When we used to have television we would now and again watch David Letterman - and one of his crew (I think her name was stephanie) would come out once in a while and ask a guest a question... her question was always the same and the very question I am going to put forth to you now.....
so,
Have you Seen or Touched any Monkeys?

I don't know why, but this sounds a bit like a trick question!
I've never touched any monkeys, but I have seen them. As a matter of fact I just saw some today when my family and I went to the zoo.

Same here! The last time I went to the zoo was when I was 12 or 13 years old, so it has been ages for me as well! Neither of my kids have ever been to the zoo either, before today! And they will be 11 and 8. How sad is that?
My husband and I did try to take them a couple of months ago or so, but we made the mistake of going on a weekend and it was so crowded we couldn't find a single place to park! So we eventually gave up on the idea and went out to eat instead. Lucky for us, the zoo is about 20 minutes away, so it's not far at all. But as we were a one vehicle family for some time it was impossible to ever go anywhere, even the zoo. But since we now have a second car (and one that all of us can fit into) we plan on going to the zoo again. As a matter of fact, my husband and I just bought a yearly membership so we can go all the time, if we want too! Though I don't know if [i]that[i/] will happen as the zoo we went too isn't the best, but it has definitely gotten bigger and better since the last time I went!
3 hours one way is a long trip, but I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that your husband will agree to take your daughter. She should be able to go to the zoo at least once in her life! Good luck!

Oops, sorry about the italic text. I only meant to put it in for one word. This is what I get for typing it in and not using the code at almost 2 in the morning.

oh, I have not been to the zoo in ages! my youngest has never been to the zoo - she will be 6 years old next week and by golly I think I will see if my husband is up to taking her to the zoo for her birthday - it is quite a trip more than 3 hours one way - and with the price of gas I am not sure what he will say... here is hoping.

When I lived in Singapore, many years ago, thwere was a shop up the road from our house. There was a big, old tree outside the shop and chained to the tree and living in it's fork was a monkey. If you got close he would suddenly swing out at you (scaring the pants off you if you were unaware). He was quite unfriendly, viscious even (wouldn't you be, living in those conditions?)and even though I would stand and talk softly to him he would always glare malevolently at me.
It has always been a wish of mine to get to hold and cuddle with a chimpanzee. I love orangutans too.

my uncle used to own a chimpanzee.
i'm not sure how he got it,this was a long time ago.
wouldn't recommend it.it threw him around like a play toy,and learned somehow to light matches without opposable thumbs.
i did scritch it's head once, but was afraid it would bite me.

they are such dolls as babies - but ohhhh when they grow up!
There was an old Dean Jones movie that was fun - an american bachelor inherited an olive grove in france - the farm is going under so he receives the help of some chimps and later orphans...
well, I am not good at recalling plots...

I remember the first time she asked the question and my mouth dropped open. I have touched a monkey and enjoy seeing them.

where were you that you touched a monkey?
When we lived in Panama our neighbors had these cute very teensy tiny monkeys - and they would let them wander - they often wandered over to our carport (duplex) and would jump on our shoulder.
other than that I have touched/held sloths

I have touched a monkey 2 times in my life actually. A neighbor of ours in Texas had a monkey for a pet and my older sons (10 & 12 at the time) and I were invited over to see the monkey - he was very cute and fun and of course the boys wanted one badly but I did notice an unpleasent smell in the house which I had heard in the past comes with monkeys.
The other time was in a zoo - the zoo keepers brought out several animals for visitors to pet, at the same zoo a 15 foot snake was brought out for the same purpose.

aren't they just the cutest?
