Who does the cooking in your home?

Is it shared by everyone in the home? Is it one day the man of the house and the next the lady of the house? Just wondering as I try to do the cooking, but I have scoliosis and it is difficult for me to stand a while, so I try to do the short stuff. lol You know open a can and heat. My hubby comes home from work and fixes steaks, etc. I really don't mind as he is a real good cook, I just feel like I am letting him down because I can't do certain things I use to do. I know he misses my cooking. What about you, who does all the cooking in your home?

I do 90% of the cooking in the house. Mainly cause I love to cook, not because it's required of me. At times my husband will cook, or we share in the cooking (sort of like a bonding time). With your condition, I can understand as I'm sure your husband does too, that your cooking is limited. If he cooks, and doesn't complain, then I guess in his own little way he is letting you know that he understands and is wanting to take care of you. Don't feel bad for not being able to do the things you once were able to (which I am sure weighs on you). But it seems to me like you have a wonderful husband, take pleasure in knowing that.

Thank you Chey, I appreciate that. It does weigh on me. Like I said I just feel bad that I am not as I use to be, but I know he loves me and wants to take care of me, so that is good enough for me Thanks for replying

I do the cooking every night. My son like to help as best as he can, being 8 years old it is not too much. He peels veggies, gets ingredients out, and opens cans.

I do most of the cooking; however, its great to spend time in the kitchen. Its great to know all the ingredients, as many of the already packaged foods have a lot of items in that make me concerned about what I just ate. My husband will barbecue, but not very often. He would rather go out, than do any cooking. Yesterday he was upset because I refused to go out, so he had canned soup.

We use to go out more but with the cost of everything going up we have scaled back. Plus we were living in a hotel for four months, they did provide dinner three nights a week, so the other nights I would cook with what limited space and supplies I had but we ate out quite a bit. So I think that helped curb our going out when we didn't feel like cooking attitude.

I'm sure your husband understands that your ailment is what's keeping you from cooking more elaborate meals, not your desire to do so. Neither my husband or I work outside the home, but I still do all the cooking. He's told me many times that he wants to take over the kitchen one day a week and that he's a good cook, but I haven't seen it yet. He does do the dishes, though, so I won't complain!

Awwww another one with a hubby that cleans the dishes. lol Mine does when he knows I am really not feeling up to it. But if I keep the dishes up, then there aren't too many to do at dinner. Good Luck with your husband cooking :) Thanks for the reply

My mum does most of the cooking in my home and my BF occasionally. I don't particularly enjoy cooking but will do it if I have to! I just prefer to do the eating!

LOL when you leave home, you need to know a little about cooking. I told my daughter that and she didn't believe me and guess what. She is moving in 3 months and knows very little, but I know she will learn as she goes, she is smart like that Thanks for the reply

Oh I agree with you S. I didn't do a lot of cooking when I was still leaving at home, I was more into baking. So during my first marriage it was trial and error. Hubby #1 didn't like leftovers and he was the type that you couldn't plan meals because he said he wouldn't know what he would want to eat until he came home from work. So we did lots of takeout. Now Bob on the other hand loves to eat and learned how to cook at a young age out of necessity. So when the girls want to help me in the kitchen I let them. It is skill everyone needs. April gets a modified home ec in a couple of weeks and I am anxious to see what they do, since it has been a long time since I was in a home ec class.

Well my boyfriend and I live with my parents. Out of my parents, my mom cooks, my dad doesnt come near the stove. My boyfriend and I will cook at least 3-4 nights a week. He cooks on the grill and I will make the sides. I also use the crockpot, or bake chicken, etc. I think your husband understands your situation. If I were in the same situation, I would hope my boyfriend would understand as well.

icyorchid I am in a very similar situation to you - I do not have scoliosis but I have chronic back problems and there are days I cannot sit never mind stand and cook! My other half also does most of the cooking , my 14 year old son helps out so much too if my partner is on shift! I know exactly what you mean about letting him down but I can guarantee you he does not think that way! Be kind to yourself and love your husband - and let him show you his love without feeling guilty! Hugs xxx

He is a great man and I guess I am hard on myself. Have been for almost 5 years now. My accident happened in 2003. Thanks for the reply

I do 99.9% of it. My wife does some baking around the holidays but meal planning and cooking are not her thing. It was that way before we got married so it's not like I didn't know what I was getting into. I'm creative and adventurous with food, she needs to have a recipe. It's all good, though. I like being in charge of the kitchen.

Up until about two months ago, my husband did the majority of the cooking in the house. I am still recuperating from back surgery. One of the kids would cook at least once a week, but then he did the rest of it. Within the last two months, I've been feeling much better, so I've been doing the cooking more. Now, my husband cooks on Monday nights because I don't get home until almost 7:00, which is a late dinner for us. One of the children still cooks at least once a week, sometimes twice, but the rest are mine. I love it that the kids are finally old enough to be cooking for everyone. It's rather nice.

He understands and I think that you have a great husband that will cook for you. He knows that you help as much as you can. In my household I do all the cooking, cleaning ect. My husband doesn't like to cook, and will not help me. So I count you as one very very lucky lady.

I do! I love cooking for my mom, dad, and brother. I get to pick the meal and make it my own. I'm a very picky eater so it also means that I can leave out whatever I want to. I think I'm a very good cook, but just not as great as baking.

I guess Bob and I share it. LOL He is a great cook, loves to experiment while I cook strictly by the recipe. I don't feel comfortable winging it but he does. I do most of the baking in the house but he does make a wicked apple pie.

The good part is that it is from apples that we grow. The disgusting part is that he can roll out a pie crust perfectly without a rolling pin. Makes me sick.

Everyone gets a trip out of this but who cares it works for us. I'm a SAHM and my hubby cooks us dinner every night unless he doesn't feel like it and then we go out to eat or eat leftovers. My hubby likes to cook and I can't stand to cook. I would cook if I had to but then the deal would be he would have to keep an eye on the kids which he does but I think he would rather cook. He likes teaching my daughter how to cook also.

Since I live with my parents, I normally do the cooking because it's one of my favorite household chores. I get so interested with new recipes and i always try on new flavors and spices as a new experiment. My family loves my cooking. I always make a simple meal for them and it makes me happy knowing that they always look forward to meal time.
