Depends on the genre u see. ... If its R n B or hip hop.. its usually for the beats and all.. but if its alter rock, classical etc I listen to it for the inner meaning of the song. for example.. I really love the album Let Love In by Goo Goo Dolls cos the songs have some meaning and they relate to me.. in some way or the other. The same case with Nickelback, Linkin Park et al.

you said it depends on the genre u see.
I said I can understand that and see where your coming from in meaning how you listen to certain things for example Hip Hop for the beat and the goo goo dolls for how it relates to you. Do you understand my comment now?

Try and listen to the words and see if you view the song the same way. LOL! when I was younger I used to listen for the beat in highschool and sometimes for the lyrics but when I relistened to the ones with the good beat I either like the song more or just didn't care. But I have a tendency to listen to the words more .. Dang chorus.

If the sound of the tune captures my 'ear', then I listen. If the singer's voice pleases my 'ear', I pay attention. If the words make sense and are above average in imagery, then I become totally engaged in the music and the song. It takes a lot to musically capture my imagination, but I have a totally eclectic group of favorites, so I'm never bored, always entertained and learning something.

I love listening to the words in songs. Even though some songs have great beats and rhythyms, if I don't like the lyrics, I just can't bring myself to listen to it.
The lyrics are what makes the song. Some music reaches the heart, and some music, well just doesn't sounds like music.

I definitely know what you mean .. Some songs can have the greatest music but the worst verses and meaning and then that just throws the song completely off.

If I am in the mood for music Bella I do tend to really hear a song. Most of the time though the radio is just like the TV its is just background noise. If I am in one of those moods I still love to put the headphones on. I like to play spades on line and play my cd's. With headphones on I can shut out everything and everyone. Yes even this Nana still has to shut everyone off occasionally.

I do and I do not if you know what I mean, some songs that I hear, I just hear the words and that is what makes me like the song, but I like a lot of dance music and so with that sort of music there is not really many words in it, so it is mainly the music that attracts me to like it. I am into really modern music and so some of it does not actually make sense or have words in that mean anything to me. But I have some songs on cds from over the years that the words in them tell my story if you know what I mean, they are songs that are linked to certain parts of my life and certain things that happened that meant an awful lot at that time with the words that were in them.

I know what you mean I have a bunch of songs like that ..
like this one.
All I Need by Within Temptation.
All I Need
I'm dying to catch my breath
Oh why don't i ever learn
I've lost all my trust though i've surely tried to
Turn it around
Can you still see the heart of me?
All my agony fades away
When you hold me in your embrace
Don't tear me down
For all i need
Make my heart a better place
Give me something I can believe
Don't tear me down
You've opened the door now
Don't let it close
I'm here on the edge again
I wish I could let it go
I know that I'm only one step away
From turning around
Can you still see the heart of me?
All my agony fades away
When you hold me in your embrace
Don't tear me down
For all i need
Make my heart a better place
Give me something I can believe
Don't tear it down
What's left of me
Make my heart a better place
I've tried many times but nothing was real
Make it fade away
Don't break me down
I want to believe that this is for real
Save me from my fear
Don't tear me down
Don't tear me down
For all i need
Make my heart a better place
Don't tear me down
For all i need
Make my heart a better place
Give me something i can believe
Don't tear it down
What's left of me
Make my heart a better place
This speaks volumes to me.

Some songs I like just because of the beat and rhythm (wow, took me forever to get the spelling of that word right!) But most I do know the words to. I don't always know the story behind the song, but I know the words and what they mean to me. I can sing along with many songs I haven't really heard in 20 years. Music is often an emotional experience for me- a good vocalist with passion behind their words can draw me right in and touch my very soul. Even instrumental music, with enough passion in the notes, can do the same thing. So, yes, most of the time I really listen to the song.
