Excerising is very good for you, Today I got on the treadmill and as of April 1.st. I will be Excerising, Walking. I will even get in the pool. Are you excerising right now? I mean like everyday or 3 days a week? this is my goal. I want to lose some weight and am going to cut down on eating, just eat smaller portions. Walking is very good for you. Who wants to join me in this, Just stay intouch and let each other know how we are doing with it? I think it will be a good Idea. Ok, anyone interested?

Hi Marcie, Good for you. You can start walking and you can even do a few standing exercises to get to your goal faster. Walking is good but a lot of trainers that I have read say too much walking is not required to lose weight. The key is intensity. Don't keep walking at a slow pace. For eg... you can walk for 2 minutes at a speed of atleast 3, then increase the speed to 6(according to your capacity) for 1 mins, then back to 3 or 3.5 for 3 mins and then increase again for 1 min. Repeat that set 4 times. That way you will lose a lot of weight fast plus it would be real cardio. And then, drink lots of water too!! I don't have a lot of time to walk but I try out high intensity exercises for just 5 mins everyday and it really keeps me fit and going. Happy exercising!!

Thanks that is good information, I will try that. So you are saying the faster you walk the better. I was on the Tradmill for 20 mins, after about 17 mins, I made it go faster.

Yes the faster you walk, the better. Plus it has to be of varying intensity.. Not the same speed for a long time. In the end you should be huffing and puffing out.. that is real cardio.

I started walking a couple of days ago. I walk about a quarter of a mile, but get so bored with it unless I have someone with me. I have lost about 7 lbs since Easter. I really need to. I have got a goal of 15 more pounds before summer.

I just wanted to say congratulations on taking the first step and getting on the treadmill! You won't be sorry! I started working out the day after Easter, exactly one week ago today. Since then I have lost SEVEN pounds!! :) I worked out every day, except for Sunday and I participated in Weight Watchers by keeping track of my points. People have already noticed a difference and I've only been going at this for a week. I only weigh myself once a week, on Fridays, and this time I'm actually looking forward to what the scale reads. Good luck to everyone who participates in this. I just want you to know that your efforts will definitely pay off!!

Hi Marcia, I think this is great that you are getting into the whole excercise thing. You will feel alot better.I sure wish I could join you, but with my back in the shape it is, I can not even walk half-way around the block and that is with a cane. And the treadmill is deafently out, I had to sell mine. The only excercise I can get is swimming, water excercise is good for me and my back, the water takes the weight off my back.So I can not wait for warmer weather. Enjoy all the excercise while you still have your good health!!You never know what you have until you have lost it. Good luck, God Bless..

Good for you. My mother and my best fiend both have treadmills. I don't hae the patience to excercise the way you and they do. I teased my friend once that the only thing I ever did on his treadmill was to trip oer it one night when I had a few too many drinks.

Unfortunately, I'm unable to exercise very much at all at the moment, owing to my injured knee. However, I always did walk a lot and will be getting back to it as soon as I can, when the weather is better. It's too wet at the moment to do much at all outside. I am about to start dieting though... first I have to buy new scales as my others are old, and not accurate. they get to a certain point and stick. I feel if I lose weight, my knee won't have so much weight to bear and I'll be able to walk much better. Thank you for your support though, Marcie, and good luck with your weight loss. Brightest Blessings.

This sounds like a good idea. I need motivation when it comes to exercising as I get bored very quickly and tend to give up. Our house is very small. I shipped over my pilates machine when I first got here and things were going great. I was losing weight and I started to look good. Now, the only place that I could set it up, has been taken over for my hubby's office as he now works from home. I can't even use my glider in the garage as his work equipment is taking up the room that I needed. So, at the moment, I am doing my yoga in different rooms of the house, according to the space that I need. I am slowly getting back to walking our husky over a mile ( I had foot surgery in January). I do use the ab-roller in the hallway though. It would help if hubby were to mention that he is seeing any results though. I tend to get frustrated and give up. But, in saying that, the pooch still needs his walks, so that is something. I shall drag out the ab-roller now and get busy!

Well get out and walk your dog, that is good excerise, and you and your Dog will love it, enjoy the scenery. walk him 2 times a day or thre, for about 20 mins, I et you will see results. Have a good one!
1 Apr 08
Before my surgery, I was walking Kai 6 miles for each walk. I am slowly getting back to that level. Huskies get bored so easy so the longer the walk the better. We prefer going off into the woods. It's good for the two of us.

That is great to hear Marcie. I have a treadmill too and no time and energy to use it. I also have an exercise bike that I wish I had time to use. I need to take time to exercise. We won't be able to get into our pool until arounf May or June when we fill it the rest of the way back up and let the water warn up. I need to cut down on eating also. I need to set aside time out of my day and get these things done. I am interested Marcie but I don't know how good I will do. I seem to constantly feed my nerves.

Deal. You are on. Hope it is not an April Fool's joke :p I got onto the treadmill 2 weeks ago and I stopped. In fact, I walk and jog during weekends. However, it's the treadmill that can kill me. I do not enjoy it.

What???? Why would it kill you, it seems healthy enough for me, but I guess you have your reasons. Everyone should check with the Doctor, when doing excerise anyway.

Oh.. kill is an exaggeration. On the treadmill, it's tough keeping a constant pace at my usual speed. Yet I refuse to adjust the speed. On ground, I can control the pace.

You are right exercise is very good for you, I do exercise everyday, but probably not enough. I walk everywhere I go, I do a 20 minute dance session and I do lots of sit ups and leg raises. I also walk up and down my stairs a few times, which is really hard as our steps are really steep ha ha. I do not need to lose weight but I really need to tone up!!

Boy I wish I could join you in this new adventure. I used to love walking on the treadmill and going to the gym. However, right now I have a complete tear of the ACL in my left knee and am possibly facing surgery which will put me out of commission for a while. You are right, walking is very good for you! Keep up the exercise and you will feel better in no time.

Hi marciascott I just got back in the habit a couple of days ago of doing exercises. I had got out of the habit because of my Mom having real bad health issues. But I started back again after much talking to myself to start again. The nice thing is I have the use of a fitness room right across the street and it doesn't cost me anything. The fitness room has everything I need to get going again. So I will join with you and start the exercise program.

Yes, I am exercising I have my dumbbells, a robe and "the bean", I will walk when the weather breaks, but I jump rope inside until then. I use to go to the gym on a daily basis but my schedule doesn't permit so I do what I can at home. Currently, looking into purchasing an ellipitical machine, they are great for a total body workout. I would like to join you it is better when you have support and encourage when working out.

i go along with the pool as the water will take the weigh off of your joints as will be less evasive to your legs and feet..but the treadmil may cause a problem later..as i used to do this and i was overweight (and still am) but i had a painful foot problem and had it takenen care of and felt wonderful..but then I would go on a treadmill at work and I have one in my basement..a very good one..but after awhile my foot hurt and I could hardly walk..what happened was I fractured my toes right next to where i got operated on..excessive wear and tear on some joints will wear these joints out sooner then later..and it will be most painful...i swim and do water walking but I try not to put too much weight on my feet as I lost 25 pounds in three monts..but I have to lose another 35 pounds to get down to my goal weight...the diet portion sounds good...but you should be going to a group like weight watchers and having a buddy system or you will get bored with eating like this and go back to your old eating plan.. the reason that 95% of the people regain the weight they lose in less then a year is because they do not stay focused on thier plan of action..diet and exercise...only 5 % of the people can keep the weight off for a year..and less then that keep it off for a two year period...it good to set a realistic goal and don't weigh yourself every day as soon you will get discouraged in when you reach a plateau..if you reach a plateay you should change your eating pattern and vary your exercise program as your body will get used to the exercise and resist losing weight...i go to the gym at leat five times a week and when the weather changes will be riding my bike and walking but not on concrete..but grass as its less inpact of my feet...joints and feet become tender if you don't protect them with good shoes and don't try to lose the weight too fast..one pound a week would still be over 50 pounds a year...that would be fantastic..good luck..i have a bad back so i have to put up with some discomfort and also trouble with feet but no pain no gain?

Yeah. Treadmill is a very good choice for walking/running exercise. I am very good at certain controls on the treadmill I do walk on. But during exercise I need lots of extra water. I also should take a short breather before going back to exercise. So the faster you are active, the more fast the blood circulation is. Your heart rate begins to go up. It goes up during heavy lifting.
