$1000 Dollar Shower

Its shocking how much it can cost for a shower, as the plumber came today, as the water wouldn't go down in the shower stall. The ad read reasonable prices, but clearly I don't think that was a reasonable price. Has anyone else paid $1000 just to fix the plumbing in the shower stall? Last year my bathroom sink needed help and that only cost $135.00 to solve the problem. I did use a different plumber; however, that plumber wasn't available. I think plumbing school should be my next school. They make a lot for an hour of work! Its clear I majored in the wrong subject.

WOW that is very expensive! I would want a detailed list of what they did. I mean to unclog a drain, come on!

That is a lot if that is ALL they did. I feel there was a more underlying problem that just wasn't explained before the work was performed. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

It was expensive and I needed a soda after paying the bill. Also ordered fried chicken, as its just not my day. I decided was just going to eat and drink everything that is bad for me today. Thanks both of you for responding.

WoWza!!! I just paid 1144.64 for the plumbing in my car though. I would think for that thousand you can have a whole new EVERYTHING installed! how much is this guy charging for the house call? I am thinking getting another estimate? do you have a snake that you can coil down there and see what is holding things up? it may just be a lot of hair and soap residue.

Did you pay this? Personally, if it was me, I would be out there looking for a second opinion, and refuse to pay something like this to get a Shower fixed, as this does sound a little outrageous. Plus if it was me, unless I personally knew the person doing the work, I would make sure that they are Licensed and Bonded by a reputable company for this type of work as there are a lot of Crooks out there. Good Luck with this.

OMG--- Are you serious- $1000 to fix the plumbing in your shower... Did you get all new lines and a new shower as well? I am not a plumber either-- but it might be something I want to do for those rates. I haven't had to call a plumber ever-- and I hope I do not have to with it costing so much- I'm so glad that my sig other is Mr Fix-it!

Wait, he seriously charged you $1000 just to snake the drain? No climbing under the house or tearing out floors? Did he even replace a bit of pipe, at least? I've had a plumber dig down three feet and cut out and replace a section of sewage pipe and that only cost me $350. I would call around to a couple other plumbers and describe the work done and see how much they would charge for the same thing. If their prices are much lower, you should go back to your plumber and ask for some of the money back. And if he didn't quote you a price before he did the work, he is even more in the wrong. I would also consider reporting him to the B.B.B Good Luck.

He replaced a small piece of pipe and the washers. I know they can charge more during a holiday weekend, but that seems like more than anyone should expect. I did call three other places and none of them could come out today. My husband didn't want to wait until Monday. I think we would have been charged a lot less on Monday.
