I came across this in a magazine called Reminisce. Wow look at how much some things costed back in the day. A Few Prices: * Annual income $1,259.00 * Man's dress shirt $1.39 * Large Eggs 45 Cents a dozen * Floor wax 39 cents a pint * Ground beef 2 pounds for 29 cents * Linoleum 22 cents a square yard * Gasoline 20 cents a gallon * Bacon 18 cents a pound * Lemons 11 cents a dozen * Potatoes 10 cents for 3 pounds * Toilet paper 6 cents for 2 rolls * Yeast 3 cents a cake * First-class stamp 3 cents * Daily newspaper 2 cents * Split peas 1 cent for 2 pounds Don't we all wish we could see prices like that again?

Holy Moly, I'll say I wish we could see prices like that again..what a comparison.. Then Large Eggs 45 cents versus now something like $1.99 near me. Ground beef is now like $2.00 a pound A stamp a mere 3 cents?? Potatoes are also about $1.99 for 5 pounds now And what a laugh about toilet paper! 6 cents for TWO rolls then???--Cheapest is Marcal for 79 cents for one roll But I guess in those days things were considered just as expensive...I mean if one's annual income was only $1,259 then the costs of everything was kind of relative to now..no??

Right , but back then they did'nt have to pay a cable bill, or cell phone bill, high gas & light bills, high car insurance bills( thanks to all the wonderful drivers out there today ) not to mention all the other added expenses we have these days. There are more things added everyday to the cost of living now . Things were more simple back then I guess....

It really makes you think doesn't it? 20 cents then verses $3.45 a gallon now for gasoline. I still freak out when my mom tells me 'price stories' from when she was growing up. LOL

My mom used to tell me the same thing, about the prices of things that used to be. I blame it on the goverment, they are worse than us woman when it comes to spending money. Wow I can remember back in the day going to the corner store to pick up a pack of ciggs for my mom ( when it was still ok), and they only costed 50 cents a pack. Now they are like almost $5 a pack?, Not sure on that one, as I roll my own. I shudder to think about what the future will bring for all of us.

Wow what a difference. The people back then also had so much less things to worry about too. I remember my grandparents and parents telling me how the landlords would beg you to rent one of their apartments and now you need a credit check - that is if you can even afford the apartment these days.

Yes, as long as our annual income wasn't $1,259.00. That is about an average weeks wages now. If we made what we make now and had those prices we could probably buy a house with one pay check!
