When you fry your ground beef do you rinse the beef to drain off the excess fat? I do. I have a friend that says that it takes all the flavor out but I don't feel this way. I have been doing this for a long time and have never gotten any complaints.

I do do this, because I have a child who has a medical condition that necessitates a low fat intake (he will get terribly ill otherwise) we do not find it rinses out the flavor. I use 96% lean ground beef usually for him - and I do not necessarily use boiling water to pour through it. though it works if making pasta to just drain the pasta water through the meat.

Yeah I don't think that it takes any of the flavor out. I especially don't like to eat chili or soups where you can see the fat floating on top.

unless you grind your own beef, it is advisable to rinse off the loaf after you remove it from what ever container it came in. The moisture that inevitably forms at the bottom on the foam package is a harbinger of bacteria. Most of it won't hurt you, but with as many tainted meat supplies as we seem to run into lately giving it a good rinse is usually a good precooking step. I cook my burgers above the grease in either a grill pan or when I broil them on a rack. There is indeed flavor in beef fat and I usually have a little on hand to use, but there is no reason even us people low carb diets to eat excess saturated fat. Even when cooking in nonstick you should have a little oil on the surface of your pan to prevent meat from drying out.

I aLlways strain my ground beef very good but i have never rinsed it. I guess I could do that and then return it to the pan to add my spices to it. I don't like alot of fat either or grease for that matter. I think if we add the spices to it later, then the flavor should come back to it.

I have never rinsed off my ground beef. The thought had never occurred to me. I normally use the 96% lean stuff that has very little fat in it anyway. I usually put mine in a strainer with a paper towel and let the grease drip off onto a plate.

I usually rinse it with hot water to remove some of the excess grease. If people are worried about loosing some of the flavor, they can just add a pinch of beef bullion to whatever they're cooking.

No, I've never rinsed ground beef. I just drain the grease. I usually buy the leanest I can find so it will not have much grease. I've known people who rinsed it, but I've never felt it was necessary.
