When I used to get my kids at school to colour eggs for Easter, I would use food colourings. First the kids would wrap masking tape, or put blu tac on an area. Then you dip the egg in the food colouring. After it dries, you peel off the masking tape or blu tac, & you are left with interesting white shapes with a coloured background.

We used to do them with my painting tin I had for school with all the wee blocks of pint and the brush in a wee place of ots own at the bottom of the tine ( a few years ago now) and I would go to the local swing park built on a hill and roll it all the way down , I used to peel it and eat muck and grass , I never thought anything about getting ill from it , Thanks for bringing back nice memories pal xx

Do you mean to say that after you painted it, you then rolled it down the hill, & broke your lovely art work, just to eat it?

I never thought of masking eggs in those ways. Thanks. The last year or so I have done very little in the way of coloring eggs. I will remember those things next year.

It's teaching technique, one of those little things that primary teachers often know.

Nothing wrong with using a purchased kit for decorating eggs. The kids love them.
