What is the dumbest thing you have ever seen someone do while driving?

We have all seen people doing stupid stuff they shouldn't be doing while they are in control of a potential murder machine.
I have seen so many women putting their makeup on behind the wheel that I can't count how many.
But, the dumbest thing I ever saw someone do while driving their car was...drum roll please! PAINTING HER NAILS! That is right folks! That takes the cake! Couldn't she just have either done that before she left the house or waited until she arrived at her destination to paint her nails? What the heck? Why don't people understand that thousands of people die either behind the wheel of their own cars or by being hit by someone with someone elses car? What is so hard to understand about how very dangerous our beloved 4 wheel transportation vessels can be? They are not a salon, a bathroom, a kitchen...as one woman admitted on a radio show I listen to, that she eats her cereal in the milk in her car while operating a stick shift driving. The hubby has seen people reading the newspaper while driving. A car is simply that! A car. It is meant to get us from point A to point B where we can proceed to do all of the stuff that some people think is perfectly safe to do in their car!
So, what is the dumbest thing you have seen someone do while driving? Or, what is the dumbest thing you have ever done while driving?

Head banging.. Have you ever seen a person head bang during a drive?? I have .This guy was so involved in his head banging that almost drove into a car up ahead at a signal. I was observing this guy for a while and noticed that It wasnt the normal head banging that people while driving, I also head bang sometimes when Im on my two wheeler, but looking at it , it would seem like I'm just nodding my head, But this guy was such a character that he closed his eyes partly and was shaking his head so violently that it seemed he was in a fit. He so closely missed the car ahead.
Other weird things are looking at a billboard instead of looking on the road, looking out at someone, talking to the passenger seated behind. Some of the commonest things that get people hurt, if not killed.

LOL! What are some people thinking? I suppose he was successful at bringing up two emotions for you while you were watching him...humor and fear. Humor as he made you laugh a little and fear that he was going to hurt someone.
Thank you for sharing your story!

Oh...and I meant to tell you about this:
I actually watched a woman approaching another car at a stop light while her head was turned to the back of her car, one hand on the wheel and the other hand in the back of the car doing something with the child in the backseat. She just kept driving and finally came to a stop but, I had no idea how she knew when exactly to stop as her head was turned 180 degrees around to the back of the car. Unless, it is true that mothers have eyes in the back of their heads. That is the only way I can imagine that she was able to see what was in the front of her car. Sheesh! Some people!

Not fear, but the humor part was there . I laughed at his face when he almost missed the car and drove away.

This is a very good and interesting discussion. I smile while reading your discussion because I think this is a very important issue, yet you make it sound subtle, light, airy and fun, ha!
I call all these bunch of people which you have mentioned as "slacker drivers" and they are certainly irresponsible. I also think that they are definitely selfish and careless. While endangering their own lives, they are also at the same time endangering other drivers' lives as well, and worst off, pedestrians even! What if a driver is painting her nails and suddenly an elderly lady dashes off or something. That would really be a disaster and by the time the driver realizes and decides to jam-brake, then I think it would be too late. That is scary and I hope that never happens to any of us.
I love to drive fast but I take key points in all the angles and safety precautions. I won't barge into a lane while picking at my nose and that is probably one of the worst I've seen drivers do. Other than that, I've seen people kissing while driving (yucks!), a guy taking off his shirt and putting on another (like he can't wait to stop driving) and this one takes the icing off the cake for me: I saw this woman while driving, her hands on the steering, and she was turning her head to the back and talking to her children as though she has eyes at the back of her head! I was riding at that time and I noticed that she took a good close to 1 minute to turn her head back front. At that time, traffic was indeed very light and she was on a straight road in the middle lane, but anything could happen like what if another vehicle just pops in front of her lane? What would happen to her and her children? I shudder to think. I just give this "look" at her and sped off my bike. I was shaking my head the whole time. I just don't know what to make off these people anymore.
Road safety is very important and it's already worst that there are lots of drink driving cases. Have a nice day and drive safely, my friend. ;)

Haha, you got it all right and sum it up pretty well. The lady who make-up while driving or the guy changing his shirt are the types that simply have this "couldn't care less" type of attitude which I really dislike. These types just endanger their own lives further and people like us which is really sad actually.
And that's not yet talking about drivers who change lanes abruptly, ha! Thanks to you too and you have a great day. Drive safely as well, and I would be sure to watch my driving as well and not slack on it.

Thank you Zed. It is a very dangerous problem and extremely serious. I sometimes wish that I could stop them and ask them if they know that people make fun of them for being so irresponsible and that other people get mad at them for putting the lives of the people around them at risk. I don't believe that there is any reason for doing the things that some people do while driving. It makes me mad when I see people doing stuff like putting makeup on in their cars. It makes me feel like they might as well be trying to kill me. They are, after all, putting my life in danger by not paying full attention to the only task at hand.
Thank you for your response. And, it sounds like you have seen some people doing some crazy stuff too. And, I can't understand why the guy who was changing his shirt couldn't just wait until he was parked somewhere either! Jeez. Was it that important to change his shirt right then and there?
Thank you again for your response and you also have a nice day and stay safe while driving!

I think you are right! I heard that people on cell phones hold traffic up and extra 2 or more minutes because they drive slower since they are distracted. They even tend to drive below the speed limit. They also can't signal left or right because they don't have both hands available to steer and flick the turn signal. Ugh! GET OFF THE PHONE! LOL!

I had to ride to work with a friend while my car was in the shop and when he pulled into my driveway to pick me up I noticed he had a plate of food. I got in, put on the seatbelt and then asked him "what are you going to do with that plate of food in your lap?" He laughed and said "I'm going to eat it on the way to work!" He then hit the lever of the steering wheel and lowered it so he could steer the car with his knees. He drove about 5 miles over the speed limit and was sometimes over the yellow line. I offered to drive while he ate but he said "No, I'm OK, I do this every morning"
Well I called in the next day to tell them I wouldn't be in and why. My boss said he understood and gave me a "sick" day.
You can bet I didn't ride with him ever again. I see people eating and driving every day but not like that. Needless to say he got pulled over later that same week and got a ticket for careless driving.

Good grief! What is it with guys and driving with their knees? I can't even begin to do it. But, every man I have ever known can. I can understand some french fries but, a plate of food? What is with people eating foods that are meant to be eaten at a table. Even a sandwich can be excusable. I might do it when I am driving from GA to OH to visit family because they hubby and I only like to make gas and potty breaks. But, a plate full of food! What? I am glad he got pulled over. And, good for you for taking a stand and staying safe!

The dumbest thing I've seen is some people just being able to drive in the first place. Alright alright, me being cynical but its true. I'll give you some examples then Cort.
One person did a U turn suddenly and right in four lane traffic.
A few people were hazing pedestrians by reving when the pedestrians had right of way.
Several people tried to take me home as a windshield ornament.
Many people drive with a cellphone growing out of their heads.
Someone parked their car in the middle of the road obstructing traffic
One person did 45 in a school zone
Several other people did 35 in a school zone when kids were around
A few people drove on the wrong way of traffic (a couple right into oncoming traffic...)
Too many people keep turning left from the straight/thru only lane
One person drove with a clogged/faulty exhaust and engine, creating walls of smoke for freeway traffic behind them
Several truckers using roads clearly marked NO TRUCKS
One teen drove on the sidewalk for awhile and took one of the trees on the side of the street for a short ride (until he crashed into the larger tree next to it).
One person stole a left turn from an go-on-arrow only lane, almost hit a pedestrian
One guy let his 5 year old drive while he worked the pedals from the passenger side.
(Possible myth but still...) Supposedly one person was playing Gameboy/Gameboy DS while driving. At least someone did because it does come up on gameboy warnings as an image

Here's one that may take the cake... literally
A person was driving, while eating cake.
They had the pastry box somewhere balanced between the steering wheel and their gut. They also had a fork sticking upright out of it. The face and mouth area was covered with icing...
I had discussions about a driverless car and the jetpack (possible future transportation). I fear what'll happen when people I've mentioned are able to take to the sky. Even in the driverless car, I think they'll still manage to buffoon it somehow.

Thank you! I did get a few chuckles. Mostly some Oh Mys but, a few chuckles too! People seriously need signs that sit right on their steering wheels and perhaps a few other places on and inside of their cars that remind them that their vehicle is not a toy. It can be deadly when in he wrong hands. Ugh! Idiots! LOL!
Thank you for the chuckles!

The dumbest thing I have ever seen someone do while they were driving totally floored me. I had to look like three times to actually believe what I was seeing. While I was sitting at a red light the lady next to me was talking on her cell phone and actually shaving her legs. Talk about multi tasking, she went way over the top with that one.

The most stupid thing I have ever seen anyone do whilst driving was when I was at a beach when I was little and the girl was driving a soft top car and she had a passenger who had a baby on her lap and they were driving up and down the strip using water pistels to get others in their cars or on the road.
I will never forget this as I was only about 8 - 9 but always thought how stupid it was because that poor child would have stood no chance if they had crashed.

LoL... actually, while we were out just yesterday I said to my husband as I was pointing to the car in front of us "I think that guy is shaving his face!". And, he was... he was using an electric shaver! We couldn't believe it! I guess the thing I do the most that I really shouldn't is EAT in the car while driving. I talk on my cell phone too and I really should buy myself another hands free piece so it won't distract me so much. But, right now it really isn't too much of a problem considering I only drive now about once a week due to my medical problem. When I drive it acts up and makes my legs real stiff & sore.

I forgot that one! The hubby has seen a man shaving in his car too. I haven't seen that one. What is that about?
I use my cell now and then in my car. I had a bluetooth headset thing but, it didn't work very well so, I need to get a better one someday. But, then again, I don't use my cell in my car as much as I would feel comfy justifying the cost of a bluetooth.
I think that eating while your driving is ok. But, eating cereal in milk with a spoon while driving a stick shift seems really risky.
