to smaller breeds? Or do you like the smaller breeds better? No preference as long as it is a dog? All the dogs I have ever had have been 40 lbs or larger. having been bitten by smaller breed, I like a dog to be larger.

I'm a big dog person. If they don't break 90 lbs their just not respectable. If I wanted something small & fuzzy I'd get a cat.

As a matter of fact, I like the dog we have. Her size, her sleekness, her energy, her love of her family. I think it is more the nature of the dog that is important -- less the specific breed or size. That said, it seems to me that certain sizes or breeds might have a certain attraction. For instance, small dogs are burglar alarms. Big dogs can kill an intruder. Small dogs are happy lap and petting dogs (also used to get girls in the park, I hear.) Some people might prefer a small dog because they are afraid of a big dog. Some might prefer a big dog because small ones are so skittish. So, playing the odds as best I can. I like medium sized dogs. Big enough to avoid a Napoleon complex but small enough to know they aren't alpha dog (hopefully.)

i personally prefer bigger dogs than smaller ones. my dream dog is st.bernard but i love great danes too. i have small dog all my life (20-30 lbs.) so it will be nice to have bigger one next time. i am really looking forward to that day. i cant wait to watch them grow and just have fun with them. i think the choices depends on the likes and personality of the dog and the owner. anyway, if i can have them both i will be more happy to have 'em haha! takecare!

I like smaller breed dogs, they eat less and they aren't too big to handle, like giving them a bath or something. We have one Jack Russell, he only weighs about 22 lbs. very fine boned. We have 4 german hunting terriers, they are 24 to 28 lbs. not big at all. We have this couple that are friends of ours and they have a male and female Bullmastiffs, and those dogs are so huge. I think the female weighs about 125 lbs, and the male weighs 145 lbs. I'm not kidding those dogs are big, and you have to watch out, if you start playing with them, they will and can knock you down and hurt you, they like to get real playful. I myself will stick to my little Jack russell.

I just love all dogs but I have varied from a doberman pinscher (of the warlock type much larger than norm) to my present 3 chihuahuas. My choice at the moment is due to my living circumstances not because of size preference

I have had dobermans and now I have labs. I prefer a bigger dog. My neighbor had a min-pin and in October the poor thing was shivering from the cold, hello, why bring a dog like this to NY. I was bitten by a Rottweiler, but personally, smaller dogs are more likely to bite then bigger dogs..you know... 10 pounds of sh1t in a 5 pound bad

I much prefer a large dog. We have a vizsla who weighs 65 pounds and a shepherd mix puppy who will probably be just as big. I have found that most small dogs have complex's and are very easy to snap at other dogs. I also hate that high pitched barking, it drives me crazy! I like the big ones too because they play fetch and like to wrestle around. I just think the big ones are more goofy and fun to have around.

I just asked a very similar question a few weeks ago...lol. I prefer larger dogs- great danes, st bernards, newfoundlands, etc. My husband and daughter want a smaller dog (we have a golden retriever) so we are looking for a smaller dog. *sigh* I do like that they can get up in your lap and you can carry them around and such but I do not like that they are often 'yippy'. They also make me nervous...I always expect little dogs to snap at me.

I prefer larger dogs, I just don't like the smaller dogs and how they 'yap' all the time. They have to make out that they are big by barking (well yapping really) and it drives me mad. We have two dogs opposite us who are small sausage type things that constantly yap all day whenever someone walks passed and as we are near a big road, this means that they yap all day. If we could we would take on a dog but we don't have our own garden - it is communal but we are seriously thinking of getting a stray puppy in the next 6 months or so when we have settled more into our new home :)

I can't keep a big dog. Because my house is small for a big dog can live. Now I have three dogs. One is small dog, one is normal dog and one is tall dog. I like small dog.

I prefer to have smaller ones because the bigger ones are too big to keep in my house. I would love to have a watch dog some day though but my yard isn't big enough either. We only live on a 1/4 acre and my hime takes up most of the property, along with the swimming pool and attached garage. I love all dogs though the same.

I am very much attracted to larger dogs.... always have been. however at the moment I only have a smaller breed dog, a bichon. though, while a bichon is considered a lap dog - they are not a yippy or snippy dog. I really dislike yippiness in a dog. small dogs tend to be nervous and yappy and I also fear stepping on them.

Since a dog is usually kept for protection and companionship, I prefer larger dogs. Smaller dogs would look like cats. :) So I usually prefer larger dogs. A big protective, furry creature who will take care of me and be with me always. :) Cheers.

Even though I like all dogs, I prefer a larger dog. Not real big though. We have a border collie and she is just the right size. She thinks she is a lap dog sometimes. She is about 40 lbs.

All of the dogs I have ever had have been in the 20-40 pound range. I guess that would be considered medium. I don't like them really big, but I don't like them really small either. Most of the dogs I have ever had have been beagles.
