Here is part of what Bush said in a video conference with military and civilian personnel in Afghanistan Friday:
"I must say, I'm a little envious. If I were slightly younger and not employed here, I think it would be a fantastic experience to be on the front lines of helping this young democracy succeed. It must be exciting for you ... in some ways romantic, in some ways, you know, confronting danger. You're really making history, and thanks," Bush said.

So, it appears our young men and women should be grateful to President Bush for giving them this opportunity for excitement and romance! He's even a little envious. I'll have to tell my sisters-in-law to be sure to pass this message along to my nephews in Afghanistan. Any comments?

Sorry to his fans, but I personally think the US President is a nut case.

I would laugh but it's hard to laugh while you're throwing up. OMG. Will Bush never cease to exist? lol
I am sure Mr. DangerMan (aka Mr. President) thinks it is so romantic. That's why Mommie and Daddy kept him at an empty base in the States while everyone else his age were fighting in Viet Nam or hoofing it to Canada.
What is it with his dancing and singing lately? Oh, God, please don't let him go loopy before we get rid of him and Cheney. Then we would have Mr. DarkMan (aka Cheney) in charge instead. :O

What a great response! There's not much more frightening than having Mr. DarkMan in charge, is there, which is exactly why Mr. DangerMan has lasted this long. Nobody would dare try to impeach him or assassinate him knowing that would be the result. Which, for the record, I'm sure not making light of or advocating assassination of anybody anytime!
I guess the Vietnam War wasn't "romantic" enough.

I think that is kind of sick. How can you find it to be romantic. I think he used a very poor choice of words. It really makes it sound like he thinks all the military things make him feel romantic. It sounds awful.

Thanks so much for responding and please tell your son thank you for serving our country from me. No matter what I think about the current Administration or their policies I have nothing but respect and admiration for our troops and I can't make that clear enough. I doubt my two nephews are feeling very romantic right now in Afghanistan, especially the one that just got married a few weeks before he left.

Okay, i see were bush says romantic, BUT i dont believe he means romantinc in a way like brining home flowers and come chocolate home just becasue today is tuesday typa romantic. so there i agree with the guy below, BUT also i do agree with the chick who is aginst what the guy is saying. bush has said numerous dumb things, and i am sure like her he will probally say some more in the future.
I understand hes not perfect. no one is besides god.but d~mnit if your ganna be the leader of a country, your decisions for it better be d~mn near close to perfect. in a situation like this we cant afford anything less.
But no matter were or what bushes send out military to do i support them in most of everything they do:)

I totally support our troops no matter where they're sent, I want to make that clear right form the start. They don't choose their "battles" or assignments. But, do you mean you agree with whatever this Administration does, no matter what?
As for Bush's meaning for "romantic" in his comments, I really don't think he's a deep enough thinker to have meant it as anything other than the most common meaning of romantic. I'm sorry, I just don't!

I kind of have to side with the minority view here about the use of the word "romantic." I think he meant the idea of the brave soldier fighting for people who can't fight for themselves is "romantic" in that it almost sounds like something from a story.
Overanalyzing his use of the word "romantic" takes away from the real hypocrisy of his statement: his supposed desire to be young enough to serve in this war himself, since when he was young enough, he took measures to avoid serving in the war of that time.

I can't wait until that idiot leaves. I don't know how the hell he got elected a second time. No one I know voted for him and I certainly didn't. He is a moron. This is coming from a draft dodger! He had the chance to be as romantic as he wanted when he was younger but he chose to call daddy to get him out of it! Ignorant, idiotic, moron. I hate Bush.

Hi anniepa, Talk is cheap, when you know it's not going to happen. That is how I feel about Those comments. I'm sure there isn't anything exciting or romantic about being brought home in a body bag, especially if you have a wife and small children at home. War is a terrible thing, and if he truly is wanting to help the people of Afghanistan, there are better ways. My guess is he isn't concerned about those people at all. Blessings.

Oh my gosh, that's the most rediculous thing I've ever read! It may be honorable to serve and fight for your country, but not romantic! That's totally absurd. This is the reason I'm glad I don't have a Texas accent. Many sound very uneducated and George Bush saying that only makes people from other states probably think the same thing lol.
I have relatives in Iraq right now and I'm pretty sure they do not think what they are doing is romantic!

Do you not think that dashing into harms way for your family and country is romantic? I mean have you never been part of something bigger than yourself? I totally disagree with you.
Besides if you read something more than liberal nonsense, you might know that chivalry and stuff like that is part of the romantic ideal.
It seems by your comments, that the President is smarter than you comprehend.
