There is a a lot of scrutiny now into whether the conditions that have been "discovered" over the past 40-50 years even are real. There is actually no scientific evidence that there is any organic or physical evidence to show that conditions like ADHD, depression, bi-polarism and the like even exist. However, around 1960, psychiatrist began redefining psychiatry and now, with DMSV we have a whole catalog of psychiatric diseases which require psycho-pharmocological intervention. However, in a recent study, submitted to the FDA, the clinical studies that were conducted in several major medical centers clearly show that there is actually no evidence that SSRI's and antidepressants actually work any better than placebos.s, which are sugar pills. These studies are what are known as double-blind clinical studies. That is, neither the administrators nor the patients know whether they are getting the medicine or the sugar pill. this article is in Public Library of science Journal and the studies were done in the UK, Canada and the USA. The administrators were Drs.Irving kirsch, Brett J. Deacon, Tania B. Huedo-Medina, Alan Scorboria,Thomas Moore,Blair T. Jackson. So, if you're taking these meds, you might want to consider slowly weaning yourself off.

I agree that there are too many people using psychiatric medications. I have been on and off them for many years. I know that when I have been on them that I was generally a lot calmer and could function well. When I would go off them, I would be ok for a while and then I would start becoming more irritable over time. I have been off since I came to China, but at times I wonder if I should go back on. I have never participated in a study, but I think that for some things they are good. I will probably stay away from the psychotropics from now on, but if I ever had a recurrence of my cancer, I might participate in a trial to see if a new medication works better than the old ones.
