Do you eat Banana Chips?

I love banana chips and I try to eat them every week. I can eat them both with sugar and without. When I eat them without sugar, they taste like potato chips. I would post a picture of them, but I ate off of mine and don't feel comfortable to use someone else's photo.

I do like banana chips, especially the unsweetened variety - they kind of remind me of my favorite snack as a little girl - my mother would fry up some plantain (hope I spelled that right, the green banana looking fruit and not the weed) slices and salt them - oh man were they ever so good! I do not like eating a banana though, it is likely one of my least favorite fruits to consume. do you dehydrate your own? I would like to as sometimes the ones at the healthfood store are flash fried and carry too many fat grams for my son to enjoy.

You're welcome. I actually posted the discussion three weeks ago, but marked it BR yesterday. I like to wait a little while on most of my discussions before I give out BR.

Yeah, the unsweetened ones taste like plantains. I don't salt them, though. I don't dry my own because I can't really afford a dehydrator, nor do I have space to put one. I tried to find one, last Christmas, when I had a Wal Mart gift card, but Wal Mart doesn't sell them.

thank you for marking my answer with the BR. this is just now showing up on my list and I got the notification to my email this morning - yet the post declares you marked it 3 weeks ago.... I don't understand that.

Bananas are so healthy and I want to like them, but am sort of a fair weather friend to bananas for some reason. There are days when I really want to eat a banana in any form, and other days when I have a hard time even taking one bite. Hubby eats a fresh one every morning. The dried ones seem to taste a little less starchy if they have sugar added, but then they are candy, and since I limit the amount of candy I eat, my choice would be chocolate! When I do eat dried bananas I like dried dates with them as they are naturally sweet.

You can get them without sugar, but the taste very starchy, like plantains. I think they're fried in coconut oil, but I'm not sure. I know the fat content is not all that high, so it must not be a lot of oil.

Oops, I don't think they're fried, but dried and coated because they sure don't look fried, but are definitely dried.

I love banana chips also. I purchased some online before and believe me they did not need sugar. They were great. Here is the link for the ones that I purchased. http://www.amazon.com/Harmony-Foods-Banana-Chips-4-Ounce/dp/B000CMIXPA/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=grocery&qid=1206505632&sr=8-2

Hi. Thanks for answering. Usually, they are very starchy unless there's some kind of added sugar on them. Perhaps they might have a different drying technique when they make theirs that keeps the sugar in. Perhaps, also, they don't have oil on them, too. The calories are the same as what I eat, though.

banana chips are my fav too. they r so tasty. the bad news is that it is high in carb. chips are high in fat and calories. you should totally eliminate them from your diet. try fresh fruits for a snack instead!

Thanks. I already eat a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables. In fact, I mostly eat a whole foods diet with almost no processed foods at all. But, in fact, too much fruit isn't good for you already. I rarely eat any type of snack whatsoever and don't believe that you should totally deprive yourself of eating a treat now and then.

Gosh, I saw this discussion and remembered these yummy little things! As much as I love banana chips...I don't like to eat bananas themselves! I haven't had some of these in ages though and now I got to go out and get me some! MMM

Yeah, I just got finished coming home from the store and eating them. My store sells them in bulk and they can be sweetened or unsweetened. The unsweetened ones remind me of fried plantains.

Unfortunately our store does not have them in bulk, just little packages and I like the sweetened variety myself. Another thing I like alot is the dried pineapple pieces too.

banana chips is so famous in my country coz banana trees just grow in every corner. it is usually fried but a lot of people dehydrate it instead so that it remains pure and healthy.I don't care how it's made as long as it's crunchy!

I'm the same way. I don't care how they're made as long as they're crunchy and taste good.

I have eaten banana chips, not by themselves but in a trailer mix or something like that. I would prefer them unsweetened, because they have a natural sweetness and I do not like anything that sweet. I have not had any that tasted like potato chips, but I have not had any salted either. I do not eat them as much because most of the time it is at a wedding or baby shower, that only happens now and again or if we want something to eat on a road trip.

I don't eat mine salted, either. I don't even eat potato chips with much salt. But, the unsweetened kind is not sweet but is very starchy like a potato chip, that's why I like using them as a side to sandwiches, etc.

Hi, desertdarlene. I have tasted them certain times in my life. I have some banana chips in my fruit and nut mix. They are very sweet and crunchy. It brings out the nutty flavor in the nuts.

Thanks for answering. I don't eat them too much anymore because I was getting headaches sometimes.

Hi Desertdarlene, I have eaten banana chips a few times. However, I do not like them too much. I instead prefer Lays' Chips with flavors like American style Cream and Onion, Indian style Masala, Spanish tomato etc.
