go to the loo and the pressure of constant going can set labour off but its not guaranteed. So it got me wandering, have any of you tried castor oil? what other myths have you heard of that can cause labour to start and have you ever tried any when you have gone over in your pregnancy or been due? and have any of them ever worked? I will pass any suggestions on to my friend for her to try!!!

Hi i have heard about this too, here in india some tribals use raw home made castor oil to induce labor, and they say, it works, one can try at ones own risk though..
Thank you so much for this post.

I know this is an old discussion but I found it interesting. By now your friends baby is probably about 3 months old.
I was getting so eager to try anything too when my last baby eas 4 days late. I too heard off people about the castor oil, but i did not want to try that. I think having intamcy with your partner in the bedroom brings it on, without going into too much detail.
Did not work for me this time, but I think it worked for my second pregnancy. I also heard jumping on the trampolene is meant to bring on labour, never tried that. Exercise too is meant to help, tried that, did not work for me. I even hear people having curry, to bring on labour apparently this worked for one of my mums friends, did not work for me. I have heard plenty more, but this is all that comes to mind at the moment.
