How can I motivate to exercise? I just cannot get going.

I have a treadmill and an exercise bike and I just do not make the time to use them daily. I work alot of hours and I am wore out by the time that I do have any time to use them. I have to make family time also. How can I make sure to motivate myself to use them daily? I am getting older and more tired as I age. It is hard for me to stay focussed to lose some weight and reach my goal for the summer.

Have you tired exercising first thing in the morning? I am not a morning person so this doesn't work for me unless I can sleep as late as I want, but I know this works for many people. My Dad and my husband exercise right before bed.

Maybe you need portion control? When you buy food what kind of portions do you buy?

I try to exercise between 6-7 in the evenings since I stay on the computer so much late into the night..Ahh, a lovely swim in the pool sounds very nice and inviting. And could burn a few calories, but then there is the time. Okay, maybe instead of wishing you to lose weight I should be wishing your cash flow burdens be lifted so you wouldn't have to work so hard at all those sites and have time for your self. So that in having time for yourself you would be able to take time and maybe lose weight..Whew..God if your looking..please read.

The thing of it is, I work evenings and nights. I get up at 5:00 and see my daughter off for work. Then I pick things up around the house and then sign on to get started working for the day. I know more than get started doing that and four hours later, I have to leave and go pick her up from work. I come back and continue to work again all the way through until 8:00 a.am. Then I sing offline and get more things done around the house, shower, cook and put laundry away. Then I eat and eat and it is time for bed. I am too wore out to exercise. I have to make sure to get to all of my sites beofre midnight also. It just takes alot of my time up. I need to make time for myself though. summer is coming up and I have yard work to do also, plus I need to make time to get in our pool. It never ends LOL.

You need 1 hour for yourself a day, I would take 30 minutes of that and do the treadmill and the other 30 minutes to relax in a bubble bath Good Luck

Yeah. I really need to do that. I need to force myself to do it or it won't be done because I am so focussed on earning money. We have to have it right now too.

The best way to exercise is to do it with a partner. I have tried without success to exercise alone or with my hubby. My hubby goes at it with a lot of spunk, but I can't match him. So, therefore I give up. Finding a partner to do these exercises with will help you to do them more often.

Yeah.. That would be nice to do it with someone else who has motivation. I have to do it by myself and find the time for it. that is the main problem.

Oh, my God. Is it difficult to by bicycle? I like bike, I like to go to work by bicycle. I think it is free and comfortable, time and speed is controlled by myself, completely. I like the feeling.

This is a very old post but I do need to get back into shape so badly. My health conditions have prevented me from doing so along with my work schedule.

I can't either. I just can't find the energy or the time. I have a hard time losing weight. Two years ago it just fell off after my separation from my husband. But now I've gained some back and want to lose it again for the summer. I don't eat that much but continue to gain weight. So I'm with you if someone can help us out with info.

I know what you mean. I do eat and feed my nerves though like crazy anymore. I used to be able to control it better when I was younger but not anymore. I am constantly wanting to eat and never have time to exercise. That is my main problem.

I put my favorite boogy music on somehting that makes me want to get up and dance or move or I have a very stern talk with myself and ask myself do I enjoy being the butt end of all the fat jokes still even after losing 36 pounds I still get them. I was walking with my niece and sister in law today( which is also a good motivator having friends and family over to walk with you. And say come on it is time to walk)And my brother in law was making fat jokes now mind you this is a over 300 lb guy himself. My sister in law said she was going to clothesline him off his 4 wheeler. I just tried to ignore it all not let it sink in so it doesn't bother me so much but if I think and think and let it fester then that when the problems start. So 1.) Get some music and play it something with a beat and makes you want to boogy and groove and then have friends or family over to keep you motivated. Not alot of help I know.. Sorry. But since the 17th of March I lost 36 pounds and the only exercise I have done is walking and I have cut out the junk food totally and the big meals I try to reach for only lowfat or nonfat foods. I try to fill up on low calorie foods and quit drinking the high calories pop and juices and drunk sugarfree drink mixes instead and they have some good ones out. I wish you luck on reaching your goal, I know how hard it is and how long the struggle and battle can rage on and on. So I wish you lots of luck and know that I am in your corner..

Wow. that is great. I just cannot force myself to buy the extra foods that I know I need to have because money is so tight for our family right now. I have to make sure to buy what we all can eat, not just for myself. I would love to just have time to work off what I eat. That would be great in itself. I just have no motivation or self esteem for it no more. I cannot stand gaining more weight though. It is affecting my energy and my health.

One way to motivate yourself is to tell yourself that it will only take 10 to 15 minutes of your time to exercise.

I know what you mean, with me, the mind is willing but the flesh is always weak!! I am the same as you, on the go all day long, and then family and housework etc and the last thing I feel like doing is getting jiggy with the exercise, but what I do to motivate myself is picture myself in summer looking like a blown up blimp and then I stick my favourite tunes on of all time that I know will get me motivated.

We the youngs also like you said.We are very interested to start exercises. But after one or two weeks it will come to a complete stop. For me a good idea to get motivated is to do exercises with other friends or relatives. That will be more enjoyable and we must find time for it.Thanks

Hey I will give you a best idea to slim down drink hot water night before going to bed two glasses of really hot hot water and drink during day time twice or thrice hot hot water it will burn out your extra calories make it a point to drink hot hot hot water at night think you are slimming down go to your exercise bike an do work out for 10minutes. THINK YOURSELF THAT IF YOU DO THAT WORK OUT YOU WILL HAVE GOOD TIME IF NOT THE DAY WILL BE BAD JUST THINK LIKE THAT YOU WILL BE PULLED TO DO IT REGULARLY.

the best way to motivate you to exercise is to run with a partner. if you run slow you loose calories and if you run fast you loose sugar.Anyway look for a partner, this will motivate you and you will feel powerfull to have someone running next to you, ull feel like if you get more energie.for example i run about 2 kilometers alone and get tires, with a partner i runned 5 km and i got as tired as the day i runned 2 km alone, anyway i lost a lot more fat :)

I think you would have to set a certain time everyday for that, maybe the first thing in the morning with you wake up do it and get it over with and then you can do the rest of the day for housework, family and working on the net.

I used my treadmill all the time when it was in the same room as my TV, but now that I've moved and can't fit it in the living room, my exercise has dropped as well. I would say get a friend to exercise with who you know is serious about exercising, preferably someone who already does it regularly. If you can't make that happen... I noticed that you said you would like to spend more time with your family as well, now that it's getting nice outside you might want to try to take walks with your family, it will help you get exercise, get great quality time with your family, and it will also help teach your children the importance of staying active. I just shelled out $70 for Turbo Jams DVDs, they're pretty hard at first, but they have some exercises on there that aren't too bad, your family might also want to participate in them because it's a lot of kind of dancing around and kicking and stuff like that.

Its hard to change our routine and hard to start something we dont usually do! I have experienced that a lot and this time I am also trying to set up my mind that I have to do it! Just mind set then discipline.. Do not start anything else not unless you have spent 15-20 mins walking in your treadmill or biking! then when you get to use to your routine, things will just follow smoothly,,,Just try in once, try again, and never stop trying!

Oh, I know how you feel!!!!!! I am in the same delimma. I have a wonderful exercise machine (I will write about it in a little bit) that I have only used a few times in the last year. I would love to find time to use it every day and my doctor said just bring my heart rate up to 120 beats per minute for 20 minutes per day and it is enough to start losing some weight. He really recommended 30 to 40 minutes but told me a bare minimum of 20 minutes to get started until I get used to exercising. I also found that in the morning BEFORE breakfast is the best time to exercise. But I am not a morning person and by the time the later part of the day has passed, I get to busy to exercise on my machine! Oh how do I get my schedule to work for me to include it? That's what I wonder..... When I do manage to exercise just 20 minutes, I feel more energized! I am almost 40 myself. I would have to really buckle myself down everyday to focus on making myself lose weight. It is hard to do when I am self-employed and some days I am running like a freight train! Maybe there is a way we could keep each other motivated and accountable?

Oh I am right there with you. I had an exercise bike and it sat in my bedroom for 2 years. LOL I think my girls used it more than I did. We want to get a treadmill but I am so afraid that I won't use it. I know my DH will. But the school I worked at was so gung-ho with a program on how many steps that they took each day, so if we get one I am going to get a pedometer also to keep track of the steps.

Definitely id suggest trying to find somebody who you could exercise with, to help motivate and support you when you need it ~ i always exercise harder for longer when my partner trains with me. If you're tired and lack time to exercise, try working out at home, instead of travelling all the way to a Gym. This is what my partner and i do, and as i lack in energy, i find it really helps me to stick some exercise in the day, without it being a big palarva. I've found the best way to exercise is to break up a full-body workout into smaller more manageable workouts, and do them a little more often. Could you find 15-20 minutes at first, most days? This is how i like to exercise ~ Little and often. Hope this helps.. any more advice, just ask away.. xxxx
