We are finally able to call up pretty emoticons with the latest myLot upgrade. This news in itself is hardly new. When it comes to emoticons, I have been quite guilty too - liberally sprinkling them all over my posts. Do you use the new emoticons? Which is your favorite? Which do you think is most overused? Personally, I like the tongue and laugh ones most because they look the nicest to me. What about you? On a side note, I think many of those available are hardly used by anyone. What do you think? Should we suggest for some of them to be removed and instead replaced by more usable ones? Do share your thoughts! =)

Hello friend, I personally think the 'thumb-up' emoticon is the most overused on myLot. As I have noticed, most of us (including me) are still into the habit of writing 'lol' rather than substituting it with . Then, there are other emoticons, like the , etc which still exist in the form of hand written :( and :) respectively. However, It is hard to type down the thumb-up emoticon; therefore, I guess, it could be the most overused perhaps? As far as removing some of them...hmm..not a bad idea, I think. Some of the expressions on the smiley faces are hard to read. Take for e.g the 'cool' emote, does it really express anything cool. And the 'whistle' emote, who would whistle that way. I cannot, for the life of me, decipher how a shocked face juxtaposed with a waving flag means 'to surrender'. Also the 'cry' emote, it's more a 'squint' than crying face, there is hardly a drop of tear rolling down those eyes. The ones I like the best are rasp, drool, blush, yawn, wink and lol. Besides the emoticons, bolding, italicizing and underlining - another feature I would crave myLot to include is - hyperlinking the text.

You make a good point, Mooch, I think three is enough for a post as well. I must agree that the features of bold, italics and underlines are a great addition to myLot, they come handy in highlighting a word. I wonder why wasn't it included from the day one. Btw, my belated congrats to you, on becoming the top most user.

I think the rasp is my favorite but I don't use it alot because I am afraid others would get the wrong idea about it thinking I am making fun of them or what not. I use the alot more then the others and I don't think I have used the cool one,the ninja or the sleep one. But I have used the others every so often when I remember to use them. I love the emotions I think they are a cool and cute way to add to discussions to help others express themselves but I do think they do need to add a HUG emotions since people are always adding it to the ends of most discussions.

I like the tongue one too. And nah, people won't think you are making fun of them. That rasp is nice, hehe.

Hello, my friend! I have seen this new emoticon feature. It is really great to see myLot developing like that. I don't use to add emoticons to my responses, however I guess I'll start doing so. It is a great way to express better your opinions about a certain subject. The most used emoticon, that I can see in almost all discussions, is the happy one. Yes, this face I just showed. Respectfully, Munhozmib.

I use the smile one the most. I used to just use the colon and parentheses before we were allowed emoticons. I also use the laugh one now that it is available. I like the little ninja but don't have cause to use him usually.

I have used them ALL at some point. I loved the occasion when I rolled my eyes at someone in a discussion when I was trying to defend the user who had initially started the discussion. The same user was following what was being said andsaid mea private message laughing but thanking me for making the point to the person who was slamming him. Without the emoticons it would not have come over so well I havealso you the tears and the yawns. I would love a emoticon to give tosome of the people who do some brilliant responses and it would just seem right to reward them with token rose

I know I use the happy one alot, to replace my old:) My favorite tho is the cool (dude). And I like the thumbup one. And I also really like these, , when I'm baffled or something.. and of course the lol, laughing one and the laughing and tongue one - or in response to a sad news report or something the sad or angry one. - I don't think I've ever used any of the others. But I do wish they had some more choices.. Oh yes, I use this one to mean something is hopeless..

I think is the most used. For the time being I am pleased with what is avaialble. but they could always add ore and leave what's here as well. I always make my signature bold as well. That's the feature I use most as far as the codes go. I personally love the drolling one the most but do not use it a lot. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Well, well, well! I have been away from myLot for a while due to other commitments and look what happens! :) I will probably stick to my standard smiley faces and winking faces I think; with the occasional unhappy face thrown in on the bad days! Love them or hate them we all end up using them! This is a good addition!

Personally, I find inserting emoticons a hazzle. It would be nice if the emoticons could appear automatically if we were to type the codes instead of selecting them from mylot code. The ones that I used more often are and I think emoticons brightens up a discussion or response if it was used appropriately. However, if one uses too many in one discussion or response, it sort of defeats the effect it is supposed to create. I get

When they first came out, I used them a couple of times, but now I just find it easier to type LOL. Whenever I try to apply them to my posts they are always at the very beginning and I have to delete them and put them where I want them in my discussion. Just easier to quickly type LOL.

I just was eligible to start using them as you have to have 200 posts prior to using them... I have been annoyed too with their positioning at the beginning of the post and have not been able yet to figure out how to put them where I want them... as I have not reached the 500 post mark, cutting and pasting is not an option. How do you get the emote to go where you want it without cutting and pasting and what is the use of an emote if it cannot be put where you want it? To answer your question... I have only so far used the thumbs up to indicate approval and the happy face. I don't know what others I will eventually use.

It can, it can! I believe it lands where your mouse cursor is. Even if the position is wrong, just cut-paste the em codes to where you want. To make sure you get it where you really want it, you can do a preview first.

for me, most overused is the following emoticons: :) :( :P :D these four are what i always use.. so i think others must be using them much too. i mean, i have like a smiley face on every post i have in mylot.. of course if i should be smiling and a sad face if the topic or discussion made me really sad.

hi lordwarwizard! i am also guilty of using these emoticons, often i use the maximum number allowed and sometimes i don't notice i have put more than the allowed number so i would be asked to remove one of them. ^__^;; i often use the happy, lol and wink emoticons. my most favorite is the laughing out loud emoticon. the emoticons i rarely use are the angry, yawn, ninja, and sleep emoticons. i wish they'd put an emoticon brandishing a peace sign. just like my avatar.
