Left Over

Philippines

I ate my dinner at a friend's house. When we finished, there were some food left and I was shocked that she just emptied by throwing out everything in the trash bin. I cant help but to voice out my question of why she throwed those food out, and she just simply answered me that she dont eat left over which most of the people in DK too. I came from the Philippines and been taught by my parents not to throw food that still can be eaten or not spoiled yet. The food at home goes to heat over and over again. How about you, how do you manage your left over? Does your food goes directly to the trash bin? Or do you keep them refrigerated and keep them warm for the next day? Or do you make another recipe out from the left over?

I would have been shocked, too. But to tell you the truth, I have seen my own Mother do it. She never did that when I was growing up. I just don't get it. I save leftovers for lunch. When I was still working, I usually took them for my lunch. Now I still save them for lunch at home. Or if it's a lot, we usually have it for supper. I can't stand to waste anything.

I try never to throw food out unless it's inedible. I can't stand it when people do that. In my opinion, she should have offered the left overs to you to take home. Or, she should have waited until you left before she threw them out. People who throw good food out shouldn't complain if they don't have enough money to buy more food. There are a lot of hungry people in the world who don't have any.

Hi desertdarlene. Its quite true and I grow up in a Three World Country where there are people living in the street and look for food in the trashes. Oh such a pity sight! Thats why my father was really strict when it comes to saving food. Thanks for responding..

I always eat the leftovers, lots of time the same way and sometimes I change the recipe a bit but I never throw out anything unless it is bad, I even feed my cats with it too if I have to.

I can understand you. When we were little, we were also taught not to waste the food. As there are still many people in the world who are starving. I know some people live very well, but it doesn't mean that it's OK to waste the food. If they can't eat so much, then just cook less. It is a bad habit to waste the food. I don't mind eating the left over. In fact I even pack the left over when I can't finish the dishes in the restaurant. I don't feel ashamed to it at all. I love China

Hi youless.. You're right in there my friend, some live a wealthy life but that doesnt give them a reason to throw food. Wouldnt it be nice instead of throwing it, they should just give away to people living in the street searching for food over a heap of garbage. Thanks the response.

I save the leftovers when we have them for either lunches the next day or supper for the next night. Sometimes I combine it with other things to make something else and it turns out great. If there is an enormous amount left over I will freeze some of it for a later date, that way it doesn't spoil sitting in the fridge to long. I too have a few friends who do the same thing and think that they should learn to save instead of wasting. Especially with the food prices rising more and more.

I agree with you. People should think how much they could save by not throwing leftovers. Making a new meal out of leftovers is what my mom always do. And I should say, the taste is even better.

My parens save left overs. I don't understand why people would throw it away. It's still perfectly good food, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. Sometimes left over food is the best food.

I was raised to be thrifty and always save the left over of next meal. It's a good virtue. Besides, we should be grateful to have surplus of food. There are millions of people in the world are still starving. I will feel guilty to throw away the left over. Usually I will keep the food in the fridge and heat it up before another meal. But right now I staying alone, away from my home town. I seldom cook and usually have my meal at the food stall, hawker center or restaurants. So I won't the problem of saving the left over because the ration is just enough for 1 person and I will always finish it all.

Actually I stick in a bowl with a lid and Hubby usually has it the next day for lunch. I don't throw food out unless it's gone bad or neither of us will eat it. It seems pretty wasteful to just thow out perfectly good food. ~~AT PEACE WITHIN~~ **STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS**
