How on earth do you people do it? I've tryed the patches, tried cutting down, tried the gum... Some people I know have been able to quit cold turkey.. So have I but after about a week I give in and buy another pack.. Smoking is costing me about 40 dollars a week and I sure could use the money else where!Does anyone out there have any ideas or suggestions for me?! Desperate to quit smoking!! *as i puff back another one*

You really have to just harnes that strength that is in us all. You have to be consistent and stay busy to keep your mind off wondering back to it and just keep telling yourself it is just a craving. I know it is hard but you can do if you believe enough in yourself.

If you believe that you can do it then it is definitely possible. As you mentioned correctly, you can use that part of money (spent for smoke) elsewhere to start regular investment which will give better returns in long term. If you acn quit smoking , you will also save in your doctor/medicine bill which is not tangible right now. First thing is to list down the benefits of quitting smoking and paste it in front of your desk or mirror which will motivate you to quit smoking. Well i use to smoke all i really did was just didn't go and buy more smokes. If my craving got really bad i'd just give my walt to my best friend. After awhile the withdrawl goes away and you don't need to smoke anymore. Hope this helps.

Be motivate. If you really want to stop smoking, just take it slow, and put a goal. The withdrawal syndrome of smoking is not easy but if you will take it little by little, you will see the result. Why don't you eat a candy or lollipop instead of smoking,it will help you a lot, just be patience.

I have not managed to completely give up smoking yet but have used a method which, for me, reduced my habit from 2 packs a day to 2 a week. It is still a work in progress. Just slowly make different places no smoking zones for you. You might start with banning smoking in your car this week. Next week you may stop smoking at home. When you are in a no smoking zone you do not seem to get the urge to light up. Slowly increase your "no smoking zones" until you have none left. You will be surprised at how easy this method is. (well so far anyway)

You need to buy a book called "Allen Carr's Easy Way to Stop Smoking". Have a look on Amazon. I was a 40+ a day smoker from 1978 to 1996. When I read this book I began to understand why I smoked and what I could do to stop. Scales fell away from my eyes and I knew I would never smoke again from that moment. Here I am 12 years later and I know that I will never smoke again, I'm glad not to have to do it anymore, never get tempted by others smoking and quite like the smell even. It's such a relief. I carried some chewing gum around for the first week, as you need to replace the instinctive gestures with something else positive. I never even finished the pack! I just knew that the nightmare was finished. I had some money, smelled nice, tasted food again. As an example from the book, consider this: when you stop smoking, you feel that you're missing out, that you are depriving yourself of something better etc. Well, you never thought that during all those years before you started, did you? Smoking is a big psychological hoax, and our brains just can't see it. When you stop, like you explain above, you are a smoker who has temporarily stopped. When you do like me, you are an EX smoker. Carr is an ex-smoker and knows how hard people find stopping.
