What is your answering machine message?
Do you identify yourself in any way? by name, by phone number? by voice?
I used to have so much fun with answering machine messages - one of my favorites was saying
Hello? pause, Hello? pause... hmmmm, I don't know if you can hear me or not, so please leave a message with the machine...
or something to that effect.
Now I just have the automated response option that came with the phone, really generic but I think that is the best way to go anymore.

LOL Those messages sound like a lot of fun and I wonder how many people ended up shouting down the phone thinking you were there! I don't do my own messages anymore either on my house answerphone or my mobile voicemail, I leave the pre recorded message in it that comes on the phone! xxx

I do indentify ourselves and our phone number. I usually change the greeting depending what is going on in the world. LOL I need to change it haven't done it in a while.
I personally don't like the robotic canned greetings.

I used to put silly and annoying messages on our phone...lol I can't be bothered now I just play the one that came with the machine. It says no one is able to take your call, please leave a message after the beep. Short and swseet. We don't use the phone much as we all have our own cell phones...and my cell phone just says "You've reached Mari, please leave a message". I do like hearing some of the funny ones sometimes. I just don't bother with mine...lol
Blessed Be, Mari

My husband set up our machine message and it goes something like this. "Hi, this is Matthew, Rachel and Madison's place. Please leave a message and we will get back to you as soon as we can."
My cousin's use to have funny messages which I can't remember off hand.

i just use the default.
when my dad was alive,he used to have the longest, most rambling message and my friends would
tell me "my god,get your dad to change that,it goes on forever".
the automated is nice and clear,so i know they can understand it.

every now and again when I call mom the answering machine will pick up, and she has kept my father's recorded message on it. It chokes me up every time, but I am so glad it is there.
Once I called her and told her I would be calling back, to not pick up the phone - I just needed to hear Daddy. He had such a comforting tone.

I have just left the man's voice that says I am not at home. It's not necessary for anyone to know I live alone and that I am a woman! But the best I have heard is Marion Ross's....she is an aquaintance of mine and I had to call her back. Both her and her partner Paul Michael say something funny like he says..marion are you home and then she gets on and says something about him. I haven't heard it in a while but it was soooo funny!

I used to have one years ago like:
"Help! I've been thrown into a snow drift by an elf. I'll get back to you when I thaw."
Roses are red
Violets are blue
You recieve a call back
In a day or two.
I used to be so creative. Those were the days...

Ours now is the one that came with the machine - I couldn't even tell you what it says or even if it's male or female voice...
I don't like my own voice so have never put a personalized message on our machine - when son #2 went in the Air Force he got the machine one time and was 'surprised' to hear his voice on my machine - it was the same message he had recorded 2 or 3 years before. Of course I told him I left it so when I missed him I could just play that and hear his voice. He laughed and said yea right Mom I know you just don't know how to put a new one on :( He was kinda right at the time.

LOL, I like that hello pause thing modestah! Too funny!
On my cell phone I use my voice and mention the phone number. It goes something like "Hi, you have reached 123-4567, please leave a message after the beep". However the answering machine on my home phone is the automated one that came with the phone.
When I was younger and my mom got our first answering machine, my sister put something like "Hi, you have reached the _____ residence..." all sweet like. Then she finished it by yelling "now what the hell do you want?!?" LOL My mom and I busted up laughing the first few times we heard it!

I used to have a lot of fun with the answering machine messages too. Now that I've been job hunting, I switched the machine to the generic greeting. I'm not sure how "funny" a prospective employer would think my messages are? Would be interesting to find out, but not at the expense of a job interview haha.

I usually identify myself, but don't go into any great detail.
Wanna call me and hear it? No? Ok, here's what is says:
Hi, you've reached Marie Anne. I'm not available to take your call right now, but please leave a message and I'll get back to you as quickly as I can.
Thanks, and God Bless ...

I just have an automated message on my machine, I don't think that there is the option to record your own. In a way this is better as we run a business from the home so the message is relevant for both personal and business calls.

Hi. Modestah. My answering machine is set up to identify myself and my phone number too. It has my own voice. I set my voice mail up like this because I want everyone to realize that this is my telephone number and that they are calling me and not anyone else. In another month or two, I may change it to the standard greeting that is automated.

I use to leave a funny message on my machine for people to hear, but the last time I tried resetting my message, I was having problems with it. So finally I just left it at "It's Amber, leave a message." I'm quite content with that, although I'd like to leave a few choice words for the telemarketers that always end up calling. Whatever happened to the do not call list?!

Oh, we just got a new phone since we had to go with a land line. It has a built in answering machine defaulted to the generic voice. So, we have "our butler" take the message...lol.
Our phone is pretty neat, though, we can alter the voice on it including what's on the message, so we might get creative with it someday.
