What is more important for success:Hardwork or Smartness?

I was recently reading an article in which it was written that hardwork has nothing to do with success. So it's said that hardwork is passe, now the new theory is that of Smart Laziness- where success comes through cleverly avoiding work but still getting the job done. I've seen many successful enterpreneurs who do less and accomplish more, having ample time for their family & other work. I would like to share your opinions on this.

Well, I would agree partially, but not totally. We can never undermine hardworking people who are really hellbent on achieving what they want in life. Have my mom as an example. She is not that smart, in fact, she would do just fair. Compared to her sisters, I think she would just a little above average. To make things worse, she had to quit college once to make way for her elder sisters' studies - who despite being opportuned, never really made it. But all these were mere hurdles for her to finish her studies in the process. She really did work hard despite not being smart or brilliant or something. Now, after 30 years of work, she is retiring and I am sure, she would soon reap the copious fruits of her labor. Well, we never really cannot under-estimate people with a big heart. Life tell us that those who succeed are not the one's who have what it takes but makes little use of it, but the one's who are willing to give it all a try, and risk, and be triumphant in the process. We cannot really measure the success of an individual by the amount of talents he is endowed with, but the amount of diligence and hardwork he compliments with them. That's the secret of success I guess, that we are able to bring into a prolific balance the measure with which we are given, and the measure of industry we pour in our otherwise latent and inactive talents. Well, just thinking. But I'm not saying there is no truth in what you just related. It's just that, certain parts of my life can't seem to figure how being successful, by the meaure of one's purview of oneself, can ever be achieved by giving in to a certain amount of laxity or mediocrity. I think, successful enterpreneurs "who do less and accomplish more, hainv time for their family and other work" are those who can delicately balance the talent they have and the amount of dilegence they give to hone it to fruitful ends. I don't think it's something about some form of permissive laziness on one's part.

Wonderul kk, hats off to your mother who has made so many sacrifices for her sisters and that too for elder ones. I've seen many cases where elders siblings do it for their younger ones. Yes, there are many simple people who put their 100% in whatever they do and there are many cunning people who achieve by wrong means. Basically I am a simple person by heart and I do agree with your statement and my full regards for your mom. Thanx.

Success comes with hard work in a smart manner- Without hard work the ordinary men cannot succeed. We are not referring to enterpreneurs here[people who already have built a base]. Budding enterpreneurs have to work hard and smart --working hard where it really counts [with the proper perspective and focus] is what is needed. People who have already reached a certain stage can afford a little bit of 'Relaxation' but not before they arrive at a particular point.

Hi Kalav!yeah, to make a base for any establishment, hardwork is foremost but of course it has to be balanced with smartness .One has to set goals for which to reach they require both. Thanks for your response.

I think smartness is the most important. The hard work will follow right after that. you have to be a little bit smart to make wise decisions to be able to be a hard worker to get somehwere in life.

As the old saying goes "Work Smarter, Not Harder". I myself haven't been able to be brave enough to invest the money or take the risk. I guess that's really what it takes, risk.

Yeah, one needs to have real guts to take risks and that's not everybody's cup of tea.
