Do you ever get depressed when you figure up bills

Do you dread figuring up your bills each month as far as how much you owe out because you know you will be depressed aftwards? I never look forward to figuring up my bills, because I know I am going to be depressed when I get done. I just figured them up for this month and cringe at how much we owe out. Especially since I am not back at work yet and my husband is inbetween jobs. I miss the days when our bills equalled less than what we made. Do any of you feel the same way when you figure your monthly bills up? Any suggestions on how not to get depressed over it?

If it were not so sad I would be laughing right now. We seem to make just enough to get by but not enough for anything else. I pay all the bills and I get really depressed paying them. I try to scrimp and save but we live one week at a time. My husband works contract so the company does not take out taxes so that scares me and I buy as little as possible. When we moved here my husband was making more than he is now but he had to take a paycut which ticked me off. He is a plumber and has to have a license, yearly continuind ed classes and liability ins. None of the others have to have that I feel because he has extras to pay for and has to be licensed he should get paid more but the boss says since he does a lot of the same work he should get paid the same. Plus when we moved he we decided that since at the time he was making better money I could finally quit working. Now that I have not worked for over seven years , need to find a job because we dont have any money left over after we pay the bills. If we have an emergency we are sunk. So yes I get depressed. It is not easy to keep a happy face but what else can we do? I know it could be worse. Some people have no home or kids who need serious help. I know how you feel, just stay positive. Nothing lasts forever, I hope.

I do try to stay positive and keep hoping that things will get better. I can understand why you are upset. Your husband is a plumber and working for someone else? Have you tried talking to him about going into business for himself since he has the liscence and insurance? That would help alot, I think.

Thanks for your thoughts. He was in business for himself where we used to live. The cost of doing business is very expensive and especially when people dont pay their bills on time. People in the little town where we used to live had the idea that charges for doing plumbing should be cheap and did not want to pay. They did not realize that his charges were within the average for the area. At this point he really doesn't feel like doing service work anymore. After doing service which included going under houses or up in attics he would rather do what he is doing now which is commercial and he usually has someone else to help with the labor. On the other hand if we won the lottery, he would quit in a heartbeat! LOL!

I figure up bills because IO have to budget. Honestly, I dont get depressed figuring it out, because I always set up an allowance in every bills taht would help me in our monthly paying. The one that really frustrates me is that when some members of the family is not doing their part to save for the consumption of everything. Most of the time, my husband and I quarrel in taht matter. It is really hard when the bills that we have to pay is larger than the money that we know we have to pay up all the bills. And these days, here in my country... prices of everything seems to go up faster than we can ever imagine. And the saddest part is taht our income stays the same... :(

Prices are going up. That is one of the things that is hurting us. Gas is over $3 a gallon now and is expected to get up to $4 a gallon by summer. I wish our income would go up when the prices go up.

Yes, you are on the dot and absolutely right, nothing could be more irritating than paying bills, as and when the come. Here in Delhi water bill is not very pinchings, as the electricity bill is. Electricity is quite expensive here in Delhi. In summers when AC runs, the bill of electricity runs into 3000-4000 Rupees, where as the water bill for two months comes out to Rs.100/- only. Then House tax bill, which comes in a year. Regular monthly telephone bills (including landline and mobile) which also make a hole in our pocket. But what to do, for availing certain services, we will have to shell out our hard earned money. We cannot be without water or electricty or for that matter telepone....LOL! Have a great day!

Yes,there is no need to care of it.It's no use for us except make us get depressed. We shouldn't too care of the money that has been cost. The only thing we should think is how to earn the more money so that we can continue cost it.

True and there are times when I rack my brains on how to make more money. Some times I just can't think of anything.

I also am depressed when it comes to bills. I don't see a way to avoid it other than tell yourself that it is a way of life. Everyone has bills. I try to keep them to a minium and tell myself I am at least doing that to make it a little better. It helps some. Don't keep the light on when your not in the room. Don't let the water run when you brush your teeth. I know it sounds stupid, but it all adds up:)

I am constantly turning lights off and making sure everyone else does too and we don't run the water while brushing our teeth. And no, that doesn't sound stupid, because it does help. I just have to figure out a way to pay some things off so that we can have extra and I won't be so depressed. Thanks for the input!

I am more frustrated than depressed in dealing with my bills, because many times I would wish not for them to go away (because we simply can't) but for them to at least be toned down. There are many times, I would admit, when because of thinking so much about how much I earn, the fact that there are outstanding debts that I need to settle truly makes me feel frustrated about financial stability, and yes, sometimes even myself. Well I would suggest that you make things happen for yourself. I would suggest that you take initiative to trim down the expenses - because that's what I have been doing the past months - so that when they get reflected the succeding months on your bills, it would not feel as painful as having to see your bills breakeven with your income, or worse, take the better of your income all together. I would moreover encourage you to convince yourself that YOU ARE BIGGER THAN YOUR BILLS. And you can do something to conquer it. I think, having a positive attitude to confront it would be one way to get over those depressing moments which I am sure, represents dark parts of your otherwise happy life.

I would love to tone down my bills and get rid of unneccessary things. Unfortunately, we don't have those. Our bills consist of house payment, insurance, two vehichle payments, lights (which are riduculously high for some reason), phone, a loan, and satelite. Satelite is the only thing that isn't a must have, but it is the only real entertainment for my kids and I don't want to take that away from them. Hopefully things will even back out soon. As I may be able to return to work soon. Thank you for your input!

i thank myself for being good with money. if i get paid every pay check, i always want to pay all my bills at once because i know that paying it on time will reward me. i want to pay my bills on time because i don't want to forget and pay the late fee. if i had just the money to pay my credit card at once, i would do it even if it meant that i couldn't buy the things that i want for one paycheck period.

I like paying my bills on time as well. Unfortunately I am not always able to do this. When I was single I had no problems because I had complete control over the money and could spend it as I saw fit. I'm not single anymore and my bills are also more than they use to be. But paying bills on time is a great thing and when I am able to do so, it gets done.

I know of persons who turn their brakers off when leaving home for work or otherwise. It was said that even leaving the lights on the tv on draws current. Ironing daily will put the current up also, so it might be better to iron a five day supply of clothes, if you have clothes that reqire ironing. Hope that little bit helps!

My partner is on a very low wage and I am unemployed so our bills are a constant source of depression for us. We have to scrimp and save hard these days, just to get by, and I know that while I try my best, it is very hard going. I do get very depressed about the bills, especially as it seems that everything is going up in price these days

Yep I got a good way to not be depressed when figuring up your bills have more money. I hate the first of the month, we live on a fixed income and there is nothing left after the bills, makes for one long month when you have to sit at home all month. Now with the raising cost of gasoline and the way food is going up, some of us have no chance it seems. A person told me I need to get rid of the internet, cable tv and my dog and then I would have more money. It would really be a sad world then. The internet is my one thing that keeps me occupied during the months when there is no gasoline to go any where else.I have figured out I don't need as high as a cell phone bill that I got and will down size it. But having more to do with is the only way I know of not getting depressed.

With the price fo gas going up every day and groceries, we will need a lot more money. It is rough on people on a fixed income, hopefully we will all win the lottery and be set for life. Good luck to you, and remember you are not alone at the first of the month.

Since my husband does the bill paying, I don't know all that is owed, but I do keep track of certain bills and yes, it can be overbearing..Sometimes I do sulk and wonder how these are going to get paid.. Then I start reading the scriptures and find comfort and start praying and giving it over to G♥d.. This happened recently with some problems making a car payment, but that is a long story, but it turned out in our favor..

No I just get stressed and when I do, I try to just look at what I do have in my life, instead of what I don't have. So many people look to material things for happiness but in reality it's the people in our lives and the little things that matter the most...

i always thank God that so far i and my hubby still have a job... so even though our expenses are quite large, we still manage to pay every bills on time so far and we don't owe the bills anything... but we are starting to feel the pressure now with the interest rate rise in our mortgage and the increase of the fuel and food prices... it is really hard for us who are living from paychecks to paychecks and hardly have any money left after paying everything... but we can only pray and keep our faith in God and we believe that He is our shelter and refuge...

Yes I get really depressed figuring out bills. I do it twice monthly because that's how we decided to get paid through the military. the first of the month is the worst because that is when a lot of the bills are due. I especially hate having to write out the check for my husbands truck payment. I sometimes get physically ill seeing over $500 a month go to a vehicle. But, the vehicle comes in good use when I have to help my parents move or I want to pick up somethinglarge or having the room to travel in. Today I paid some bills and I am so sad now....

I generally figure up how much I have to have to pay my bills for the entire month once. I hate it too because I know that on most occassions there are bills that I can't pay fully or that go unpaid. My husband's truck payment is almost $500 a month as well, so I know how you feel.

Hi lovespecialangel Who doesn't? I'm sure this discussion will go along way LOL. I'm like you hating to do that but then when all my bills are paid, its like a relief off my mind and i treat myself to something..whether its a new book or lunch. I try to always think positive cause i know its not going to help me by stressing over an unpaid bill and if the phone rings..then don't answer it..the bill collectors will call again.LOL

I have a solution for bill collectors calling. I have caller ID and don't answer. I know that is wrong, but what can I do if I don't have any money to send? They don't want to hear anything except there is a check on the way or let me pay over the phone.
