Do you or other members of your home like to go hunting? What do you hunt for? What do tools do you utilize for the hunt? Have you been successful? ----- I have hunted for morrel mushrooms with no success. my tools were my eye glasses and a mushroom guide booklet. my father loved to bow hunt and was quite good bringing us lovely venison for the freezer he also used 30 ought 6 (sp) and shot guns... he hunted deer, squirrel, rabbit - I think he would have loved to have gone caribou hunting. He was also an avid fishing man - enjoying ice fishing, bass fishing from the boat, fly fishing and just lazy afternoons fishing with the kids.

My father and grandfather have always hunted. We live in a fairly rural community and they both enjoy both deer and turkey hunting, in their respective seasons. (Squirrels, too, but that's getting to be less for some reason. I suppose because both are getting older and don't feel like working so hard for such little payout.) I got a hunting license when I was in middle school (and took a hunters education course, learning how to shoot and carry weapons, caring for them, etc.) and went hunting with him several times. Once I hit high school I kind of lost interest, though. I was a huge tomboy in elementary and middle schools, but I got slightly more girly when I entered high school, which I guess is what usually happens. (I was always too weak to actually be able to harm anything with my bow, though I still enjoy shooting it at the targets we have when the weather is nice.) Despite these little setbacks, I still rather enjoy fishing. I don't really do it often, though, due to us being more in the woods than near any sort of water.

My first husband was a hunter but he didn't like to eat the venison. I had a problem with this, I feel that if you are going to hunt it you should eat it. So we always wound up donating to a family through our church. Current hubby is a weekend crabber. Here in Maryland he catches Chesapeake Blue Crabs. We steam these, eat some, share some, and then pick the rest to make crabcakes or crab soup to freeze for winter. We have a friend who went caribou hunting and loved it.

Oh I'm jealous! That sounds so delicious! My family used to visit Maryland when my brother was attending college there. We'd stop at the Inner Harbor in Baltimore and we'd get the steamed shrimp. MMMM! I use Chesapeake Bay Seafood Seasoning at home on shrimp and tuna. It tastes almost like the stuff on that steamed shrimp.

Where did your brother go to school? You probably visited Phillips Seafood. McCormick Old Bay is the best seasoning. My brother works for McCormick so we always have it around. I love steamed shrimp, also. If we ever move to South Carolina then hubby will start shrimping instead.

Sorry not a hunter, but I use to be able to shoot a bow and arrow quite well. I learned to shoot in 4-H and did some competitions. Its been a long time since I have done any shooting.

No I'm not a hunting person... I am a horrible shot and can't hit the side of a barn. I have lived both in the city and 'in the woods' and have experienced both lifestyles but never got into the hunting 'thing'. Thanks Zelo

Hi Modestah.. The title of your discussion enticed me to check it. It reminds me of the children song I used to sing together with my nephew in the Philippines. It put a smile on my face =) My boyfriend loves to hunt. He and his family once in a week go hunting for wild ducks or birds. There were times I went hunting with them. The women of the group do not actually hunt, we just wait for the men and do the cooking for lunch. Its a way to bond with his family and I enjoyed it so much though its a long way of travel and very tiring.
