With regard to weight, how many people consider themselves small eaters, yet are big on weight? Do you have an iodine allergy, and hve you had your thyroid checked? It may mean a 16 hour fast, and if you feel tired all the time, it may be amatter of having it checked more than once.
Anyone here been diagnosed with the undractive thyroid, put on medication and had it help?

I was not asked to fast when they had taken my TSH, FT3 and FT4. I have an overactive thyroid, actually its toxic because it produced 7 times higher than the normal t3 and t4 and tsh is really very low. Now that its getting controlled, I'm gaining weight and my endocrinologist said that I might gain more as I continue my medication.
I am taking metronidazole to control my thyroid. Some patients with underactive thyroid are taking the same medicine and also some are using PTU which is less effective and very bitter pill.

Which are you allergic to? Is it iodine or seafoods? Have you tried plants rich in iodine? I heard one native plant here in the Philippines that is used in treating goiter or underactive thyroid in the Mountain Province but the problem is, they did not tell the English name of the plant, they did not even mention the scientific name. I think it was a kind of spinach but I don't really know if it is indeed a spinach.
Aside from PTU and metronidazole, I tried using strumazole (thiamizole) for two weeks.

Allergic to iodine, and shellfish, and any other type of food it might be in. Unfortunately, - spuds are good with it, but I end up having some digestive problems afterwards with them. Doesnt stop me from eating some things though, the price afterwards is discomfort.

Hi Phlamingho! I easily gets tired and my heart palpitates then. My grandmother noticed a small lump in my throat so I was forced to see a doctor. I also lost a lot of weight for a short period of time. Those, they say, are the symptoms of hyperactive thyroid. Better have yours checked.

I've heard about thyroid problems being a problem with weight gain/loss but never really considered it as a possibility for me. I was checked out for diabeted because I am often constantly tired but no one ever suggested thyroid problems. Maybe it's because I'm too young for doctors to think of that sort of thing. I do have real trouble controlling my weight. I try to eat healthy (with an odd naughty snack here and there of course!) and I get plenty of exercies considering I walk miles as a hobby and my job involves lots of walking and carrying, etc. so I really get frustrated that I still don't seem to be losing weight (although some people think I look like I have!)
Thank you for putting this. I might go to the doc and get myself checked out. Then again, our docs are so useless I'd be better off performing liposuction on myself!
