Everyone closes the door or at least most people do when there are people in the house, for privacy but do you do it when you are alone? you don't need privacy you are alone? is it a habit that you don't even think about? to be honest if I am alone I do not close the door, I do not see the need for it, what about you?

I always left it open when I lived alone (well, except for my dog) and it seemed odd sometimes to close it when anyone else was around. My bathroom here is so tiny I get claustrophobic, but I still close the door (so I don't scare my husband!). :)

I am not sure that I have any hard or fast rule. I sometimes don't shut the door when there are others in the house - although I might if I were female! We have never had a lock on our bathroom doors as we didn't want our daughter to lock herself in when she was small. I think that some of her friends find that a bit weird when they visit. I remember when we lived in an apartment my grandmother in law was visiting, she was 93. She went to the bathroom which was opposite our dining room where we were all eating dinner. My nephew who was about 2 followed her and pushed the bathroom door open. Suddenly there was grandma with her undies round her ankles! She just smiled and said "Hello there". We often talk about that day.

If I'm alone, what is the point of closing the door? I really don't see one. However, if I'm anywhere that I know it's possible that someone could come home at any minute, then I close the door. Otherwise, I just don't worry with it. It just isn't needed really.

I do not close the bathroom door when I am alone. The other times, it is me and my husband and if he is downstairs fixing the basement, I do not do it then. With me, it is once I open the bathroom door, I have to rush to the toilet, etc. and if I can make it and close the door at the same time, then I have accomplished something wonderful. Now I have a husband who leaves the seat up, so if I have to put the eat down and close the door at the same time, then I might not make it. But sometimes I manage if I make it on time.

Suspenseful, I loved that answer because I know exactly what you're saying about having to rush and having a husband who leaves the seat up! Why do they DO that? Annie

Yes, for me ,I will choose close the door when there are people in the house ,and I also will choose to close the door when I'm alone in the house .It has been a habit for me .I just do it autmoticly whether it need or not. I don't know whether it's a good habit or not ,I also don't know whether it's good for me or for my family or not ,But at least I feel good to do that.

LOL. I always have at least 5 or 6 cats and my dogs in there with me it seems. For some reason they seem to think I go there to visit with them.

What a great question. I just asked my hubby this question, too and we both agree that quite often we don't close the bathroom door when we know we are alone in the house. Now, day or night, the door to our house is usually locked, so we would know if anyone was coming in like each other, our daughter and grandchildren, etc. But know as a rule, I leave the door open when I am in there and alone!

I do not close the door to the bathroom when I am home alone. The bathroom which I use most frequently is off the master bedroom and is a bit removed from the rest of the house, so I often don't shut the door even if the rest of the family is home! For me, it seems pointless to close the door when I am home alone. I suppose if there were a burgler, and he walked in on me, I would wish that I had closed the door! Ha!

I usually leave it open a bit when I'm home alone, but since the bathroom door doesn't catch properly, the cats come in and pull on the door from the bottom to pop it open anyway. My FIL had to install a latch on the door because they do this everytime someone is in there using the bathroom or taking a shower. When I'm home alone, my dog has separation anxiety and follows me. So if the door is open ajar, he can come in and inspect the tub for enemies while I go to the bathroom. If I try to close it, he lays down right outside the door so I can't open it without hitting him on the way out. When people are home, he still follows me, but not as badly. He will lay in the hallway near the bathroom. When people are home, I will even use the latch to keep the door shut. Nosey cats!

I usually do not close my bathroom door. Its such a habit that even when people are here I tend to forget to shut it, unless of course theres a lot of people here for a party or something. The only time I shut it if im alone is when I take a shower and I want it warm in there for when I get out. My dryer makes a lot of heat and I usually dry a load of clothes while I shower, esp in the winter time. I just hate being cold.

I never close the bathroom door when I'm alone as I make sure the house is locked up before I shower or go to the toilet. I think it's quite liberating to be able to do your business with the door open!

I leave the door open, sometimes even around certian family too. If I know my roomie is in his room I leave it open, unless I hear him coming up the stairs. I don't like to feel closed in.

Hi winterrose! I close my bathroom door every when I am alone at home. I think it become my habit, you know, habit is second nature. When I go to bathroom, I don't consider should I close it or just open it, I just do it. However, It seems useless to do that. Have a good day!

I don't close it when no one else is home. I got in to the habit of leaving it opened when my kids were little because I always wanted to keep my eye on them. I was afraid if I closed the bathroom door than they would get hurt, or get in to something they were not suppossed to be in.

Hello friends am back. Yesterday I went shopping, and was really too tired to sit in front of the computer when I got home. Well, am sure everyone has a different view on this subject: For me I feel more comfortable when the bathroom door is closed; whether alone or not. I even lock the door never for you never know who is going to invade your privacy. I even close the door when am brushing my teeth or coming my hair, not lock now. It is just my instinct once I enter in the door.

yep some people are like that that is true. My grandmother was the same it was just force of habit. Family used to tease her about it and then she didn't lock the door anymore when alone but she still closed it.
