Rabbit Feeding

I have many rabbits that visit my yard and sometimes they hang out under my front deck. I tossed some bread crumbs and crackers out for the birds one day. The next day all I saw were rabbit tracks and no bread left. So I broke up some salad greens and brocoli for the rabbits. But it's sat there all day with no rabbits coming around. Will they eat the brocoli at all? If you have wild rabbits do you feed them. If so what do you feed them? I have them eating the leaves off my lilies all summer and want them to be located away from them so I want to try to train them to be in a certain area by feeding them there daily. Any suggestions what is good for them other than store bought feed? Thanks in advance.

When I lived in a house this big wild rabbit came around in the winter, right to the patio. As I recall I used to leave some carrots for him/her. When spring came the ingrate ate all the new lettuce and other plants that I put into my vegetable bed, and then one day I saw a little baby rabbit as well. They are so cute but I don't think you can train them to be in a certain area. They have a mind of their own.

They don't hang out in my backyard due to Buster my beagle. He chases them and they got smart by staying away.
I am going to keep at this with various foods till they learn to eat in that spot mostly. Thanks also.

Maybe you should plant a little patch of leaf lettuce where you want them, next spring.

I would imagine the rabbit tracks you saw if the bread was gone but the greens weren't were not rabbits but rats.
Rabbits may not at the leaves though as wild rabbits will tnd to be more inspired by a growing plant.
you could try rabbit feed but again that could attract rats.
If you really get fed up I would ask you to consider a "biological" option: maybe a ferret. Or if you haven't the heart for that try a cat. A cat will keep them away but unless its a semi feral cat will not prey on them.
Our local golf course used poison to get rid of rabbits and moles and it devastated a great deal of non target wildlife. It bugs me no end when people think foxhunting is cruel but play golf.
Anyway that is your biggest concern is that without a predator rabbits tend to breed ....well....like rabbits.

Thanks but they are definitely rabbit tracks. Never saw a rat near my house in the years I have owned it. It is definitely rabbits. I am going to get some type of rabbit repellant for my flower beds as well this spring to protect my Lilies and other flowers etc. Thanks again.

The rabbits around my place love to eat the leaves off of baby bell pepper plants. I've tried sprinkling black pepper around the plants to keep them away. I'm not sure if it works, but once I discover that they've been nibbling, the black pepper seems to keep them away.

I wish that I could help you, but I don't have this issue, as my hubby and I live in a mobile home park. I would think though that if you kept putting stuff in a certain spot that they would learn to eat mostly from that area. But I am not to sure about that. I had rabbits as pets when I was younger, but never had experience with the wild ones.

Okay and thanks for your response.
I guess they like the grains over greens.

It sure sounds like they like the stuff you set out the first time.
