As kids, when we went trick or treating every light on the street was on. Now a days, it seems like no one is participating anymore. Is it just here or other places as well?

Maybe more people have kids and are out with them. Some communities have churches or malls that give out candy, so many people in the community may be at those places helping out with the festivities.

Yeah maybe. I know in my neighborhood, we have a lot of elderly people, guess that's why it really surprised me. You're right about the churches and I know here, we have a recreation department that normally has a carnival.

I know alot of people who just take their kids to houses of people they know. They seem to be afraid of local crime or worry about tainted candy.

I just made a post about the same thing. My neighbor hood is pretty safe (I live on an air force base and they had they had security forces patrolling by car and some by foot last night.) Nobody wanted to participate. It started getting late so I just left some candy in a bowl on the step. That was about 10pm. We had our front lawn all decked out and my husband borrowed some stilts from the haunted house on base (he helped build it and helped out with it). He scared so many people last night! He would leave the little kids alone. But he would go after the teenagers and the parents. He had a big black cloak and black pants on. So, you couldn't see the stilts. You wouldn't know if it was a dummy or someone there until you got close up.

I forgot, this was the only pic we got of him. Hope it turns out.

Here too. We only had 15 altogether and they stooped coming around at about 8:30. Sure was different when I was a kid..

Halloween - Halloween
I stayed out tonight to pass out candy. I but we had forty or fifty kids come to our house. But, you know what...a lot of them were to old to be out trick or treating. I bet some were 18 and over. It kind of agervated me to give my candy to them instead of little kids that were in it to have fun.

I know. There really should be a limit. Or these kids that have on normal clothes and just have their face painted. Don't get me wrong, in a case where the parent can't afford a costume, I understand. Yet, you know some of these kids do it because they know they can. That makes me mad.

This was the worse one yet. We went 5 blocks and hit 3 houses. What's up? It is sad that more people don't participate like they used to.

I went out with my son and his friend tonight, the streets were packed. It's still very much alive in these parts.

That's good to hear. Wish it was the same in my neck of the woods. Can we come trick or treating with you next year? :)

I was on my way to a meeting that i had last night, and it seemed that about half of the houses I passed had their lights on...to be honest, I don't think I saw more than about 15-20 people out on the whole 10 min drive to where I was going, and it was through the middle of a residential area...

My kids are out with my husband right now. I'm here answering the door to trick or treaters. I think it depends where you live. We recently moved to a neighborhood with a lot of families. Prior to that we seldom saw people trick or treating.

We've lived in the same neighborhood for years now. I've always taken my daughter to the same place but it seems the last two years, we've not had much luck. I just feel bad for her.

We were very disappointed this year. We have two sons. Our oldest is 17 so he's outgrown the trick or treating. However our 3 year old has just gotten into it. We live in a small neighborhood of about 35 houses. There were 10 houses participating. My husband took our son to the neighborhood across the way that has several hundred houses. He said it was the same way. There would be a few houses with lights on and then a bunch that were dark. I don't know what has happened to one of the best kid holidays!

I know. I have a 9 month old too and I'm worried that once he really gets into Halloween, there won't be any trick or treating at all! Such a shame.

I could understand being wearing of taking your children trick or treating. Yet, I always loved answering the door for the trick or treaters. Just surprises me.

Well, My husband and I stayed home with my 13 mo old and we had MAYBE 6 trick-or-treaters!! Its kind of disappointing but on the other hand we get to eat all the leftover candy! But my town does a thing called Trunk&Treat. A whole bunch of people park in the big parking lot of the church and kids go around to everyones trunk and get candy! You dont have to be a member of the church...its for Everyone and its alot safer!

LOL about the leftover candy. We always buy stuff that we like just for that reason. Trunk & Treat...hmmm. That's a really good idea! I may check into something like that next year. Thanks!

I took my son out this year while my wife and 15 yr. old daughter stayed home to hand out candy. Like you, growing up I remember nearly every light on and many years I remember not going to maybe half of the houses in town (small town of about 300), because the candy bag was already full. This year we walked all over town and maybe had 50-60 homes total handing out candy. My wife said we had less than 30 trick-or-treaters.

That is a shame. Maybe, as mentioned, more people are doing the church events and parties. Yet, when my son is old enough to trick or treat, I'd really like for him to experience that.

I took my kids to the childrens musuem. its so much fun and safer. we had pumpkin icecream, painted pumpkins, played theater and even tricker-treated at the make belive homes they built. it only cost us 8.00 for a family of 4. Nothing will ever be the same again I dont even let my kids play outside w/o me.

I have to agree with that. It isn't nearly as safe as it was when we were kids. I really don't want her to have to give up the fun of trick or treating. Trust me, I try to be as thorough as I can with checking her candy. We know most of the people, but you can't be too safe!

it was ok for me...my son and i walked 10 blocks just a 1 bag full..but when i used to live with my mom...everyone went trick or treating...it was way funner there. well we had more candy 2 cuz i used to dress up..and cuz i look like a teenager..which im 26 by the way....we had more candy.

Yeah I think it is pretty much that way everywhere. People just don't particpate like they use to. We use to would get bags full of candy we would even have to empty out and refill. But now the kids barely get their bags half full.
