left it on the counter for a year before making a cake with it. I then figured out that with new kitchen stuff, especially if it is something I really wanted, I am nervous about trying it. I am a little more confident with my computer. I have to use it if I want to make any money, but with kitchen stuff, I could use a wire whisk, a wooden spoon, so I do not feel the necessity of mixing the batter in that new fangled mixed I got for Christmas until I have this overcome urge a year after I got it and then you cannot stop me. Now do anyone of you have the same problem that I do, afraid of trying something new because of fear of breaking it and then deciding to try it a year or so later and finding it was not so bad after all and you did not break it?

well it didnt do you any good letting it set there now did it? lol no if I get something new I have to try it right off the best thing to do is not throw away a part like I did I got a bread maker and on the 5th loaf was in fridge and no one was eatting it so I tossed it only to come to find out I forgot to take the little paddle out of the bread.

I got those little paddles in the bread, and I had to remove them. AS for the Kitchen Aid, I could make cakes by hand and even beat egg whites, and I was afraid of breaking it. I had some crumby mixers before and one crumby food processors and I know that often when a gadget has been used by professionals, they sort of dumb it down (make it break easier, a lighter motor) for us civilians. Well a year after I bought it, the KitchenAid mixer worked perfectly and it still does even though they no longer make that model. And the saute pan I got with it is quite good.

That does happen. I really should get a better bread maker. The motor is gone on this one, and it is not like making a few loafs and putting them all in the oven, and then after they cool, putting most of them in the freezer except for the one you are going to use. And all that electricity wasted just for one loaf seems rather high.

yes I am just like that, always worrying that I would not learn how to do it properly. Of course it is only my own insecurity and then I do learn, I might not be the quickest mouse to the cheese but I do learn.

I am always afraid that I would break it and the warranty would not allow it.

I can't say that I have had that fear, but I am one of those people that when they gets something they HAVE to use it. For our wedding my parents bought us one of those mixers. I was sooo happy! I had wanted one for years.

Me? It is not that fear of being able to use it, it is the fear of breaking it. I used to get in trouble when I was a youngster of getting something new and in a few minutes it was all in pieces, or I broke the handle. I must have been one of the most clumsy kids in the neighborhood. I think the saying went around, don't give A- anything she'll break it. It got that I had to ask my parents to put stuff together. I am getting braver now, I used my electric wok the first day I got it and it has not been broken yet. So there's hope for me yet

I suppose part of the reason I do not use something at first is that when I was young I was told so many times if I broke it I paid for it. I also did not like to spoil something. So I did not want to break something before I had enough money to replace it. Of course, I forgot about the warranty, but I guess the warranty also said that if it was damaged by carelessness, the warranty did not work. I sort of forgot how strong they made it.

I'm just the opposite - I can't wait to use the new stuff. I got my kitchen aid after years and years of wanting one and I used it nonstop every day making way too much food and having to freeze it. I settled down after a week or so thank goodness. I'll tell you though, I used to be that way with clothes. I would get an outfit, not necessarily a dressy outfit, and would save it and not wear it for the longest time. Like I would ruin it if I wore it and then wouldn't have it for some time when I needed it. I'm not going to analyze us, but I got over that thing with the clothes.

I only waited one year, but once I started to use it, it was all right. I have not used my cellphone yet and that has been a year, but the reason for that was soon after I bought it I was on myLot and there were these warnings about brain tumors and disintegration from radiation if you put the cell phone to your ear and you have to use bluetooth so you do not have the cellphone to your ear. And guess you gave all these fears, people from a country where almost everyone has cellphones and they just throw them away when they get a new one because the rates are so cheap. With clothes, I sort of gained weight so I had to wear the clothes as soon as I bought them because i would gain weight. Now I am losing, so I have to wear them before they get too loose.

I do not mean checking it out before you buy it. I mean, you get something that is expensive as a birthday or a Christmas present, and you do not want to use it right away because you are afraid of breaking it. Beside with a Kitchen Aid or a Microwave, when you go to the store, they are not going to allow you to take your flour, shortening, eggs, baking powder, milk, and vanilla and make the cake right there in the store, are they?

I do put off using things if I have not got time to learn about them. Part of the problem is also not having a lot of room, or rather, organized room. I am glad that you have gotten acquainted with your Kitchen Aid.It is good fun when we learn how to work them.

I have a son who wants to put things away. We went on holiday and he decided to help Men think that everything gets stored, but we women want the Kitchen Aid, and the necessities to be on the counter so we can use it.

You and I must be from the same mold. My son and his wife bought me my first microwave years ago. I was upset with them because I was terrified of using it. I didn't tell them of my feelings because I didn't want to hurt their feelings, but I thought I was going to have an anxiety attack after they left! I actually couldn't sleep too well that first night. The apartment I was living in was old, I was afraid the electric power would blow because of it. The bells and whistles on the thing made me terrified. I finally overcame this dumb fear and use it without trembling in my boots. I have this crazy fear of alot of things in life, not only new gadgets, I guess I sound silly, but alot of things scare me!!

You should have seen me when I went to the dentists years back and the equipment was frayed. I looked at the cord and thought "am I going to be electrocuted?" Even a small nick in the plastic around the cord or the plug not starting right scares me.
