Pasta is pretty heavy. So what dessrt would you serve after? Cake? Ice Cream? Sobet?

Where I grew up sorbet is another word for sherbert and it is a desert.

The words sorbet and sherbert are not interchangeable, they are two different things. A sorbet is an icy concoction made from fruit and fruit juices. Sorbet is properly served between courses of a fine dinner to cleanse the palate. Sherbert or more correctly sherbet was originally a Persian cold drink of shaved ice and fruit nectars often mixed with milk from sheep or goats. Sherbet is now served as a dessert in a more solid frozen state similar to ice cream.

I would serve something light. Spaghetti has and heavy and garlicy flavor that might not mix with a lot of things. I would stay away from fruit flavors. What about a chocolate or vanilla mousse? Maybe something minty?

If I served a heavy meal to my family I would want to serve them a light dessert also. you could serve them straberry shrtcake or funnel cake. Those are low in calories. you could also serve them some yogurt or some sherbet ice cream. Those would also be light on the tummy.

A light tangy sherbert or maybe a zesty lemon ice. Both would be light and a grand finish to a heavy meal!

I don't normally serve desert with dinner. We will sometimes eat a small treat later in the evening though. I would say something light if I was going to serve it right after dinner.

I vote for the chocolate mousse mentioned above! Although if you wait for a short time, personally I don't think spaghetti fills you up for a long time with all the carbs. Then I would love coffee with some cannoli - so good.

I second the lemon cheesecake and notwithstanding that many people prefer their sorbet before the entree, I agree with you that is is an excellent dessert and if it wasn't already served earlier as a palate cleanser or whatever, I would certainly consider serving it after and then having the lemon cheesecake a bit later. Gotta have that mascarpone cake though! The one Sam's Club sells "seasonally" is so good! Sometimes we just enjoy a nice glass of Italian Blood Orange soda after pasta and then have a bit of dessert at bedtime instead of with the meal.

I really would have to stand up in favor of the Sorbet? Itallian Ice seems to work very well with an Itallian Pasta dinner to my mind. I forget what the brand is in the store that I used to buy.

I would think about taking some whipped cream, and folding in some chocolate milk mix, and a little instant coffee. It's like a really light cafe-mocha mousse, and also doesn't cost that much to make. Here are the approximate amounts of each if you want to try it (just add more or less for your tastes). For every two cups of whipped cream, add one or two teaspoons of powdered chocolate milk mix, and about half a teaspoon of instant coffee crystals. You could also replace the chocolate and instant coffee in this with one, two or three teaspoons of any pre-sweetened fruit drink mix (orange seems to work pretty well for this). Again, it's not very expensive to make. Either way, have it with a cup of regular coffee (or an espresso), and you're all set.
