I have worked on the computer for many years in my job and now I spend hours on places like MyLot. I used to be able to work on the computer without glasses and now if I don't, all the print is blurry. Has using the computer affect your eyesight?

I can attest to that definitely, before I had the perfect 20/20 vision and for 2 and a half years now, I can't read off my screen without my glasses, whats worst it keep on deteriorating every year. We should really take care of our eye specially if we spend a lot of time in front of monitors. It should be properly lit, light at our back, reduce contrast and from time to time look away from our monitors.

Sorry about your eyes. I guess we have to learn to give them a rest once in awhile. You listed some very good tips here, especially about light at our backs. I really appreciate all the good information.

I've heard so many advices regarding this before, If I've only heed to them seriously. Well we learn the hard way, at least now, we could take care of our eyesight a lot more or whats left of it. Thank you surfette for reminding me this.

No.. Ive been using computer for three years now... And theres a very less amount of gap between my sessions on the PC. My vision is still 20/20 and I do not face any headaches or dizziness or anything..Seems like I'm made for this stuff..lol bourne

Well, I cheated a little and looked at your age on your profile. I have been working on computers longer than you are old! LOL I'm glad that you are not having any trouble with your eyes, but you are young. There are some very good suggestions here for keeping your eyes in good shape and I hope that when you are 58, your eyes will still be 20/20!

Thats not cheating..lol.. anyways.. I'm sure I'll never have to worry about having a spoilt eyesight cos career demands that I shouldn't have one. I want to join the IAF [ Indian Air Force] as a pilot so I should have perfect 20/20. Other than that its not like being young prevents such things.. The main reason I haven't got problems is my diet, my other activities, and my procedure of working on the computer.. I never sit in front of the computer for more than an hour.. Even If I do, I make sure that I do not get back in front of it for the next 30 mins.. I got another argument to make. People say that TV and Computers cause a bad effect on the eyes.. I wanna ask some.. Why do nerds have spectacles too?? Cos even reading causes eye problems.. lol.. I make sure that I eat food with prefect amount of proteins and vitamins and what not.. You can still get better I guess.. unless you have a very bad eyesight.. bourne

I find at work my eyes bother me, but not if I am on the PC at home. My vision has been the same for about 10 years now and I live on the PC.

That's really good to hear. The first computer we had at work was one of those old system 36 IBM's that had the bright green screen. That was terribly hard on the eyes. Thanks for responding.

My eyesight hasn't deteriorated much in the eight years I have continuously used computers, my grade is just at -0.25. But I think the glare can be really harmful. So what I did was buy lenses which had anti-glare coating. It helps the eye by preventing eye strain. Also, it is suggested that you blink one in a while to "refresh" and "moisturize" your eyes.

What a good idea about blinking your eye and the anti-glare coating on your glasses. It sure makes a lot of sense. Thanks for your great ideas.
