Rant Part 3: Not Really A Rant: Is My Face Red!! Or Should I Still Complain?

Okie dokie...I've been relating my frustrations in my Ranting discussions about how my bank had deducted that $38.90 just recently that was related to an unauthorized charge by the Disney Movie Club that happened back in Janaury..I mentioned how this was going to screw up my account, make my two checks I had written out to my gas and electric bill bounce and so forth. I had gone to my bank on Monday and got a customer service person who to put it mildly was a jerk and didn't really give me the time of day. I was going to persue this matter still and go back to the bank and try to talk to someone like the supervisor or manager to get things settled as I knew I was in the right and the bank wrong...uh, well..I thought I in the meantime emailed my bank..thought gee, maybe that would be better than talking to some jerk at my bank and explained the whole situation...well I checked my on-line account and there was an email reply to me...It seems that when I WAS deducted back in January for the $38.90 which was unauthorized, I did go to the bank to sort it out then..got practically the same response as I did yesterday...and no this had been a different jerk in the bank..so I had emailed my bank (which is the main office not my bank) back then too..they were the ones that sent me a claim form to fill out (why couldn't my bank have done that?? I'm sure they must have had some forms there too) The bank in the meantime DID give me a temporary credit for the amount of $38.90 until such time (there was a time limit) that Disney would credit the amount back to me---so yes, then after I got things straightened out with Disney they did issue a credit back to me..so in effect I had that temporary credit issued by the bank to me for $38.90 and then the credit for the same amount from Disney..so in effect TWO credits of $38.90 So yes technically speaking then the bank DID have the right to deducting that temporary credit they gave me for the $38.90 back in January...so yes they were in the right...and blushing here like crazy after all that ranting BUT...the thing is...WHY DID THEY WAIT SO LONG?? I mean in the meantime I honestly forgot about that temp credit--WHY DIDN'T they deduct the credit from Disney AS SOON AS IT CAME IN??...instead of waiting two friggin months and still in the process screwing up my account like that? Do I still have the right to complain about that???? I'm thinking of emailing them again to point this out to them...I get better responses like I said by emailing them

Even though you need the money, it is good that this is resolved. I think the bank has up to 90 days to revoke credits like that since they know it can take that long for a credit to post to your account.

LOL How true that is! When you make the mistake they are there before you can even fix the problem.

Banks like to take your money. I've learned this. They don't really play fair, so it's not surprising that they did this. They really screw people over who don't make tons of money or who forget stuff that happened 2 months ago. I think that they should have taken it out as soon as Disney credited your account. I know how it feels to find out that it was your mistake after all because I have done that, you just feel like an idiot and want to go hide under something! Good luck with your bills, I know what it's like to live paycheck to paycheck and hope that you'll have enough to make it.

You're so right and that's my feeling that they should have deducted that amount right away..the banks sure are fast enough though in deducting bounce check fees aren't they? Like right away then

I am glad that someone finally looked into it and explained it to you. I guess you really didn't fix your checks bouncing, but at least someone took the time to figure it out. They should have done it long ago, but they probably only go through and do those every so often.

Oh my gosh hun you really have had a time with these people. You have every right to complain about this. When they gave you the credit and it was used up your account should have shown in overdraft and that when Disney paid you back it would have automatically been taken out. Your bank really can't be too bright if they are trying to play like this with peoples money. Sometimes I really hate banks. Although I have never had something like this happen. I would stop using my bank if that ever happened to me. I don't people very well when it comes to my money especially since they charge us to keep our money in their bank.

I was thinking about you today because this morning I checked my bank account and they had deducted $150.00 for a bank loan which I had paid off in full on th 14th of February but the still took a payment out for March. I was pi$$ed off to say the least!! After taking my own advise kicking up holy heck with 3 different people they apologised and credited the money IMMEDIATELY back into my account. Thank goodness because I would have had a problem getting it straightened out if I had not complained as soon as the bank opened this morning. Anyway I am glad everything turned out OK for you. I check every penny every day as I do not trust the bank not to make mistakes.

Thank goodness you got your problem straightened out pronto and you must have nearly had a heart attack when you saw that $150 deduction. I still wish my bank could have deducted that money right away when the Disney credit came in...they took their darn time about it yet are fast enough to deduct for overdraft fees aren't they?

Yeah, such things can happen in life. Because bad time can come without a strike. But its the person who should make efforts to come out of it, like you just did. Sometime you have to really work hard in order to get things right even though its not your mistake. But after all its only humans who create mistakes. If human do not create any mistakes then will be termed as "GOD". So let it be humans not GOD yet. Well you can still email the bank to remind them of their earlier mistakes. But mind you do not stretch the rubber band so much that it break. You can understand what I meant to say over here. Thanks for reading my response. Goodbye

I know the bank should have made the deduction right away when the Disney credit came in two months ago--after all the banks are fast enough charging and extracting overdraft fees..like the split second your overdrawn

WOW that's annoying!! I would have temporarily forgotten about it too. My only explanation for that is they thought 2 months was a reasonable time frame for Disney to have fixed their problem instead of checking your account for it to come in. Things like this is why I don't go by what the bank says I have but what my bank book says. I've known too many people to get messed up by situations like this (or just forgetting a deduction hasn't made the bank yet). Instead I 'balance' them when I get the statement at the end of the month. And by balance I mean make sure I didn't forget to add anything in to my account of things.

I don't think anybody has a right to take an unathorized deduction from a checking account or a deduction without warning. Even bill collectors who take automatic deductions every month usually sent a notice ahead of time as a reminder. People tend to run their checking accounts tight while keeping their savings in another account and banking fees for bounced checks are huge. Nice to know that bit about emailing them. I hate dealing with tellers and bank managers face to face and it's hard to even get a human voice on the telephone. 'llI keep what you said about emaiingl in mind.

How true that they should give some kind of warning about deductions. Yes I think I did better at least with the emailing of my bank..at least I got an answer--oh and don't get me going about trying to talk to someone on the phone! It's usually one of those press 1 for this, press 2 for that and you never get to talk to a real person..or, if you do it's someone in China or India!

They waited long b/c that's what they do! some places seem to take as long as they want to get things done. And I know a lot of people look at the balance of their account and think it is all good and aren't expecting things like this to happen. You do have the right to complain b/c you were counting that as your money and they should have instead billed you for the 38$ instead of just saying "bye bye" to it. I don't know why it takes so long for things to "process". When I filled a fraud claim on my credit card, they eliminated the charges immediately and said they would do an investigation. Something like 3 months later I got a letter saying they investigated and it is a fraud so I was in the clear. Ok, so to speak on the side of the banks and the card companies, they do have one good reason to be so slow... b/c you know there are hundreds of people out there filing false claims that they have to investigate. So good, honest claims like yours are in the same pile with all the others and that's probably the only reason it takes so long. Well, I hope you feel better and I hope they do something for you so your checks don't bounce :)

That would stink! I think delivery methods stink too. I just bought 500$ worth of new blinds and the sales lady was like "oh and it's so convenient, you don't even have to sign for it, if you aren't home they just leave it on your doorstep" How is that convenient? Convenient for the thieves maybe! I'd rather HAVE to sign for it. Then there was Sears, ordered a $400 kitchen table thing and it said on the site signature was required. The left it on my doorstep. It was 143 pounds! My husband got home from work and managed to drag it into the house just barely. If I had come home first, I would not have been able to move it myself, especially since our front door is a few inches off the ground. it sounds like your computer had a signature, but that could have been false. Maybe there was no signature. Maybe they left it on your doorstep, someone stole it, and they lied and said they had a signature. OR maybe the delivery guy signed it himself! Either way, I'd almost rather go pick my stuff up than risk it being left outside.

Well it took me three months to get things settled with Apple computers..I had ordered a custom Mac computer via their website...en route to delivery to me (Fed-Ex) it was "mis-delivered"--sure..someone probably helped themselves to it...there were investigations about it but since it was one record that it was delivered and signed for I couldn't get a replacement computer nor my money back...don't ask the crap I had to go through...and this was considerably a LOT more than being out of $38.90! The bank did help me there with the claim...but it took three months to settle the matter....in the meantime I'm literally tearing my hair out thinking I was really screwed and out thousands of dollars for that computer-did get the money back...uh, eventually

Having had the experiences I have had with Bof A I do think you still have the right to complain. my bank kept me in limbo for a whole month beforethey decided yes I had deposited one hundred dollars instead of ten and yes someone in the bank made an error, their error not mine and they made me feel like the culpret not the victim. their line had been the bank does not make errors and mine was we all make errors. so point out that they took much too much time in doing all that. good luck.

I still think that was horrible that whoever deposited or processed your check made an entry of only ten instead of a hundred dollars...I mean how would THEY like it if it happened to them? They probably get the situation fixed up in minutes rather than a month then, right?

They should have explained the charge this time as the reversal of the temporary credit so that you would know what the whole thing was about in the first place. If they would just learn to communicate like reasonable human beings, people wouldn't call them so irate to start with. So, it is all their fault for lacking skills. They have earned your ire, if not this time, then for next time they jerk you around.
@Trace86 (5030)

That would have been logical and made sense. Banks typically endeavor not to do either of those things. They like to keep you off balance, pun intended, so that they can charge exorbitant fees for problems that they caused.

They definitely should not have waited for two months to deduct that credit from your account. AND they should have been able to explain that all to you without all of the runaround you had to go through. They don't sound very efficient or professional to me....but that's just my opinion. I say go ahead and email the heck out of them until they explain to you why they waited so long. They owe you at least that.

You can complain, but I doubt it would do you any good. When the bank gives a credit for an unauthorized charge you are supposed to hold it for 60 days in order for things to get straightened out. Banks are very independent and not very nice sometimes.

Bank Customer Service - Should be much better than the treatment you're getting!
Still Pye, they should've taken the time to explain this to you instead of being jackasses about it and making you all upset over something so simple and easy to understand ONCE they've explained it to you. I would email the main bank once again and complain about how you were treated in hopes something will be done about it so your experience in the future will be a better one.
