Are we just lazy?

I answered a post on how pregnant women get to park a little closer to the store simply because they are pregnant. I got to thinking... How as time passes by more things are invented to make our lives easier, right? Or is it that we are just that lazy??? I mean the clap on clap off light thing prevented us from getting our butts off our seats to turn off the light. Or how about drive-thrus? We used to haves 2 walk in the pharmacy for our weigth-loss prescriptions not we just have to drive around to a pick up window. Now we even have tooth brushes that do the brushing for us! We just have to hold on to the thing. In reality these things were meant to facilitate our busy lives, but really I think this has just made us plain ol' lazy. What's your take on all this?

I agree with you. People really do not need to drive to the stoe 500 meters away. I remember that I was really shocked when I lived in the countryside in the US for one year in the 80s. people drove everywhere. When the combine broke down 300 meters down the road someone had to drive down there to get the combine driver. Where I lived we would walk to school or work - 5 km every day. And that was the norm. Now life here is just like I experienced in the 80s in the US. No wonder people need to pay alot of money to work out at the gym. No wonder that more and more people need operations because of obesity. People need to move more while doing everyday things. Pregnant women are not disabled. They can walk just as well as other well people - unless there is something special going on that makes walking hard.

Thank you! I'm not saying that some of these things aren't effective and useful. I just think we have just abused some things. I like what you said about the gym so true. I'll be the first to admit I use some of these things but some of these other inventions are just kind of ridiculous. My respect to pregnant women (I was there once) but it doesn't hurt to walk a little :)

i think it has definitely made our lives easier and thus would seem that it would make us lazier. However, I still admire that people can come up with inventions to make our lives easier. It shows that we as a human race is progressing . Imagine if we are still stuck in the stone age! Although advances in technology do entail some negative effects, we cannot disregard the greater good it has given us. If you feel like you become lazy by using certain services and technology, then you should avoid them or try to do other stuff that will make you have more exercise =)

True as well. We are online as we speak because of a great invention. But sometimes I just feel like inventions are just way too much. I'm not going to lie and say I never use any of these things but it just got me thinking how these basic-make-life-easier products has simply made us lazy. Thanks for your input.

I don't think inventions here are making us lazy. On the contrary, I would rather say that the beneficial actually goes beyond making our lives easy and convenient. Inventions like the electric toothbrush, razors and the likes not only brings about the convenience but the quality of correct brushing and safe shaving and imagine the speed of doing the chore. I feel that these qualities are beneficial not only to our personal well being but at the same time provides us with the capability to complete our task with greater efficiency and speed. And this will bring about having more time for ourselves and gives us the chance of better time management.

Hi cadri4n! I think people now are becoming to be a bit busy than before. They want to accomplish many thing in a little time. This explains why we want thing to be automated and loves to cook "instant" food. But in the process, we lose some things beneficial to our health. People before us experience less illnesses because they tend to do a lot of physical activity to get things done. They also live healthy because they would opt to cook healthy food than just cooking instant foods. Yeah, you may be right. Our lifestyle nowadays have really changed. We want to accomplish many things but oddly it makes us also "lazy".

I agree with you. I've become more and more lazy over the years with all this new stuff. Especially my laptop, oh my goodness! I go all over the place with it, and at times I just sit in bed with it and watch tv at the same time. I don't drive, but I do agree with you on the drive-thrus. We go to drive-thrus all the time, whether its to get something to eat, pick up a prescription, or we even have drive-thru dry cleaning pick up here! It's getting rediculous, but at the same time, more convenient. I think some of it may be a health risk though, as obesity is increasing rapidly every year.

I have no problem giving a pregnant woman a spot closer to the store, in fact we should give up half the handicap spaces to them, they go unused in most places. As a person with a handicap plate, bad knees, and a messed up back walking is hard when its cold. I seldom use the spots because I think most handicap drivers are idiots when it comes to driving and want to stay as far away from them as possible. That special license plate means you get a good parking spot, not that you can be an inferior driver. I used to take water aerobics at the local community college for a variety of reasons, part of it was the exercise, part of it was to socialize with young women in bathing suits, especially the ones that weren't there for weight loss reasons. Inevitably the fattest people in the class would always be ;ate because they would drive around for half an hour looking for a parking spot. While granted sometimes it was hard to find one, but there was always one if you were willing to walk to your exercise class.

I don't drive so none of that makes me lazy. If I can't get a bus to it, I have to walk, so I can't say it's made me lazy at all. I think in some instances, like drive thrus, it saves congestion in car parks and such, don't you? As for pregnant women, I think they have a lot of extra weight to carry and when they have their child, it's nice to be able to wheel them easily into the supermarket. I don't begrudge them a closer parking space. Brightest Blessings.
