I can't quite make myself avoid candy at these holidays. I'd feel like a Scrooge. I try to include raisins or nuts, but you can't completely avoid the sweets.

well my son is not having a party in school. it really upsets me but they don't have them cuz not everyone believes in the different holidays. i remember when i was litle we always looked forword to them but the kids around here don't get to.
at home we put different little candies in the eggs we hide for the kids to find. they don't really get any candy in their baskets so all the candy they get is whats in the eggs.

When my daughter was young I would send her to school with lunches she liked. I would make her a sandwich, maybe fruit cup and yes a desert. I do not feel that you have to totally take away all sweets to keep your child healthy. I think that as a parent we should make sure that there is a balance of fruit and vegitables as well as junk food. It seems when you make something forbidden it just peaks their interest even more and could lead to eating disorders.
My daughter is very healthy and she is now seventeen and decides what she wants to eat for lunch. She likes the grinola bars however, if you look closely at those so called health bars you will se they are loaded with salt. So I guess healthy is not all that healthy. Don't be fooled by the words low fat and fat free because for the most part if they are low in fat they are high in something else.
In truth everything you eat is bad for you. Everything you eat will make you gain weight. So the only way to stop all this over eating and unhealthy food is to ban eating all together. Ok now that that is said lets be real. In theory you should be able to eat what ever tastes good if it is high in calories or salt or sugar you just have to eat in moderation.
I am a plus size woman. I am very happy with me. I eat what I like when I like. My daughter is not a plus size woman. She eats well and she tries to watch the chocolate but she likes it so who cares.
I have heard that in Canada you can not send any sweets to school with your child no matter what. I think that is going overboard. They are kids and kids burn up a lot of energy and a little candy is not going to hurt. A lot of candy may.
Sorry for the rant. I did send candy to school with my daughter and if she wants to take it to school today I let her. I also make a good dinner with vegies and fruits so that it balances out the sugar.

When my daughter was in elementary school, I used to put bubble gum or Hershey Kisses inside the plastic egg. you could also put change in them too. I have done that a few times also.

My son is bringing some chocolate and suckers to school with him the last day before Easter break. I am not putting them in the plastic eggs. He is going to take them in little Easter bags. They only get a 4 day weekend, so it is not really much of a break.
