Higher water is on the way..— While we had 3 or 4 inches of rain locally the past two days, areas of southern Missouri and Illinois had twice that much. The heavy rain in such a short time swelled the Meramec and other rivers, such as the Big River. Anyone else effected by a flood?Or have survived one?

Yes. I am in southern Indiana and it is flooded here also. there are alot of homes and businesses under water right now. School was closed due to the flooding also. It is still cresting in alot of areas and the flood will get worse. We are due to have more rain this week also.

Here in southeast Missouri we got well over 4 inches. I think we got that the first day it rained. I am not sure what the total number was, but it was crazy how much rain we got. My son's school closed for 2 1/2 days because of the rain. Some of the teachers the first day had to drive 30 miles north and then 30 miles south instead of 30 miles west to get home because of roads being closed due to the flooding.

It is the same here in my town when it rains for a few days and I can see the small river not far away from my apartment rising, but it has never flooded over the bank to our building. I am lucky that we can always survive a flood.

I have, fortunately enough, never been a part of a big flood. Once I was a part of a small flood. My dad took me canoing on a day when the water level was high. It was a bit tough getting home and I got pretty sick from being immersed in all that water. Flooding brings up all sorts of health risks. Mold and mildew are only one. Septic tank contents being flushed up with floodwaters is a more nasty one to consider.
