California Court Says Parents Have no Right to Teach their Own Kids...

Once again a judge in California has removed his brain and thrown it out the window before making a ruling on a case.
This absolute Monster of a "judge" lives under some halucination that only people who hold a teaching degree can teach.
Stalin would be proud of this lump on a bench.
Apparently to this totalitarian fool, the only thing parents have where kids are concerned is abort them.
Once they are out of the womb, I guess this plague on humanity thinks the government should have all the say.
Judge H. Walter Croskey, you are a menace to society. You deserve to be spat on. Your existence in a place of authority is a slap in the face to all that the Constitution stands for.
Your life is a waste of matter.

Wow, this is stupid. I can see reasons for wanting to ensure the kids are actually getting an education like implementing mandatory testing to see that they are getting the knowledge they need to progress in life, but to basically say that parents can't home school their kids without accreditation? Now I think that having every teacher accredited is important as they have to deal with 30 kids that they effectively cannot discipline, but a parent automatically has more control over their kids, and if they are willing to take the time to educate their kids properly then the state should be jumping for joy not slamming them. Of course you mentioned in another reply that the only people that this benefits is the teachers union and that sounds about right, after all they are all but making it illegal for any non unionized teacher to teach. I may be a left leaning individual, but god I hate unions, 99% of the time they are not needed.

So far, I can't see how mandatory testing has done much to improve public school success. It's rediculous that Teachers' unions want homeschoolers to prove their worth, while at the same time rejecting any plan to make public schools do the same.

Actually, I do agree that homeschoolers need to have oversight, just like any other education system. I'm just pointing out hypocrisy of the teachers' organizations. They whine about NCLB testing, but demand it of homeschoolers.
To me, the only real way to test a curriculum is evaluate the students performance in subsequent grades. If the kids are starting Jr. High unprepared, no matter how well they did on tests in elementary school, the curriculum isn't working.

Well standardized testing has been mismanaged and poorly thought out, that being said making sure that the people who claim to be homeschooling actually are is probably a good idea. Make sure the home schooled students are at least as well educated as public school students is a worthy goal don't you think?

This is totally absurd. What right will they take from us next time? It is my child and am raising her the way I want it to. If I think she will do well with home schooling, then I will do it. Whatever the best for my child, I will do as a parent. I will not let anybody tell me what to do. Sometimes, the people we vote for, we thought that they are looking out for us, but it will make you wonder sometimes.

If you do that in California now, you would be a criminal.
Fortunately Gov. Arnold vows he will get laws passed to make it legal again.

I am glad I am not in California right now. And yes, I hope the governor will do something about it. I hope that the time will not come when a state will be called "not family friendly" because of the crazy laws/requirements they wanted to impose on the families.

while I am Canadian,I must agree with you on the idiots that run both out countries,it would appear, that just because we vote them in,they figure we approve of,at allow them to make any and all laws they wish.
I just wish they would realize,we are voting for the one we think of as the least dangerous,we know there is no honesty or faith in either of our governments, but we must vote the lessor of the evils.
To bad it is illegal to shoot the rotten ones, then only the good would run.lol

Yes, it is a shame isn't it. But, unlike the most dishonorable H. Walter Croskey... the rest of us respect rights.

The sad thing here is, just like the judges on the supreme court, we do not get to vote for them, they are appointed, and our lousy Congress has kept the judges who are pro family out of the available seats. We need to start holding our representatives accountable to "WE THE PEOPLE". Boot their sorry butts out and get some pro family rep's in there so we will not lose every bit of rights parents have.

I think parents should start teaching their children more than they are right now. The schools are doing a poor job in this state. Keep in mind I posted just a few days ago California is 49th out of 50 states with terrible test scores.
The reason this judge did this is money. Each student that attends public school means the state gets money for every day that the child is sitting in a chair at school.
I think schools should be required to provide the right number of teachers to a classroom and if that class isn't learning, then find out why and fix it quickly. If the teachers aren't qualified to teach, then get a different teacher. Remember I posted the other day lots of teachers are losing their jobs in many of our school districts because of budget cuts.
California needs to fix their schools or let parents teach their child (ren). Many of my friends home schooled their children, as when they attended public school they just sat in a chair and learned very little.

True, these judges should be encouraging parents to teach kids, not discouraging it.
I always here teachers' groups say that class size is the problem. Well, if there are fewer kids enrolled in the school, that won't be a problem anymore.
You are right, the problem is money. Public schools worry more about money than they do about educating kids.

It took me a while to get up to speed on this as I hadn't heard about it until just this morning.
This is just the opening shot in the forced indoctrination of our children. As has been the case for a long time... as California goes, the rest of the country soon follows.
I think this Judge handled this very badly because he upset a lot of people ... and that was NOT supposed to happen. Now damage control is required and ruffled feathers must be smoothed in order to lull everyone back to sleep for this nefarious assault against our children, our freedom, and our sovereignty can continue.
Here is a link that may shed some light on what has been occurring for a very long time...
http://www.americanpolicy.org/educ/educationfails.htm
Credit goes to Mizrae and ladyluna as they originally found this.
Our education system and government are programming our children into what they want them to be instead of educating them, and they have been do it for a while.

I haven't gone to the link you provided yet, but that was the thought going through my mind too. They know they can control our children while they have them in the schools, teach them there is no such thing as God, not to pray, not to salute our flag. Not my kid's what they don't get at school on morality they sure get at home, and the government will have to forcefully take them away from me before I will allow them to be brain washed by this BS.

Oh WOW! That article is an eye opener. I am going to see if I can find that ladies book, sounds like we all need to read it if we are parents, or just want to know what our leaders are really up to. Thanks for sharing.

I heard about this days ago (and I forgot to put a discussion down. Maybe its my getting tired of the place... I don't know -_-)
Anyways, this is pretty disgusting. All we need is just a comparison of homeschooling compared to public uneducation. I keep getting reports of homeschooling yielding better results... and at the same time getting more reports, accounts and even news stories of the abyss public uneducation is going through.
Even without that, parents should have a choice of educating their children the way they want. If that's homeschooling so be it. If its private schooling, so be it. Anybody ever think of that too? If homeschooling can be axed, what's to stop another communazi "I/Government am better than YOU" judge from declaring private education "unacceptible" for "education standards"?
Or maybe this is for the best. Instead of being taught by mommy and/or daddy, your kids can be "taught" (or not taught) by the public elementary-screweds. Just think of it, more indoctrination, more feel good, less learning, less results. Sounds good for the future of a country. -_-

I think the schools are scared that some kids might not go through the social engineering that has taken over our education, and actually learn to think for themselves.

well thats dumb for alot of people now do home schooling and they have to go along certain guide lines to do this.
SOme times I wonder who assigns some of the judge to thier seat.
that person should be looked at to . For what they stand for.
I for one think I would home school my grandddaughter IF she isnt doing good at school or there is such a shooting threat going around like it is now at our schoolos almost every day you here of one at one of the schools here. PArents need to keep theior kids safe and if this is the way to do it, then no judge should have a voice in it!

I don't see any reason why parents shouldn't be allowed to teach their kids as long as they are qualified and actually teaching them, not just letting them color in coloring books.

OK, ParaTed, Now I know what has you so riled up, yep I read that and was horrified. This man must be out of his ever loving mind. I have thought many times of home schooling, and may still do it if the our school system gets any worse. The court's have taken almost every right parent's have away. We don't do anything any more except create the embryo, once the child is born it now becomes the property of the State. Before long they won't even let us have our own children, they will be created for us in a test tube, so they are a perfect race, raised by us until school age, and then like some other countries carted away to state run schools. Mean time we set back on our haunches and let congress keep the judges who are pro family out of the court system, and we keep electing these idiots over and over. Better wake up America, tomorrow you may be living in a country closely resembling Red China, or Russia.

It goes back to one of "ParaTed2k's (Not So) Famous Sayings..
"Parents in the future won't only allow the government to raise their kids, they will insist the government does so".
And why will parents insist the government raise the kids? Because the school system will have finally accomplished something.

In the old days, people need not get a degree to teach. Since we're not in the old days anymore, it doesn't mean that people without a teaching degree shouldn't teach. Learning doesn't just happen in classrooms. That judge is really out his mind. I wonder what the basis are for this decision.

First of all ParaTed, your first line assumes that this judge even had a brain to throw. These mindless appointees are there for one reason and one reason only and that is to promote the agenda of the appointer! The reason our public education has taken such a downward spiral is because the goals of our government have ultimately been reached and now they don't want anyone undermining them with something called home-school. The Goals? Mostly to completely eliminate parental and family influence in the education system. For decades now the parent has slowly but surely been eliminated from the educational process of their children. In many years past schools and educators would work hand in hand with parents to insure the children involved would get the best possible education, not so today!

That's true in general, but not everywhere. In my son's school, there are teachers who do resent parental input and participation, but most not only welcome it, they are relieved when they get it.

And that is wonderful that there are still teachers out there who care that these future leaders get the best education possible! Still, this used to be the rule rather than the exception and that is just plain wrong! We as a nation shouldn't have a problem keeping good qualified and caring teachers in any school setting across the country! To have teachers choosing to change careers because they can't pay their bills on a teachers salary is criminal! Of course if you are a congressman/woman you could just vote yorself a raise!
