Over 40 years ago my siblings and my Mum and I stayed at a guesthouse while on holidays. It was autumn and breakfast was porridge served with creamy warm milk straight from the cow. After we had been there a while and us kids had learned our way about I was down at the milking shed one morning when Betsy was being brought in to be milked. I was asked if I'd like to have a go. I was 13 and willing to have a go. I wiped the teats and udder with a damp cloth and proceeded to manipulate the teats so the milk went into the bucket. I could only do one at a time while the cow man could do two. He showed me how the milk was separated from the cream in the separator and then I went in to breakfast and had my porridge with the milk I had got from Betsy. I was pretty pleased with myself.

I have never milked kind of animal. I do not even like to drink milk, so I would not really be motivated to milk something. Have you milked anything?

when I was a child I tried unsuccessfully to milk a cow. I also do not like milk but do use it in cooking.

This farm gal sure has done a lot of milking.I worked milking cows after school for two years. My family had goats, cows and sheep. We had to milk our animals before going to school and after I finished my cow milking job, then I would go home to do the milking.

I used milking machines where I worked, as there were over 100 cows. Milked by hand at home, but we only had a couple to milk.

I have. I have milked a cow before. I used to help a friend of mine after school. We would go to her familys farm and milk the cows. Of course it was all done by machine but I was curiouse to see how it was done the old fashion way. So she showed me. Its not actually that hard to do and isnt gross at all. My favorite part is getting to drink the warm milk. Warm fresh cows milk is so much better than what you get in a store. It is fresh and clean and has nothing in it like preservitives. We would collect all the milk in a big tank and before we went home we got to take a gallon. We would drink some and make butter with the rest. Which is SO much better than store butter. I would actually like to take my kids there and show them how to milk a cow and have them try the fresh milk.

I used to love the smell of the milk room all that stainless steel glistening and the warm milk - it was really unique. I have had a couple daisy churns in the past and loved to make homemade butter - now I only have a plunger type stoneware churn - but cream is too expensive in the stores to purchase for making our own butter anymore. would love to get a milk animal to make cheese and butter

When I was 4 or 5, my aunt and uncle bought a farm. They had some cows, and my cousins took me out to the barn and showed me how to milk a cow. They were teasing me, telling me that if they had a brown cow, they could get chocolate milk. I remember that the milk we got from the cows ended up on the table for dinner, along with fresh baked blueberry pie. I thought the milk tasted pretty good after it sat in the fridge long enough to get cold. Now, my brother has some dairy cows, but he has machinery to milk them. A few times, the system broke down temporarily, and he had to get some family members to come out to help milk the cows. My nieces and nephews will not drink the fresh milk, they think it's gross.

No, I never have milked anything unless you count pumping bre@st milk for my son. ;) I don't use any animal products so I'm not really interested in getting animal milk for any reason. I've heard it's a little tricky though so I'm not sure I'd be successful if I tried.

I was born and grow up in a city. So it's impossible for me to milk any animals before. I can see these animals in the zoo only.

No, I haven't. I've heard it's not as easy as it looks. I guess there's a particular way you have to pull or something. I'd like to try, just to see if I could!
