Will 64 bit computers dominate the computer world and succeed in making 32bit, 16 bit and 8 bit computing obsolete??? Currently I am contemplating on weather to invest in a 64bit computer for the reason that the 64bit is the wave of the future. Programmers are always making programs that would suit the prevailing hardware. So am I making the right conclusion???

It is not that easy really. as you already know, most of the software fits 32 bit processors perfectly nowadays and it has been a long time since first 64 bit processor was distributed but there are still many problems when it comes to personal usage. If you are planning to use that 64 bit system for a business or another thing like that, it might be very useful because you will need to run some specific softwares only and you will have more performance from the computer. but when it comes to personal usage, I don't think 64 bit is ready for us yet. because if I had a 64 bit system now, I wouldn't be able to play my favourite games or do my school work via using some special software. Personal usage is usually limitless, so you won't feel very good if your computer doesn't run some softwares just because of that problem. but again, for business purposes I think it should be very good.

Obviously 64 bit is the better choice. i have a 64 bit Core 2 Duo processor, but I am using a 32 bit version of Windows at the moment. With a 64 bit system you have the option of installing either, which is a far more versatile choice.

Same with me. I am using a 32/64 bit core duo processor and have a 32 bit windows xp installed on it. It's good that we have an option to upgrade later to 64bit. I do hope that whaen that time comes, our hardware is still capable to run the future 64 bit operating systems... Thank you for the comment.

Hi Al_Bodid, pardon me for saying this but 64 bit is the only way to go. Soon 32bit processors/board/memory would be hard to find and expensive.

Personally I am Using 32bit software at the moment, because I've seen a lot of my friends having problems with drivers and such. I think most of the drivers issues have been resolved for most applications, and I made sure my newest computer was 64bit architecture, as I want to move to vista 64bit in the next year or so. Yes I think 64bit would be way better than 32bit and would have 64bit now except I want to move from XP to vista 64bit, and a specific program I use has some driver issues still. I would suggest 64bit XP, probably less bugs at the moment and since you'll be able to use more than 2gb of ram it would be a lot faster. The industry is moving towards 64bit rapidly from what I've seen and experienced, most of my friends have 64bit.

I've been using 64 bit for three years now. I have a 1.8 GHz AMD 64 but processor on my PC, and it runs faster than a 2.2GHz intel 32 bit. So there you go. That gives you enough info about the speed. Yes, I think that the 64 bit processors will overtake the market and obliviate the older version and also as you mentioned, Software programmers are always looking at making their softwares better and always wish that the End User have a high End Rig. So I recommend you getting a higher end PC, with comtemporary hardware Thanks bourne

Some say that the problem with migrating to 64bit from 32 bit is the scarcity of drivers for your system. So where do we get 64 bit drivers for our computers. Also what is best a 64 bit vista or a 64 bit windows xp?
