How often do you feed your cat?

My two cats get fed twice a day, morning and night. They get dry biscuits and canned food. I like to feed them the dry biscuits that are good for their teeth, as cats and dogs quite frequently get gum disease and plaque build-up. So how often does your cat get fed and what do you feed him/her?

We have an animal sanctuary and specialize in hand-taming feral cats. Our cats get fed twice a day on a RAW diet. I grind complete chicken backs from the processor, alternating with whole chicken necks. They get canned Mackeral twice a week, occasionally replaced with sardines (excellent for luring cautious ferals). I give raw eggs (without the shells) once or twice a week. We have water dispensers so that they always have plenty of fresh water, whether they are part of our indoors-only group, or still in the process of being tamed. Once a feral has been hand-tamed, they are altered and transferred to indoors-only. We have protected screened porches for our indoor-only furkids, so they get sunshine and fresh breezes. Thanks to the RAW diet (RAW meat and 50% bones) our cats have white healthy teeth, with no gum disease. They also have thick, glossy fur and no "Hershey squirts". Since RAW-fed animals digest 90% of the food they consume, there is little waste or excrement. and, as a BONUS, their urine and feces is virtually odorless. Oh, and the egg shells go to the dogs, who LUV 'EM!

Wow I liked your post for a few reasons. I think it's great that you hand-tame ferals-that's amazing! That must take a lot of patience and commitment. Instead of trapping and euthanasing the feral cats it's refreshing to see them being tamed and rehomed. Good on you. Also I was fascinated with your raw diet. It sounds really healthy. And odourless cat urine is definitely a positive as the smell of cat pee is definitely one that lingers in your nostrils long after you whiff it!

I have no cats, but I have a little dog. He eats very little food every day.So it is just not a very difficult duty for us to feed him.Sometimes he only has one meal in a day.We feed him with corn powder and chicken liver. He doesn't like to eat dry biscuits but he likes to eat a kind of cake.We must chew the cake for him because his teeth are not so perfect for chewing food.

My cats get fed whenever they want. That is, there is plenty of dry food available & I give them tinned food whenever they want it, which is at least once each day. Neither cat are overweight & they know how to ask me for food if the dry food has run out. The tinned food brand is whiskas & the dry food brand is friskies (the dental one) Thew dogs get fed twice each day, dry food in the morning & tinned food at night.

When we had our cat, it was four times a day and then gradually it went to once a day. We had a special kind of dry cat food, our cat liked, and i did not like to get the canned cat food because I was afraid of it going bad even kept in the fridge with those plastic covers. We would sometimes give him, some canned tuna or salmon mixed with the food, and he really loved that. He never got gum disease so I did not have to worry.

Moomin gets fed twice a day. In the morning he has dry cat biscuits and a drink of water, in the evening he has tuna or sometimes a little bit of smoked turkey or ham, and I usually give him a handful of biscuits if his bowl is empty. However, I know that Moomin is a scrounger and no doubt manages to find snacks throughout the day.

Our cat is a right madam and thoroughly spoilt too, she gets her daily biscuits and meat plus she gets titbits, she will pester for food as well but she's not fat! She even eats weird things like crisps and cheese! We feed her in the lounge that is where her food and water bowls are, she always goes down for a midnight snack and will start pawing mum in bed if her plate is empty at all hours! Told you she was a right madam!

My husband and I feed our cats atleast twice a day, but more often since the ex-wife dropped off the dog for us to take care of. The damn dog eats the cats food, and eats the stuff the ats leave in the literbox. We woudln't have to feed the cats as often, if we didn't have a dog in here eating us all of their food.

I feed my cats twice a day, although they seem to think they should get fed more often. My babies get food from HealthPetNet which is formulated by a vet and I know is completely safe from recalls because they use no chemicals and it's made in the U.S.A. It's also priced comparable to the national brands. Annie

as often as I notice their bowl is empty. the dog has been sharing their food, so as soon as the dog food is gone I think I will just keep with the cat food, it has a lot less protein which is good as our dog is not active enough for all the protein you find in dog foods.

My cats feed themselves. I have the children check when they come home from school to make sure they have food and fresh water as well as a clean litter box. Then before they go to bed, they check again. I've been lucky that so far neither cat has had a weight problem. My dog has always eaten in much the same manner as he is given dry food normally. Every once in a while, as a treat, I will give him soft food, but that doesn't usually last long enough to worry about it. He scarfs that down really quick!

When I had a lot of cats it was feeding time twice a day. Now that I have one, I feed him a large bowl once a day of dry and he rarely finishes it. On top of that I give him canned a couple of times a week. I am sure my son feeds him other stuff as I am looking a egg yolk on the cat's face right now...

Well we have one bowl of dry food that we keep filled and they can eat from when ever they want. At night we mix up a bowl of dry food and wet dog food for the dog, the cats and dog eat out of both bowls. The dry food is cat food which the dog prefers due to her having a very narrow mouth, so many of the dog food kibbles are big and she can't eat them. So there is food available for them all day.

I usually fill my cats dish in the morning and let him eat whenever he wants toeat. He's not overweight or anything like that so the vet said it was alright for me to do his feeding that way. He gets dry food because he doesn't seem to like the canned food and I have tried several different kinds. I do give him those moist little Friskies Fish treats though and he loves those.

Due to my very hectic schedule, I just leave dry cat food and water out for them all the time. You would think they would be over weight cats by doing it this way,but neither of them are.

I leave Meow Mix Hairball Control formula in a bowl, available anytime Cleo gets hungry. On occasion, I give her Temptations, which she knows as "treat-treats." She gets those once or twice a day in small amounts. She throws up canned food, so I just quit giving it to her.

We had to let Miss Kitty go last November::sobs:: - but I remember I would feed her a bowl of food whenever she ran out, which was about every 3 days. I know you might be wondering how it lasted that long. Well, I think it is due to the food we gave her. The very best one of Miss Kitty's was Purina Chicken n Rice dry food. To all cat owners: ALWAYS BE SURE THE NUMBER ONE INGREDIENT IS A MEAT PRODUCT, NOT CORN OR GRAINS! This is a little more expensive, but buy it in the big bag and you'll have it a long time (for one cat, of course). I can almost promise that your cats will be happier and healthier!! And chances are, the food will actually last longer (because it's actually filling), making it a better bargain in the end. You don't have to 'switch' foods for the cat, either - as many will claim. They will eat garbage from the general stores if that's all you give them. So, find a good one that your cat likes (you'll be able to tell) and stick with it! I very highly recommend Purina Chicken n Rice, though. Again, and Please - meat products first

Hi coffeeshot That kitty pic is cute... I have alot of cats so i have to have food out allday..plus some neighbors cats come and join in..we have fire ants here so i have to keep the food on a bench or the ants get into it and they aren't nice to the kitties. All I serve them is dry food since there are so many.
