Do You Know What Thrush Of The Mouth Is?

This is Thrush of the mouth - It's very painful but not abnormal. It's not widely known so I thought I'd pass this on.

I was so embarassed to see a doctor when I got it but eventually had to. Who wants to see a doctor over a painful tongue or mouth? lol Well, I get this from time to time and it is very painful. The reason I get it is because of two reasons, one being an antibiotic that I may be taking, second is because of an antacid that I have to take. Thrush is a fungus in which causes white spots on the tongue and roof of the mouth and burns especially when eating spicey foods... oh gosh does it ever burn then! To get rid of it, you'll need to either see your doctor so to be prescribed some antifungal medication OR you could try to cure it yourself. You can do that by putting baking soda on your tongue for about 30 seconds and repeat one more time, do this about 3 times a day, brush your teeth, tongue and roof of your mouth, rinse with antifungal mouthwash and then rinse with salt water. It may take a bit longer than seeing a doctor and getting the prescription but it does work.

Hi Cats! You know, I never really thought about that until after my recent surgery. I never did go to the doctor to have it checked out to be sure, but I think I had thrush for about a week or so after my surgery. They had me on antibiotics just before the big day, and I honestly think it caused the problem. But I was eating so much thinned yogurt for that first week that I think it cured it all by itself. I remember my daughter getting it all the time when she was a baby and I had to put some kind of prescription liquid on it a few times a day. Boy, she hated it too!

Dannon Yogurt - It even cures yeast infection too! But use plain dannon yogurt for that part of the body and eat the fruit kind.
Hi Kat! Yup you cured it yourself without realizing you were doing it! Lucky you! lol Oreo just responded a few before you and she says to drink buttermilk and/or yogurt with active cultures and one will never have it again... I know I'm going to the store today!!:) lol

Yes very irritating and painful! The baking soda is something I tried and it seems to cool it down some and so I think it helps to heal. I just let it sit on my tongue for about 30 seconds then I spit it out and rinse my mouth out with water. Oreo just responded before you and she says to drink buttermilk and/or yogurt with active cultures and one will never have it again... I know I'm going to the store today!!:) lol

Wow. I am sorry you get that. It looks painful! I honestly didn't know adults could get thrush. I thought only babies got that.

This Might Work... - I'm not sure though and would have to try it myself to give a definative answer. But I'm very willing to try!
Nope, we adults can get it too. Not too many people know about it, that's why I had to do a discussion on it. When I first got it, I was so embarassed and wouldn't go to a doctor till I reached a breaking point and had no choice. My doctor wasn't sure what it was either but guessed at it and thankfully she was right and got me the right medication. I mean, can you imagine going to a doctor complaining about pain on your tongue? lol Made me wonder what the doctor thought of me or where I had been.... which was NOWHERE!! LOL

I know they used to prescribe Jimson Violet for this as well. I find that my mouth is healthier if I take a B complex with C. I do not know if it will help thrush, but it will help with canker sores. Yogurt when you take the antibiotics might also help.

Really? How cool!! Where do you find this stuff at? I got a really cool response from OreoCookie3, response #4 in which she tells buttermilk will cure and prevent it from reaccuring as well as yogurt with live cultures so off to the store I'm going! Thanks GardenGerty!

Another mouthwash? - Another mouthwash that I've found on the net. It may help with thrush as well.
Hi Terry! Not many people know about it and I didn't want anybody else to go through what I did and be embarassed by it like I was so I had to do a discussion on it. I hope you never get it because it's some kind of painful! I'm working on getting rid of it once again and Oreo just responded after you and she says to drink buttermilk and/or yogurt with active cultures and one will never have it again... I know I'm going to the store today!!:) lol

This sounds very nasty. I wouldn't try treating it myself. I would rather a prescription that is guaranteed to cure quickly. I have heard of antibiotics causing thrush.

Nasty and very painful. I just did Oreo's suggestion and it works! She said to drink buttermilk or eat yogurt with live cultures and it'll cure it and today I bought some buttermilk and drank very little and swished it around in my mouth first and the thrust is almost gone! So I'll save my money and drink it (YUCK! I don't like it at all) I'll be cured in a day or two more. Now that's fast!!

Hello cats! I'm sorry that you're experiencing that. I'm hoping you'll recover soon. Don't feel embarassed to see a doctor because you never wanted or expected you'll have that and it's their job after all. Take care.

Try Yogurt. It seems to help fight off yeast infections no matter where they are:). My neighbors daughter had Thrush, which became painful for her. We sterilized her bottles and nuk but that didn't seem to help. I read in a magazine that women with yeast infections should eat yogurt because of the live cultures in it. I gave some to baby and we did this for 3 days by the end of day three it was gone. It makes the duration a little lighter on the one needing healing. Good Luck and God Bless!!

Have you ever heard of Candida overgrowth? It's extremely common in western countries now because of antibiotics. Candida is a yeast that exists naturally in your gut, but when someone takes antibiotics, the balance of bacteria in their gut is disturbed, and candida is no longer in check. One of the main symptoms is oral thrush. The best long term cure is to get the candida under control, and you can do this by cleansing with diet and herbs. Look up on the internet for more information. You could also talk to a naturopath about your specific condition and they would be able to help you.
