A while ago, I installed a new all in one included browser, but that did not work, so uninstalled it and when I did, it also messed up some of my downloads. I have reinstalled them except now I cannot record any of my songs by microphone or headphone (need some Real tek for that ) and I cannot install Open Office because the Java exe is missing. Even when I downloaded Java from the Sun sight, and then tried to uninstall all the Java programs that Window update upgraded, nothing works. I do not want to reformat my computer, it is a Compac Presario witn Pentium 4, Xp, and if I do, I can only use the Xp once more without buying a new one and my computer is not good enough for the Vista I want. It will take basic and the next level, but I want the one that does it all.
So how do I find Java Exe so that it works with Open Office?

What exactly is that all in one program that you installed? It sounded like you have overwritten your OS to me. Can you still boot to your XP, if so take angelvoyagera's advise. If not then take nova1945's system restore. The mic/headset thing is more of a missing sound card driver. Else backup your data, your hardware drivers, program installers, it would be a lot easier to do format and reinstall your XP.

I found another sound freeware that will work. But I am gradually putting my data files on my flashdrive and when I do that will look for a better computer.

I will try that. It is a hassle to format the hard drive, and I do think I overwrite the OS. I have no idea, except it is something to do with the Seamonkey Browser. When they said do you want to delete everything, I did not think it meant all the programs on the computer, I thought it meant the files and dlls that Seamonkey installed.

A system restore might help you here. If it doesn't, you should try uninstalling java and then reinstalling it. If you've already downloaded Java from the Sun sight, perhaps try to check for updates and maybe that could correct it. It also seems like your sound card or the software for recording/voice is damaged and you'll have to find the software for that.
You can also try finding your driver disc that came with your computer (if it has it), or perhaps a recovery/maintenance disc. A disc like this should have the preexisting software and drivers that came with your computer when you first bought it. Now if you have this, you can uninstall the java or the messed up copies and then replace them with the one thats on the driver/recovery disc.
So maybe try
-Uninstall Java
-Use driver or recovery disc
-Install Java from that disc
-Try OpenOffice and your other programs after that

I have the recovery discs, but I willhave to back up all my files. I do a lot of writing, and I have my novel on here as well as those recipes. It depends on how much room and if the Cds now work.

And supposedly several types of java can work with openoffice, so that could help you out.
Mika VM, NanoVM, SableVM are other java tools and there are plenty more around.

I have had this happen to me a few times before also. I had no clue how in the world I lost the java or how to fix it either. Have you visited the actual Java website? They have different upgrades and downloads there. You may want to contact your computer manufaturer also so they can walk you through the correct steps.

Probably the best way to do it is to do a system restore before you installed java. Then, go direclty to the Java website, download and install the latest java files and I assume it should work. Let us know if that works...if not you could try to boot in safe mode, uninstall java, do a defragmentation of your hard drive, try to install java in safe mode and see if it works then :)

Hi suspenseful.
It is the Java exe from Java Run Time Environment right?
I think the latest JRE installer from java.sun.com would have served it well. Hope it works for you.
