I suffer from allergies of all sorts but this time of year is very bad for me due to everything blooming. In the last few years my allergies were so bad at this time they not only caused bronchitis that put me in the hospital but a few years ago it caused pneumonia that put me in ICU. Well last year after getting out of hospital I did everything I could to lower my allergies. We got rid of the fruit trees in our yard (which I am allergic to) and we got rid of most of our carpet. Still though when I went to bed my lungs and sinus would fill up. I would wake up all congested and having to do breathing treatments. I started sleeping sitting up which helped that and my back but still whenever I went to bed whether at night or for a nap I'd wake all congested. I tried switching laundry soaps and blankets just in case it was something in that I was allergic to. No dice. I figured it had to be due to the fact that during the night I'd slide down and with being a shallow breather it was just building up too much. Then one day on freecycle someone put up a hospital bed. Well I snatched that up figuring this way I won't slide since I can put the feet up as well and be at a better angel. So we get it home, remove my old bed giving it to my niece who needed new mattresses and set this up. Now that night I go to bed, get it all adjusted and...nothing. I'm not coughing. My lungs weren't filling up and neither were my sinus' I'm thinking ok, it's the angle I'm at. Still I'm not going to complain and after a few days my allergies are tolerable and I'm not having to do breathing treatments. Then I started to wonder. I had seen some commercials on TV about dust mites and such being in mattresses. I decided one day while my niece was at school to take a nap on the old mattresses. Within minutes I was coughing and congested. It was the mattresses. Now, I had only had them a few years but they had been in my grandmother's guestroom for 20 years even though barely used they were old. Well we weren't going to take any chances as soon as we could we got my niece new mattresses. So have you ever been surprised you are allergic to something? Did it come out of the blue?

Your allergies seem really bad especially in comparison to mine. I have hayfever, so I can tell by the season when this is coming along, so can be prepared. I am also allergic to cheap make-up, so I just don't buy it and don't use other peoples make up if it is not a brand. Dust makes me itch like crazy, so when it comes to dusting the house, I get someone else to do it for me.

I know how that goes with makeup. I have problems with some due to the scents in them. I'm allergic to rose, gardenia, and jasmine which unfortunately is what most scents use for a base, at least one of them. I feel for you with the dust. I can have it cause me to sneeze if it's really bad but for the most part it doesn't bother me.

I have only just started to check what they actually put in make-up, because I accidentally gave my boyfriend a face wash with almond milk in when he is allergic to nuts. I didn't think of checking anything other than food until now ... good job his allergy isn't too bad, he just came out in a bit of rash.

I never would have thought of that either with a wash and being allergic to nuts. Thinking about it may facial products have almonds in them. I'm glad his was a minor reaction, I know it could have been far worse.

wow who would have thought that it was the mattresses, I am glad you finally found out what it was and now you are feeling better. I wish I could afford a new mattress myself but I really cannot afford it.

I know it surprised me as well. I can't afford new mattresses either. That's why I got the bed off freecycle. The only reason my sister could get my niece some was due to getting some back pay from Social Security and then Big Lots had a sale of buy the mattress get the box spring for $10. If not for both of those she would have been out of luck.

I hsd allergies really bad at the first part of this year too. I usually do not get allergies that bad and they do not last this long either. I'm not sure what tore me up so bad this year. It took me forever to get rid of it though. I do know that.
