For me, i always turn off my pc before go to sleep. It can be on the whole day until the time i go to sleep. If i leave house, i even leave my pc still stand by... and internet is still working...ahaha. My electricity already count one as the payment for the apartment rental, so i have no prob with electricity. My internet connection is unlimited and monthly payment around 1000pesos per month for 24 hours day... so i have no prob with my internet account since i already paid it. heheh...

While I do have to pay for the electricity, I leave my computer on because I want to be able to access it as soon as I get in, or if I dash in for something else, or if my geek wants to remotely access it.

I never turn off my computer. It runs constantly. I'm surprised the thing hasn't crashed on me yet...

According to MY geek, leaving the computer running is actually less stressful on the hard drive than starting and shutting it down all the time - of course there are times that you have to do so, lap tops and stuff, but far better to just let it "go to sleep."

Yes I do, but most of the time though it's on when I want to download a large file. Well, not only do I turn off my pc after using it just because I want to save electricity, but also because I don't want to end up overheating it. My pc, tends to get sluggish after using it when it's used by a large amount of time. So for me, as much as possible... when I am not using it, I try to turn it off.

I agree, it can get overheated and the one computer in our house that is on all the time gets very slow compared to the other computers! I think it has to be restarted at least once a day to work properly and needs time to rest!

it depends. if i'm not using it anymore then i'll just turn it off. most of the time i'll just leave it on even if i'm not using it because my computer is busy downloading stuff. i have unlimited broadband connection too so it's okay

I do turn off the computer when it is not in use. Not only do I save electricity, I also prolong the life of my computer. Leaving it on for a long time causes the hardware to be overworked, and can leave you with a fried processor or worse, the motherboard. I think you should practice turning off any appliance not in use. Just because you find it affordable, it doesn't mean you should take advantage of your resources. Just my 2 cents :)

I have to agree with you! We had a brand new computer, bought in 2003, in December, it was an e machine, and after leaving it on 24/7 for about 3 or 4 years, it quit working! Nobody seemed to know why it stopped, but I am sure it was ruined from being left on 24/7 like that! It also makes for a huge electric bill! We have to pay 200 dollars a month attimes, and I do think the bill went up after we started using computers! Before we had computers, we had television and it was on 24/7, but we did not pay more than 100 dollars a month for electricity! The webtv did not use as much electricity either, as it would also turn itself off (like standby) if it was not used for more than ten minutes!

the only times when I didn't turn off my computer when I was away, were when I was still inside the same building / house / office for a couple minutes. when I went to sleep or when I left the house / office / building, I would make sure that all the electronics were turned off. It would save my money, and, it would prevent any unwanted things happen towards the place I left (sometimes we just couldn't believe the safety of any electronic product, especially there were certain products easily got burned if we kept it on too long).

The only time the computer in my house is turned off is when there is a power outage, or I'm restarting it. We just never turn it off, because it gets annoying waiting for it to turn on (it is extremely slow). However, when we go away for a long time (a week or more usually), we will always turn it off.

i always turn my pc off whenever not in use so as to save on electricity bills and at the same time protect my pc from unauthorized use. besides there is no use to keep my pc on when i am not using it.

My computer is on from when I get back from taking the kids school right until I go to bed! I do not turn it off everytime I leave the house unless I know I am going to be out for a few hours! I really hate having to turn it off.

I leave my PC turned on almost all day. It is turned off only during the night. I don't turn it off because if I don't use it, my sister does, or my brother :P . I just turn off the monitor, but I think I would put it to hibernate from now on, for power saving :)

Both of my computers are on for 24 hours per day. I use them on a regular basis and see very little point in switching them off when I expect to be switching them back on before long. I do realise the cost of running a computer permanently, but the expense is not sufficient to concern me unduly.

I would love to leave my internet on but the internet company I am joined with has a window that pops up about every 4 hours and it asks me if I want to stay on line and if I do not answer it quick enough, it will sing me off. I have unlimited access each month also so I do not know why it does that. It drives me crazy though.

If I leave the house, I put it off. But if I'm home and even if I'm sleeping, it's turned on. I lay it open for my friends to get in touch with me anytime as long as I'm home. If I'm at the office, I also turned it on even if I'm not using it so i can see email alerts and can reply to them at once. Sometimes, I make it a point to reply only when I'm home. It's a busy schedule at the office.

I turn mine off at work but they hubby lets all of ours run at home 24/7. He will just turn off the monitor. But, I like to have mine off at work while I am not there. Although, there is something wrong with our servers router and I am having a hard time getting my computer to find the router when I turn it back on in the am. I know this because my hubby is a computer genius and he helped me figure that much out. So, now it is about getting our computer fix it guy to come out here and...well...fix it. So, I might leave my computer on when I leave this weekend and just turn the monitor off. I haven't decided yet. My concern is if we have any power outages but, that can happen any time of the day and, we leave the server on all the time too. So, I will probably just leave my machine running this weekend.

We do. We have had storms that have knocked out our power during regular office hours so, I think we will be fine. I just hate leaving my computer on all weekend!
