Frightening 3rd Graders...

I just read a most disturbing news story. A group of nine third grade students in Georgia plotted to attack their teacher. Each child had an assignment. One was to bring a knife, one was supposed to bring something to cover the windows, one was supposed to bring electrical tape and several other items to clean up afterwards.
What kind of children are being raised in this country? According to the authorities, the parents are cooperating but what concerns me is that where did these kids that young come up with such an idea?
From what the article said, they were angry with the teacher for scolding a student who was standing on a chair a few days earlier. She was probably trying to protect the child from getting hurt and instead of appreciating what she was doing, they plotted to hurt and possibly kill her.
Something that really bothers me is that the school didn't expel the children who were involved. Some of the other parents raised some good points. What if one of those children got angry with a kid on the playground and used the broken knife to stab them?
Those children need some strong discipline on their back sides and have TV removed from their little lives for about a year or so until they understand that this is not appropriate behavior. It's just really scary that children this young would think that this is the way to handle their anger. The only way they could get these ideas is through TV, the rap garbage music out there and the internet.
What if they had been successful in hurting or even killing this teacher? I feel for the poor teacher. Can you imagine how she must feel right now?
If it hadn't been for one student who told a teacher about the plot, who knows what that news item would be today.
Have any of you heard about this and what are your thoughts?

I saw that on the news today. That was so disturbing. We are talking about 9 year olds here. What is this world coming to? Parents really need to pay more attention to their kids.

I wholeheartedly agree but I also know that with the economy the way it is, in many households, both parents have to work if there are two parents. We definitely need some changes to stop this type of behavior.

I had not heard this story yet. I don't know what kids are thinking anymore it is not safe to be a teacher anymore. We just had a female teacher put in the hospital by one of ther students here becasue she tried to break up a fight and one of the students punched her in the back of the head. Parents don't seem to be teaching their children respet anymore. I also think alot of kids are getting to many ideas off of tv. I am glad that one of the students told and that students parents should be very proud.

I'm glad that one of the students told as well. And, as I said in response to the person's post above yours, nothing will change until people start teaching their children right from wrong again and the only way to do that is to include God in their lives. Unfortunately, most of the parents these days were raised without values so they don't know how to teach values to their children.

Just goes to show you whimsy that no doubt that the parents of such kids like that aren't monitoring their children and what they are watching...there is so much violence in the media..gee, even PG-13 movies can have a lot of violence in them---I mean you're so right...the way they were plotting this against their teacher sounds right out of a movie script

It's just so scary for teachers to be in this sort of position. I mean, I could halfway see a junior high school or high school or college student thinking of something like this but third graders. I never would have imagined that.
I think back to when I was in third grade and the type of things I thought about and hurting a teacher would never have entered my mind. I often thought of Superman coming in through the window and flying me out of the classroom but never would I have thought to harm my teacher.
It's sad that children these days are exposed to such horrible things that this would be their way of dealing with the situation.
Glad to hear from you, Pye...talk to you later...

Its horrible. One wouldnot consider such young children to have these terrible thoughts. From what i heard it is not spontaneous too. This seems to be carefully planned. I dont want to be funny but this appears to be the kids version of organised crime. This due to the negetive influence of TV. The kids nowadays see a lot of violence that they think that such things are normal.
