When I first heard of Sliders I thought it was somebody doing some exercise sliding. Imagine my surprise to find Sliders are small hamburgers perfect when you want a small hamburger. I found a Rachael Ray Recipe for Turkey Sliders that is good. Its one way of eating a good main course, as its leaner meat. Have you tried Sliders?

Never tried one. Never even heard of them, as a matter of fact, but I don't watch Rachel Ray. Are they just small burgers? On small buns?

I first learned of them on another cooking show, but just figured another high priced food not for me. They were on Top Chef and looked easy to make. I started hunting for a recipe. One of my friends suggested I eat ground turkey as its lower in fat and calories. They are ground turkey, bread crumbs, 1 egg, sage and salt. Rachael uses cheese, but I removed it. I use regular size buns or bread. Thanks for the reply.

I have never had a slider. Or if I have, I didn't know it. I first heard of sliders a couple seasons ago on Top Chef. So when I saw sliders in your discussion, I thought it would be about the little hamburgers, or that older sci-fi show Sliders. I've never seen that show, and I'd rather try a slider burger than watch the show anyway.

I think its just the right size for a one person meal. I'm trying to cut down on eating so much meat, so think the smaller amount is perfect. I sure hope others know the show Sliders isn't one of my interests. I love to cook and am always looking for great meals for me. Thanks for the reply.

I think that is a great idea, not only to eat less meat, but to expand the variety of meals we know how to make. Plus, it sounds budget friendly.

Hi Fishmomma, I thought exactly like you did. Sliders was some kind of exercise ice skaters do. I love Rachael Ray. She always has the simplest of meals, believe you me I need simple, and it's usually really tasty. I haven't tried Sliders yet, but I will. Thanks for the heads up.

With us, a "Slider" is what we call an icecream sandwich- a slice of block icecream between 2 wafer biscuits! mmmmmmm...vanilla....

Ice cream one of the foods I'm trying not to eat. These sound great! Thanks for the reply.

If sliders are small hamburgers then I must have had sliders years ago at White Castle! I think there just maybe a few White Castles left around the country too. I wonder if sliders are a way of making a hamburger somehow chic and expensive lol. I just heard about these recently actually around here and had to investigate what this "slider" was. Applebees had these small burgers on the menu too but I don't remember if they were called sliders. Health-wise, a small hamburger is probably better for you, unless that slider comes with fries?

My Applebee's have mini bacon cheeseburgers, which look like a lot of calories. The local grocery stores have LA Sliders, which are 4 little burgers for $3.50. I think that is expensive! It makes each sandwich almost $1.00. It certainly would make me eat less to stay within my food budget. I avoid fries and cheese, as they are high in fat and calories. The only way I'm eating a Slider is to make it myself, so I can reduce the fat. I went to the Applebee's Site and it looks fattening. Thanks for the reply.

I believe that the term "sliders" originated with White Castle burgers. They sell those tiny burgers. They got the name sliders because they were so greasy that they just slid right down your throat( and out the other end).

Your correct Sliders originated with White Castle. I have never eaten at White Castle. That sounds like a food I would avoid there. it sounds grim. Thanks for the reply.

Sliders are what we call White Castle burgers in our region. I call them by that name because they slide in and they slide right on out lol. I eat them from time to time, but they aren't my preference. You have to eat too many of them to get full. If I do go to White Castle, I would rather have Chicken Rings instead lol. I am not sure what part of the nation you live in Fish, if you are down south, they have a different restaurant that serves sliders called Crystals. The only difference is their burgers come with mustard, while White Castle's doesn't put any condiments on for you.

I'm located in Southern California. Most of my California friends refuse to eat poorly. Our Sliders are low fat with ground turkey or very lean meat. I am the worst eater among them and 2008 I have been changing my ways. It hasn't been easy giving up my junk food habit. I haven't had ice cream in a long time sure missing it today. Thanks for the reply.
