What do you think about leaf blowers?

I live in an apartment building surrounded by a bunch of other apartment buildings. Every day, someone is blowing a leaf blower around. The property next door is very large, so I hear blowers around for hours! When they do my apartment complex's property, they blow dust and dirt all over my car. I hear they also pollute a lot.
So, what does everyone else think about leaf blowers? Are there some good points to using them other than not having to use a broom?

i hate them.i have a neighbor who uses his whenever he fights with his wife,he'll be out there for hours with it.it even sets off my smoke alarm inside the house with the gas fumes,so now i have to close the window when he starts up.

Yeah, that's how it is around my place. We have three separate apartment complexes that all use them on different days.

If there are any good points I certainly cannot think what they might be. They create horrible noise pollution, kick up the dirt and dust and germs and just spread the stuff from one area to another. Now if they sucked the debris up and removed it from the area that would be different. I loathe and detest them, and yes, the horrible gas smell permeates everything. If there are any good points surely they are vastly outweighed by the bad ones.

Yeah, I know. After I posted this discussion, I went out to my car and they had blown dust all over it! I had spent a couple of hours yesterday washing and waxing my car and it was all covered with dirt! Luckily, it was easy to brush off due to the wax I put on it.

Yeah, I guess it could result in fewer man-hours and therefore less payroll.
