Bombing to "Give Peace a Chance".

In an apparent show of support of the troops, but not the war, some anti war peaceniks bombed the U.S. Military recruiter station at Time Square in New York.
I wonder if they would publicly beat a kid to show their opposition to child abuse.
Treason is a capital offense, is it not?

I don't get your point, what do you mean "Bombing".....to "Give Peace a Chance"?
bombing is bad, child abuse is bad, provocation is rather bad!

I'll never understand people to do insane things like this. I mean do they really think anyone is going to take them seriously when they claim to be against war and violence and then go and contradict themselves by bombing a recruiter station. What a bunch of mindless idiots! This is just as bad as so called Christian Pro lifers going and bombing abortion clinics and killing innocent people.
If these people spent all the time they spent on planning this bombings on finding non violent solutions to problems they might actually get something done!

Or at least maintain a little respect along the way.
I respect anyone's right to protest any war, but this isn't protest, this is treason.

Where did you read "some anti-war peaceniks" in that article? According to what you've linked here, there was *one* suspicious guy witnessed leaving the scene, and there's no indication of his motivations for doing it other than the site being a popular one for protests.
Anyway...I oppose the war, but even though this bomber chose to commit this act at an hour when no one should have been at the building, this was a dangerous act which could have ended up hurting someone if the bomb didn't work as planned. I don't know if this was really some sort of protest against the war, but it was really really stupid and careless.

Apparently they're looking for ONE guy on a bicycle and this bombing took place before dawn when there were no people there. I'm not condoning the actions of this ONE disturbed person but it certainly isn't fair to lump all of us "peaceniks" as some kind of mad bombers. I'd say "capital offense" is certainly a bit extreme, wouldn't you? If there had been anyone killed, then absolutely it would be but I wouldn't call it treason I'd simply call it MURDER!

Fair enough, and I agree with you. Most peace activists are peaceful people who just want their voices heard.

There you go, taking offense where none was intended. I didn't say ALL Peaceniks, did I?
Yes, there was 1 guy on the bike, but only time and investigation will tell how many people were involved.
Only time will tell the motive too, but I think we'd have to be pretty naive to not suspect an anti war motive when you consider the target.
When you hear of some nutjob bombing a Planned Parenthood clinic, do you think anything other than a nutjob anti abortion group? Even if only one person was actually there to plant the bomb?

OK, you got me there and I'm sorry about that. Let me say here I believe most people who advocate peace really advocate peace and are certainly against something like this just as most anti-choice people are also against that type of violence. As in so many cases it is the extremists in the minority who make it harder for the majority to get their message across.

I was sitting there at the DMV waiting to take my test to get my driving permit when they had that news on the TV. Of course, it was turned down really, really low, so I could only read the words (Explosion in Time Square) and see the images of the damage.
I thought it was some kind of terrorist attack like on 9/11. When my mom told me later on that day that it was some guy bombing a recruitment station, I immediately thought, "fundy Christians." You know, the kind who always go around blowing up abortion clinics?

I would agree that this is the same level of attack, except the target makes it a different crime. This bomber attacked a U.S. Military target during wartime. That's called "treason".

P.S... the fact that the recruiting center was empty at the time should be considered here though... so I while treason is a capital offense, there's no reason to go for the ultimate penalty here.

Yeah, that is a good thing there wasn't anyone inside the center at the time the bomb was planted. I wonder if the suspect was just trying to scare people or what?

This is all so typical! These radicals believe so passionately that violence is not the way to achieve peace until they decide violence is the only way to get their point across! Were going to support the TROOPS so we will kill a few! We don't like bombs being dropped on Iraq and Afghanistan so we will set some off ourselves! 99.9% of them are nothing but hypocrites!

Yup, typical of criminals who just need an excuse.

What amazes me the most is that the countries that the anti-war peaceniks like the most are countries that have forced military service. I like the fact that people in this country can choose if they what to serve in the military or not. We have recruiters were other countries have laws. If you choose not to serve in the military in this country no big deal, but in others you go to jail.

Exactly! and great point!
If they lived in the countries they seem to think are better than the U.S. they would be forced into military service, and executed for protesting against a war that country is involved in.
Of course, for many of them, they would be all for war, as long as its one of their heroes fighting it. It's not war they hate, it's not even the war in Iraq they hate... it's Bush they hate specifically, and the U.S. they hate in general.
