Itchy Ears, dry flaky skin...

I have had extreme problems with itchy ears and dry skin that flakes from them for the past two months now. I have not used any new soaps or shampoos that may cause this. What can cause this, and is there anything I can do to remedy this? It is becoming very annoying and embarrassing as the flaky dry skin just comes out and I find it on my shoulder sometimes. Can anyone give me ideas on what causes this and what I can do? Does this happen to anyone else? thanks.

I am afraid i have had this problem for two years and tried all the medicines associated with eczema and psoriasis( to which i believe this is related) but nothing has worked and only recently the itching has exacerbated the problem. I mention this only as a caution against the expectation of a cure. I will try eucrin cream but i suspect it will only be a cosmetic remedy for something I may just have to live with. I will watch this space and gladly and willingly be proved wrong.

Try a natural salve or balm that is beeswax based and has healing properties such as salveation by mama nature. I used to suffer from dry ears that itched so much it would drive me round the bend. I use this a) because it works and b) because i can use it every day without having to worry about side effects. It has made the dry skin in my ears a distant memory and i would urge you to at least give it a try. Nothing ventured nothing gained as they say.

It seems like it can be due to the dry cold weather. Drink plenty of water. We tend to ignore water as we hardly feel thirsty during winter. But if the situation persists during the summer you better consult a good dermatologist.

Thank you, yes I do think it is due to the weather because the past few days have been warmer and the problem seems less irritating. I have also been using some lotion I think is helping. If the problem comes back I will ask my doctor for a referral to a good dermatologist, that is a great idea. Thanks for your post.

I don't have itchy ears but I do have very dry flaky skin. I use the same soap also but I do not use enough lotion to rehydrate my skin. I have found that if use lotion after showering, it stops my skin from flaking so much.

Yes, I use lotion everywhere else, I don't know why I never thought to use it in my ears. I will try that and I hope it helps with the itching as well as the flaking. Thanks for your post.

I think its because of the cool weather. I have problems with painful red patches of irritated skin. I highly highly highly recommend Eucerin. Its the best over the counter cream you can get. Use it after the shower and it should help you very shortly. Best of luck to you.

I do use Eucerin cream but I never thought to put it in my ears. I don't know why, but I did when I showered this morning and the itching is gone. The dry skin has softened and is easy to get rid of now. Thanks for your advice, I'll keep using the Eucerin and hopefully this will clear up soon; I've been waiting to get my hair cut again, I usually wear it short but I was letting it grow to keep my ears covered. It'll be nice to have it short again. :)

This happens to me sometimes. I don't have any ideas why it happens, but I have noticed it happening more during the winter than summer. I try to remember to put lotion on my ears(and even inside them) as I am getting out of the shower. For some reason I don't tend to put lotion on my ears like I do on other parts of my body.

Thanks for your response. I've never really thought about putting lotion in my ears until I found this problem. I will start doing so and hopefully that will help with the itching as well. It did seem to creep about during winter. I have eczema and my daughter does as well, so maybe it just spread to my ears. My daughter gets the dry skin on the outside of her earlobe, but not inside her ears. Thanks again.

I also have this dry skin in my ears. There is also a ridge that runs from both ears around the back hair line that has flakey skin. I started losing hair on my head in other spots. I went to the dermatoligist. He said I had an immune system disease. I am also diabetic. My hair has come back. Nothing I have tried will get rid of the dry skin in my ears and the ridge of dry skin along my back hair line.
