Do you have intolerance of certain detergents? Solvents?

I do. I cannot abide the smell of bleach; it causes my chest to tighten. This was not the case when I was younger. But years of hard living has caused my system to be much more vulnerable than it was and to have intolerances I never had. Strong smells of detergents, solvents and so on cause tightness in the chest and throat, robbing me of sleep. Not serious, just uncomfortable and inconvenient. How about you...do you suffer like this, or are you as robust as anything?

Oh dear. I am sorry to hear that. I don't have a intolerance for cleaners. The smells I can't stand are of food. I don't like Black eyed peas or blueberries or Molasses.

I'm OK with food smells. I've always been sensitive to strong scents, although when I was younger, they used to make my eyes sting. Today, it's more serious, and can suffer mild constriction of the throat and chest from certain scents. It's quite distressing as it can last for several days, although never dangerous.

Well it happens, but I avoid strong scents like the plague. Some time ago, a relative in all kindness tried to repair a hole in a wall with some tile adhesive which must have been old or in the sun for some time. The stuff refused to set, but instead emitted terrible fumes. I was so sick and couldn't breathe well. In the end, my relative, bless them, retiled the entire wall for me. I didn't use to be like this; but early excess seems to have had a damaging effect on my system. I'm fine so long as I look after myself.

Please do. I wonder if there is an ingredient that is in today's cleaners that weren't there before. Maybe that is why you are allergic

I don't think so that I know of. I love the smell of the scented bleach but regular bleach bothers me. There are some household cleaners that I do not like and Pinesol is one of them. It takes my breath away and so does Easy Off oven cleaner.

I can relate to that. But as long as you don't stay breathless, that's fine. I can be bothered for hours by strong scents.
